  • Maaan, this dude is stoneeed! Leave that dude alone, man! He don't know what he's talking anymore.

  • SLAPPA DA BASS MAN!

  • this is crap! stop mumbling and speak clearly!!!!!!! also your a dick!

  • why do you think that this video helped somebody to learn slapping?

and YOU are a bass teacher... what the hell!!! in my opinion everyone could find out this what you have shown in maybe 5 minutes of playing some rubbish!

  • since when does anyone slap on the d string

  • Wow, now I can say - I'm professional bass teacher :DDDD

  • Index on 5th fret, pinky on 7th fret... WTF ?!

By the way, your G-string is out of tune.

  • DA BEARZ

  • Guys, guys, calm down. Don't be angry at Expert Village. It's not their fault that every single video they put out happens to be made by the village idiot.

  • lol nice bengals jersey or whoever the fuck they are.

  • Huh, when I slap the bass I literally slap the bass, using my whole hand, and muting the strings I'm not playing with my fretting hand. I forgot how to do the thump and pluck thing. I always thought when everyone else slapped the bass, they did what I did. Or some people just kind of strum it, which doesn't make much sense. They were probably just being an amatuer at pretending to play the bass. Slappa da bass.

  • you look totally baked in every video maybe thats why they are so horrible

  • pangit man ka..la ka angy

  • "Octave...that's the same note but a tone higher..."

Pardon me while I go far away from here and never come back.

  • @AlexCowan2 Hahahahah

  • Go Browns!

  • Thanks for the video dude. If all these other Jackasses would jump off their high horse one might give credit to their criticism. But it's easier to critique then create. what a bunch of fools and tools. Go Cincinnati.!!!

  • Would someone teach this "expert" how to play friggin' bass please?

  • mumble mumble mumble...

    hemlehblehbleh

  • "expert" is really stretching it

  • One of the basic techniques is using an octave*

    WHAT THE FUCK

  • You my nigga G!!!! This and the Flea commercial taught me how to slap!

  • If you wanna go that. Go buy a fricking Slap Bass. Thats what there made for.

  • YOOOUUU'RE GREEAAATTT... LOOOL

  • n00b!

  • wow that was useless

  • @ 0:50 when he asks "if that makes sence" here's what i thought...

'NOTHING YOUR SAYING MAKES SENCE DUDE!!!!'

  • my grammy plays bass better than this fucktard

  • I know all that, I want to know how to slap!

  • I didn't mean to put 12 tones. I meant 12 half-tones. Or 6 whole tones. However you wanna look at it.

  • Actually, an octave is 12 tones up, not 1. For example, if it were 1 tone up then the octave for a D would be an E. We all know thats incorrect. Now, if it were 12 tones up (which it is) then the octave for D would be D, which we all know is correct. I'm 13 and I know more theory than him. What an expert.

  • Instructor: Alright this is how you slap the bass, you take your hand and slap it. Thanks for watching!

    Me:........WF! o_O

  • expertvillageidiots I don't even think this guy owns a bass he's always in a music store ,this must be a joke.

  • expertvillageidiots

  • same note but a tone higher LOLLLLL

im seriously laughing my ass off here

  • just go to Marlow DK for any slapping insrtuction.

  • this guys is a complete joke.

  • this guy sux dick at bass!!

  • why not the ring finger instead of the pinky??????????????/

  • Very good and clear keep going you are being a really good help for me thanks

  • This guy is a spastic, two frets and one string apart? with frets you are talking about steps of counting, without including the first position then they should be the same.... like, wednesday is two days infront of monday, and 4 pm is 3 hours ahead of 1pm. But with strings you are talking about gaps in between, like tuesday and thursday are one day apart..

so you've changed the format for counting, which makes no sense and is confusing to people... keep your counting format the same

  • it shouldnt be slap techiques for beggienrs

more like slap techinces for fucking morons

  • i cant even see what he is doing "epic fail"

  • fuck I cant see a SHIT with that fucking add

  • They're not wrong, they're stupid and show a lack of instruction because surely everyone can see through the subtitles.

