hey man, how about red eye tetras and black widow tetras, i have some of them in another tank, they dart up to the surface quick at feeding time. i feel oscar is quite slow for chasing as iv seen red tail sharks chase like mad stressing the fishes.

@tigeroscarfan oscars will 'try' to eat any fish that fits in it's mouth; like my little convict, a tiger barb is way too fast and smart for any oscar to catch

Great tank bro and for the idiots saying tanks stink inside the house that's what carbon is for and as far as mixing oscars with other fish I find if there raised together it's fine I have 3 oscars with 4 fire mouths 2 clown loaches 2 green terrors along with tin foils barbs and even a pacu . Mind you that there in a 240 gal but I've never had any problems and there all really calm just keep them fed and fat and you will have no problems .... And the idiots talking shit about your tank are just

Iv watched 100s of these videos on youtube, and yours is by far one of the best. You inspired me to re-start my fishkeeping hobby from my teens, and now my own 3 teenagers are hooked! i have a 180 gallon fish tank and it is 6 feet long . for some reason yours doesnt seem to be 300 gallons .... somewhere around 200 or 180

@dewillget8 Got to love the aquarium math. And if anyone wishes plenty of 'Aquarium calculators' out there if you google it. I did when I got my 300 because I had to hide it in a sliding door closet :) pull the doors off when the apartment wasn't being inspected.... 96L x 30W x 24H = 299.2 Gallons (round it up) // 2880 Sq. inches surface area // 2561.8 lbs of water that's not counting gravel or decorations.

@nauris705 Real plants decay the water fast. I do not even keep gravel rocks in my aquarium. Reason being I have a dangerous snakehead in my tank & the last thing you want to do is clean the tank frequently

The severums could have eaten the tiger barbs. ive had one for over a year and it has eaten 4 fish so far including a fire eel that would hog the cave in the tank.

Nice tank! It's great to see a setup where fish have an abundance of space. Each fish has its own territory and it looks like those tiger barbs could go weeks without seeing the other end of the tank.

Thanks. It's very tempting to add more fish but I just can't do it. I think they have better personalities with the room to stretch and establish territories. The best is watching Dino the Bicher chase the Acers around. Dino rules the tank!

ian, the Tiger Barbs were used to cycle the tank. I had over 20 of them knowing full well they may get eaten one day. I still have 3 left though and they are 3 bad ass Tiger Barbs! NOBODY messes with them.

Trust me I have. They only need special water parameters if you are importing from their native waters. Today's farm raised fish are so far seperated from their ancestors that they do perfectly fine in treated tap water.

actually even though african cichlids can live in the same water parameters, they are much more comfortable and happy with a high pH and harder water.

but most american cichilds prefer a low to neautral pH(6.5-7.0) with slightly soft water.

so even though you can house them together and they'll be ok. they would be much happier in seperatate tanks.

I bought the tank and stand off of eBay for $2000. The previous owner had it all custom made for around $6000 then sold it to me after having it only 6 months. He said he didn't have time to take care of it. He had it set up as a reef tank. The acrylic is 3/4" versus the standard 1/2" for a 300 to boot.
