Fondant generally only works to cover a cake and make 2D decorations. Anytime you're making 3D decorations you want to use Gumpaste or a mix of Fondant and Gumpaste. Gumpaste dries faster and harder so to better keep the shape of more fragile shapes such as flowers and bows.
I made my own marshmellow fondant and it does taste better. But its not good for sculpted dwcorations bc it never hardens and holds it shapes. I tried making bows and they kept flapping over, even over night of letting them set. So i had to buy fondant
Get your facts straight, tell the people that vanilla is also available in a clear liquid. If they want ivory color, then use dark vanilla, but, if a white fondant is needed, use the clear vanilla. Also, if it is going to be colored then it won't matter at all.
The bag of marshmallows is 297 grams. We also use gum tragacanth for our gumpaste. Yes gumpaste doesn't smell/taste very good because it uses close to 4x the amount of gum as we do in fondant.
This fondant tastes pretty good as it is but yes, you can experiment with adding vanilla and see if you like the taste. The vanilla may tint your fondant a bit ivory depending on how much you use.
Greetings from the uk! This seems like a great recipe-I think one I will try...a few questions however; how many grams of marshmallows in one bag? Also I use gum tragacanth in my recipe for flower/gum paste-but it gives it a really awful smell. Is this normal? I obviously don't want my fondant smelling bad!! Can u also vanilla extract to the water when melting the mm-I was thinking this might make it taste nicer. Your thoughts would be much appreciated! Thank you (",)
@taboo43 You'll have to make the conversions yourself for the Marshmallows. I believe they are 15 or 16 oz. Gum tragacanth shouldn't have much of an odor, and there should also be no difference in smell or taste between fondant with or without the gum tragacanth. You could add vanilla or some other flavor if you like, however it should just taste like a marshmallow, which is pretty good by itself in any case.
Crisco should not affect the taste at all. It only coats the fondant ball when it's done. If you taste it you either didn't knead it in before using it or you're just using too much.
That is correct! If you're doing it at home I would probably only do about half a batch. A full batch makes about 15lbs. Amanda has a howcast video coming out that gives more detail on the next week sometime.
THANK YOU!! I believe I got this right, do I? How many cakes will this cover? How long can you keep the fondant without using it? MARSHMALLOW FONDANT 6 BAGS JET PUFFED MARSHMALLOWS 1 C WATER 1T AND 1/2T GUM TRAGACANTH 30-32 C POWDER SUGAR Microwave marsh w/ water for 5 mins, stir every min. Add tragacanth to sugar and sift together into bowl. Knead by hand – use cornstarch on board, not powder sugar Coat it with Crisco, plastic wrap it and let it sit for a day to stiffen up.
question when your done is there a time that you should let it sit or can you use it right away

I appreciate your enthusiasm but your shaking hand kind of hurts my stomach..

I tried this fondant exactly as you instructed and the gum tragacanth made it taste chalky :-(

Was this necessary?
These people were kind enough to post and share with the world the recipe for their bakery's fondant.
If you need to be rude...DON'T POST.

Do you have a gumpaste recipe that you can share?

When I make the fondant, the crisco makes it taste kinda bad though. What can I substitute it with? :)
