@Dgbug3 The definition of generator says "mechanical energy to electrical energy". The gravitational potential energy of the water is converted to mech. energy when it squeezes the crystal, the crystal turns that mech. energy into electrical energy. In a hydroelectric dam the grav. pot. energy of the water is converted to mech. energy when it turns the turbine, the generator connected to the turbine turns that mech. energy into electrical energy. So the crystal is the generator.
@Dgbug3 On the other hand, it's common to refer to a diesel generator as a generator, when in fact the generator is just one component within it. So this usage is common. But I understand where you're coming from; don't get me started on the incorrect use of "windmill" :)

@laughingidiot3 I'm not sure. I read somewhere very recently that some of the newer cards have something else inside them - though I can't imagine what. If you're unsure and don't want to chance it, Radio Shack has piezoelectric buzzers that have these same crystals in them. It also wouldn't hurt to ask the people at the card store if they have any that they're throwing out for whatever reason.
Translation: Where did you get the crystal? Did you try the shower? It took me 10 minutes of adjusting in the shower to fnd the right drops. It had to be big and fall from at least a meter. Once it works in the shower then make the machine.
Your video helps show that we are surrounded by energy in many forms. There is no energy shortage. In fact, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by all of the choices of energy to tap into. That really is cool to see rain generating electricity.
I have a few musical gift cards that I have been hoarding and now I know of one hack for them, thanks to you.
I also have on my to-do list to make a piezoelectric from salt crystals. Can't wait to see what you think up next.
I feel the same way about all this energy around us for the taking. I know you've seen my solar cooking videos - free energy from the sun. But rain energy is even more fun! Don't you have rain gutters at your place? You can put all those musical gift cards to work. Be sure and post a video of them in action if you do. And then make it a video response to this one if you want.
Pozdrawiam
@MrSTEPHAN1975 That is a neat idea, using sound where I used water. I think it will be much harder to do. You'll need a very sharp and strong sound wave. Please let me know if it works.

First off this is not a generator.

So you can find any crystal from any of those cards at the store that make sounds/songs?

you need to clean that shower grout bro!

@MTLAccord Hmm... Should I do an experiment or clean the grout? Sadly, all too often the experiment wins. :)

@RimstarOrg sighhh its typing error again it's suppose to be ''but'' not ''it'' hhehehehehehe
