I am quite familiar with old volvos (I've restored a 445 station car a 1957) I've driven 122's and a 142 and a 242 and a 262C, even built an artificial 265) but, beyond the "fake" fiberglass body, what is under the skin that can make "big-horse" (like 1000@???? rpm). Obviously, the Key factor here is to run a "Cummins Truck" sized Turbo, but the question is how soon those forged-aluminum pistons are gonna MELT or EXPLODE or whether the Bearings hold out. looks like about a 30-second-life engine.

@AndreeBartschat no, I think it's a Volvo b230 2,3liter in-line four cylinder engine block. They are unbelievably strong, and with some modifications, it can handle the massive power. I've seen them handle 700hp and more, but the won't last very long with more than 600hp.

@blackdahlia2371 Regarding this discussion about what engine they've used, I'd take a guess for the 2.0 16v DOCH, which seems to be a "reliable machine" (everything is of course relative) even at 1000ish hp. There are a couple of Pro Street (maybe?) cars in Sweden running those engines, and they seem to work very well. Quite an odd thing to hear that 4-can scream amongst the V8 thunder on the tracks :)

I'm not sure that they utilize that engine though, you may aswell be right! Just a thought :)

And the reason it sounds the way it does is because , as you can see in 0:25, there's no exhaust on the car. The turbo outlet vents out of the hood. Combine that with high revs (over 8000), and the fact that it's a 4-cylinder... you get the idea.