  • u suk

  • Anyone can answer....i just have a question on technique because i still can't quite get the tone for the slap....are you suppose to strike into the fret board or downward like a diagonal strum?

  • what's the bass he's using?

  • "same note but a tone higher"? i have a music degree and never knew that. gee, thanks expertvillage!!

  • @alinack69 I know expert village sucks. But not all of us have a music degree, or else we (those with out a degree, kind sir) wouldn't be sitting here trying to learn via a youtube video =/

    juuuuust saying.

  • @Zayashuku do u just want some1 to fight against? as the point of my comment wasn't to belittle anyone without a formal education, or at lest one in music. i think it's abundantly clear that it's not the case at all.

if you really are trying to use youtube as a teacher, as i do the same (yes even with my lord snooty, high and mighty music degree), coming to expert village for anything more than comic value is dangerous. if u would like i can steer u in the right direction.

  • @alinack69 If you have a place better. I'd sure a heck would like to know. And I'm being serious :o

  • this was shit.

  • hahahaaaa.... some that transcription, CLASSIC.

  • WHO DEY!!!!

  • check out my easy slap bass tutorial on my channel uploads, it shows in detail how to slap with your thumb and its the ultimate lesson for beginners.

  • Shit!!!

  • 'an octave is something that is the same note but a tone higher.'

i thought this was EXPERT village?

  • yeah so wrong i agree..

  • ok slapping is impossible my string are either to tight or idk its gay

  • lmao hes gay

  • welcome to expert village, not really lessons but 1 minute of us doin stuff

  • @montuotojo because, they teach horribly!

  • i thought octave should be fingers 1+3

  • @KidLightnin Most of the time fingers 1 and 4 are the most practical for octaves, using 1 and 3 can cause unnecessary tension.

  • @KidLightnin whatever is comfortable

  • @montuotojo

I believe "Expert Village" is run by this one guy who owns a video camera:

He goes to Guitar Center, and then asks random people like "Can you show me how to play the bass?"

  • hey bro thanks i can really play now! nice bass, bro!

  • GO bengals haha

  • LOL. is he so stupid "the same not but a tone higher?". lol he didnt even get the hint from the word OCTave? thats because their is 8 notes in the C scale and when u go up 8 notes you hit the same note... talk about noob village -___-

  • @edgar669966 Settle down.

  • @edgar669966 Only 7 notes in the major scale. You already know this, but I mention in case others people get confused.

  • Este vídeo não fornece informações importantes/úteis!

  • Fail :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

  • dude- could you look and sound any more bored please

  • This guy tries to make you feel retarded, but I can't take serious with his football jersey on.

  • @montuotojo Everyone that watches Expert Village should know this by now. Not one person in my family likes it. Form skateboarding to drumming to taking care of animals to every video on Expert Village, not one person, or comment appreciates the lessons. Check out My Expert Village parody guys!! Thanks.

  • Wow, thanks to youtube, any dumbass in a Carson Palmer jersey can call themselves an expert and thinks they can give "lessons". Great, just great...

    btw, I hate this video

  • eff you google. I knew ad-free youtube was too good to be true. I gon't give a rat's about ufc

  • @RockzoPhD I know and Head and shoulders ads!! ARGH!

  • @montuotojo

I heard they find random people off the street who can do the things needed.

they actually dont have any talent.

  • maybe it should be called amateur village, or so so village or hack village ... I can't think of any others right now ... :P

  • @Pudsy440 lol hack village

  • Thx Bro. I learn something from this vide0 ;)

  • you mean brow ;D

  • I didn't learn shit from your "professional video" jackass thanks ! Try to be a little more "professional" in your instruction ! Are you trying to "score chicks" you Beavis looking fool !

  • @steelcityaryan maybe you didn't learn shit because you are a fucking moron.

  • i totally agree

  • dud your good im lokking for bass lessons but they're all too expensive. can you help me out?

