Historian Ian Mortimer put forward a compelling argument that Edward II lived in obscurity well into his son's riegn. Citing the Fieschi Letter as evidence. Not personally convinced, but it is still very interesting, and "The Perfect King" by Ian Mortimer is still a great read.
Also, the Black Prince suffered from a debilitation illness for the last six years of his life. I have never heard of dysentery being the cause of his death. The Pestilence (Black Death), wiped out most of them. :(
