Seriously though, Madoka's voice sounds alright at first, but quickly goes downhill. You cannot get the average English voice-actor to do these hyper anime voices without it sounding stupid. People already perceive subs and dubs as so totally different, so make your dub reflect an English "version" (doing so does not make you 4kids).

I love how they make the show sound so cute...it makes you think that maybe The english co signer asked for it to be a more heartwarming series and maybe they did...even though you know that can never happen. XD

Have you watched Puella Magi? In my opinion, its darker and more complex plot makes me think that's what would make it be dubbed over Oreimo, but that's just my opinion.

@BDFalcon2 Don't worry. No whiplash. I've heard that commonly English voice actors record independently and isolated from the other voice actors. I think this definitely removes a sense of realism from the dialogue sections. And this can only hurt the overall performance, imo, since they are probably not as close culturally to the material as a Japanese voice actor might be.

Truth is,Im actually not used to subbed voice's.It's good but they make it sound too"child" restricted when it comes to witch fighting and all those other parts since I watched the entire anime with translation.The voices do not match the characters,opposingly.And as some mentioned,It makes it a poorly dubbed magical show.This does suck.The japanese voices much fit these characters.
My thoughts: Madoka was poorly casted. That voice is NOT a good Madoka, too nasally, where she's supposed to be softer-voiced. IT's going to sound like she's whining the entire dub. DEAR GOD.
Mom and Dad were great.

Wow... it's actually not as bad as I was worried it would be. Not as great as it COULD be... I think when English speakers try to mimic those high-pitched Japanese voices, the acting suffers. It sounds fake and unnatural. Dubs can be most excellent... but directors should remember that part of the purpose of dubbing into English is... well... speaking English naturally. If a voice comes up for a human character that would never be used in normal real life English, then it's better to alter it.
I wonder how many people are going to buy this thinking it's a warm and fresh magical girl animu about the power of love and friendship... I hope those people own a lot of tissues.
Geez, Funimation has done some really nice dubs, but this isn't one of them. The voices don't fit the characters at all, especially Madoka. Kyubey and Madoka's dad sound the best in my option.
@Teenageneko Bang Zoom is a divison of Bandai. They did Eureka Seven, Haruhi, and a few others if I recall. They also funded that AnimeTV mini-show featuring Johnny Yong Bosch.
I came into this expecting an ok dub and plenty of fans bitching over nothing worth bitching over. I came out laughing my ass off. Everyone sounds like they have speech problems and social disorders. Except for Madoka's dad. He's alright.
This is a mixed bag. I like Homura's voice and Madoka's isn't bad. The same can be said for most of the minor characters shown. Mami's VA is good, but I wonder how well it will fit her character. The only voice I do not like is Sayaka's.
In any case, I look forwards to watching this anime in English. Let's hope it turns out well.
I'm hoping that they made the voices annoying on purpose to make it look like a typical poorly-dubbed magical girl show, and then when it gets to the more serious parts they'll hit us with brilliantly nuanced voice acting and emotions done so well that you could really believe they were sobbing. Otherwise, I'm just going to have to say this sucks. Not as bad as it could have been, certainly not as bad as other dubs coughsailormoonandonepiececough, but not as good as I was hoping for.

Ah, I really don't like this dub. Madoka's voice is fine and Homura's, but... I don't know. I feel like majority of the characters were voiced by one voice actor. These voices are good. It always sounds a little odd to hear such high-pitched voices in English rather than Japanese, but it just takes some getting used to; this is a really good dub, guys, they did a great job matching the voices.

This is a mixed bag. I like Homura's voice and Madoka's isn't bad. The same can be said for most of the minor characters shown. Mami's VA is good, but I wonder how well it will fit her character. The only voice I do not like is Sayaka's.
In any case, I look forwards to watching this anime in English. Let's hope it turns out well.

I'm hoping that they made the voices annoying on purpose to make it look like a typical poorly-dubbed magical girl show, and then when it gets to the more serious parts they'll hit us with brilliantly nuanced voice acting and emotions done so well that you could really believe they were sobbing. Otherwise, I'm just going to have to say this sucks. Not as bad as it could have been, certainly not as bad as other dubs coughsailormoonandonepiececough, but not as good as I was hoping for.

BTW, anime fans are forgetful about something: unlike most straight-to-DVD anime, 4kids anime are shown on Saturday morning, a timeslot which is regulated by the government.

@nosshat I think it has more to do with efficiency. Watching something in the language you speak is only more practical. I don't understand why this is so difficult for weeaboos to understand. It's as if you people think that the Japanese should have to watch their own content with Japanese subs and Italian voice actors. Silly weeaboo.

Mami's sounds the most natural for an English-speaking voice, followed by Homura. Dubs always sound better when they sound like real voices you'd hear speaking the language.

Dub companies shouldn't try to emulate japanese tones. It doesn't work and makes everything sound awkward in english. Just speak normally and everything will go better than planned.

Ah, I really don't like this dub. Madoka's voice is fine and Homura's, but... I don't know. I feel like majority of the characters were voiced by one voice actor. And it's sorta off putting because a lot of them sound similar to me. I'm looking forward to the dub though anyways, just to see if the voice actors did a better job than the impression I got. ;w;

im not a weaboo , nor am i nitpicky , and im not going to yell or whine, but i honestley dont think these voices portray the emotions as well as the japanese, and its not because the english sounds different, ive seen some amazing madoka fanmade dubs that i felt had much better voices, but most of them were taken down :/ anyway i feel the characters couldve been cast a little better

These voices are good. It always sounds a little odd to hear such high-pitched voices in English rather than Japanese, but it just takes some getting used to; this is a really good dub, guys, they did a great job matching the voices.