  • dude and you are aPROFESSIONAL BASS INSTRUCTOR ........YIKES

  • My respect for the teacher, all those lessons will be really useful for my first steps on bass

  • me too!!!!!

  • nice video, bad jersey.

  • i have that black guitar on the left of him

  • @OuttLaw95

    I totally agree!

  • this is one dumb fuck he is fretting A and G and slapping D.

  • yeah, he says an octave is 1 string and 2 frets a part, what a moron

  • no, he's just using a technique, that prepares the player for doublethumping. That means, that the thumb has to stop on the next string below the string you slapped on. That is why it looks, as if he slapped the D.

  • Its not a tone higher ... Its an octave higher

  • "the same note but a tone higher"

so for example you have the note "c" a tone higher is the "d" so it's not the same note.. fuck tards

  • "The octaves are always the best notes to use for that."

    That's simply wrong

  • That's not wrong. Slapping would be ... no, not boring, it's not the right word for that, just "not IT(if you know what I mean)"- without octaves. It just works well if you fill your slaps with them.

  • Geez expertvillage is fucked.

  • I think this video is PLUCKED!

  • i didnt learn crap from this.

  • LEAVE ME ALONE!NO ONE LIKES TONY THE TIGER NO MORE.ITS NOT GREEEEEATlol

  • This video should be more specific. Bass guitar is vastly different from standard guitar. A longer tutorial would also help so you could explain it in more depth.

  • youtube should have a slow motion button

  • hahaah

  • holy shit dont tell me i have to wait for ads to watch a fucking videos jesus christ

  • Bottom Line: If you're gonna *represent* out here as *an expert*, then u owe it to your students do your homework. I think u shud study and go through your own lesson yourself b4 you post it for others.

Also, I didn't *slag you*, as you said. in ur reply. But have a good, long look at your feedback comments, Teach. You have some compliments and praise - but you mostly have criticisms - and most of them are legit.

Playing bass well and knowing how to teach it r 2 different things.

  • It's 12 semitones...not tones... higher...BLAH BLAH BLAH"

Technically, you finally got it right.: An octave IS 12 semitones higher or lower than the next root tone aboove or below.

But you knew EXACTLY what I meant...and so did other seasoned players out here.

Also, I'd bet my next paycheck that your original statement - which is TOTALLY INCORRECT - confused some beginners who watched your lesson.

  • if you don't know the difference between a bass guitar and an electric guitar, you might be a redneck. Also this guy is like a zombie in his video.

  • thanks

  • thanks.....

  • or if it has 7 thick strings, its electric bass

  • lol your knowledge is something AWESOME!!!

  • @pspfan68 if your guitar has 4 thick strings, its an electric bass. if it has 6 small strings, its electric guitar.

  • i have an electric but my tuner registers it as bass my guitar looks the same as the guy in the video's guitar is my guitar electric or bass?

  • how much stirngs does it have.

  • i have 7 strings

  • For anyone thats actually trying to learn from this, you should use your third finger to fret the octave if your using your first to fret the root. If you don't you will wind up with a hugely bad habit that will be very hard for you to break in the future.

  • I get distracted by the sound of the string I slap hitting the fretboard... am I slapping too hard?

  • No, thats sort of what's supposed to happen. You might try raising your action if it annoys you that much.

  • what kind of bass do you have? I had a cheap Squier P bass and had a similar problem till I bought a Yamaha Jazz/P combo.

  • Ummm...pardon me...but I'm sure I heard you say, "An octave is something that is the same note, but a tone higher."

In fact...ummm... an octave is the same note TWELVE (12) tones higher.

Ummm, yeah...we're gonna need you to ummm...teach the students correctly, uhhh...or else they won't be able to play the bass...EVER! LOL

  • 12 SEMI tones higher. If your gonna slag someone else off get it right first please

  • slappeh teh bass slappeh teh bass

  • are you a leprechaun? lol I Love You Man FTW xD

    cool vid too. :D

  • slappa de byass!!! Wait, thats wrong, that was like borat! :p

  • octaves ore always best to use?? noooot!

  • Arggreed good but not always (and i did the waneys world (NOT!!!) part at the end BEST MOIVE EVER (not sarcasm)

  • when i try to play bass my string hits the pickup. WTF

  • adjust the pickups then. it was the same thing on a guitar a bought and my first base-guitar was allmost touching. check the sides of the pickups if there is a screw on them if not check the inside of the bass

  • try slapping further up the neck, it dosent make a massive thumping noise

  • it suppose to do dat

  • an octave is 12 half steps higher which is why the 12 frets = an octave

  • good job johnny!

  • yeh but also you can octave a G from the 3rd fret on the E string to the G string which is an octave

  • are you the dude from limp bizkit?

  • filthy georgeous by the scissor sisters lol

  • doh novice*

  • it sounds like something out of mario

  • the riff sounds like a scissor sisters' song

  • Checkout the Hayseed Dixie cover of scissor sisters :-D

Heard a good quote today "To all those people at expert village, what's novie village like?" :-)

  • what song is that riff from?

  • It's called an octave because there's 8notes in western music, excluding the sharps and flats

  • erm...8 notes = octave...*facepalm*

  • so u play it 1 octave higher than the first?

  • 12 higher are good octaves too, 12 higher is 4 more

than 8 higher, thats why i like 12 higher octaves

much more than ordinary 8 higher octaves.

  • you cannot call 12 notes an octave...octave kinda means eight...

  • An octave is most definitely 8 higher >.>

That's why its called an OCTave ... like OCTagon lol... Some of you have never been in a band class :x

  • your jersy is very nice:-)

  • sry to sharkarama i was thinking piano

  • 0.22 - an octave is not the same note but a tone higher. Its 6 tones (12 semitones) higher.

  • 8 notes smart one

  • Getting closer, 7 notes higher.

  • 1:08 super mario dungeon theme

  • I hate your guitar...

    I don't doubt that you're a pro...

but this video didn't help. Sorry...

  • "Its the same note but a tone higher" LMAO.

  • What a dumbass...

  • whenever i go to slap the A string i always mess up and just hit like every string. any tips?

  • just practice and you'll find solution

  • its all about practice, i only played finger and pick technique, recently started slapping for fun, its very hard at first, no easy way to tell someone how, just practice and enjoy as you improve, good luck!

  • yup same here and now im great at it

  • Hand position..... If your technique is with the thumb is pointing up or horizontal (vrs pointing down like some) then move your guitar up higher on the strap so the wrist is straighter.

It's pretty hard to both slap well any look like a heavy metal bassist with guitar round the knees.

  • hellar how can you be one??? gee where are you from man??? please delete this this wanna bee is wow....

  • Listen up Carl , you need a pro bass instructor..An octave is not the same one but a tone higher. It is eight notes higher... a C# would be a C# not a D# get it.Does that make sense?

  • Bad Carl, this mistake is immortalized on you tube and will haunt you for ever!

  • hey guys whenever i slap on a bass it makes a weird harmonic sound. Anyone know what im doing wrong?

  • you're probably slapping your thumb onto the fretboard. I do it sometimes. Sometimes you can use it to your advantage.

  • no i dont do it on the fret board. Do you have to like slap really hard?

  • aim more accurately .,., and avoid hovering your left hand over frets the give harmonic sounds..

  • If you are not hitting the frets, I'll bet you are either getting this from the part of your slapping hand that you use to mute or by slapping in a downward motion. To correct this, make sure you mute with the soft part of your hand and slap in an inward direction, toward the bass rather from the top- downward.

  • thats from village people!!!!

  • umm isnt a octave 8 tones higher lol

  • Comment removed

  • You're calling me the dumbass?!?! Learn some fucking grammar before you start chirping my definition because I said that an octave is the same note 12 SEMI TONES HIGHER, unlike the dumbass bass instructor in the video who said an octave was the same note a TONE higher...
