  • lol at tapping with the toes

  • Fart at 7:48

  • Demian o melhor...

  • He is brazilian! Look!

  • arm look

  • Maia is a smart dude. His English ability shows that.

  • muito bom

  • Didn't Matt Hughes use this 2nd counter on GSP?? Kimora to armbar??

  • @RazorOdphi exact counter technique .. Hughes example was flawless

  • I would never of thought of that counter ! brilliant!

  • I would never of thought of that counter ! brilliant!

  • buying these might be worthwhile...

  • Now tell me that is so awesome explanation because it explains in every angle. Amazing maia tu eh o melhor !!

  • simplesmente o melhor.....

  • smart fighter! deserve some kudos...

  • Demia is look,Wanderlei is nice!!!!

  • damian maia my favorite fighter .

  • fart at @5:55 =)

  • why are people giving him shit just for speaking a foreign language , his a great jui jitsu fighter and if you cant respect him just cause he dosent talk the way you want him to , then you dont deserve to watch this video and you dont deserve his teachings

  • A SIMPLE MIND goes to an art museum and adrimires the wall paper or how nice the restroom is. You are watching a genius at BJJ for free on youtube ( usually $100 dvd set) teaching moves and the only thing sticks out is him saying Look??

I watched all his Science of JJ dvds, vol 1 and 2, ALL the videos and NEVER noticed him saying LOOK, I was too busy and fascinated learning the mechanics of the moves.

    P.S. EAT A DICK ~~ BGC

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting.

Favorited, liked, and uploaded a video of us doing these drills.

    Thanks again for sharing.

  • this looks very similar to how matt hughs submitted GSP

  • Parabens maia,cotinui a representrar o jiu jitsu brasileiro......MESTRAO!!!

  • really good explaining of the techniques aey... i just started jj. i feel like trying these out but i'l prob get told off lol

  • @foreplay84 It's better to try and fail. If you get caught in a submission or sweep for trying something new, you most likely will not get told off.

  • In the first one, I `ve been doing the defense well, but I still fail when I try to counter. I hope I`ll get it right after watching the video.

Gotta try the second one too...

  • What should i do?

    Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or Muay Thai?

    Or both?

  • @julianfigielguitar a bjj fighter will beat a muay thai fighter 8 times out of 10. once you take it to the ground, a muay thai fighter wont know what to do. and 86 percent of street fights go to the ground. but both would be good if you have the time

  • @julianfigielguitar BOTH!!!!!!!!! MUAY THAI FOR CARDIO AND KILLER STRIKES.. AND IF A THUG TRIES TO TAKE U DOWN.. U FUCKIN TRIANGLE THAT ASSWIPE TO DEATH!!! RAWWRR!!!! i take jiu jitsu and kickboxin wish i had muay thai locally but i d0nt, but i take great pleasure knowing i could handle standing and ground fighting. u want no gaps in ur game.. go0d luck!

  • I wonder who's better? Maia or Penn

  • So much for taking one of Anderson Silva's legs home....

  • wow BJJ is hard but simple logic cuz on the second part i had a feeling he was gonna go for the armbar on the counter

  • Nice, respect!

  • genius,salve nosso brasil

  • @steeeeker the boss like you called him was disgrated and destroyed so he aint the boss no more

  • @landreev I believe disgraced is the word you are looking for ... Maia is not a disgrace of BJJ in MMA, he just wasn't ready for Silva. Shit! Half of the strikers that have been striking ALL THEIR LIVES aren't ready for Silva. It was just a bad fight for Maia, that's all. And Silva got the short end of the stick that evening, he'll be fighting as a prelim fight next, White said so.

  • look

  • this is to awesome!

  • He's explaining difficult concepts in a foreign language, and doing it well. Eat a dick if you think he said look too many times.

  • @redpint what really annoys me is when people keep saying "you know", faggots like Kimbo.

Maia's english is better than I expected.

  • @redpint I thumbed you down, because I thought he said look too many times.

  • @Lackeos cool story bro

  • @redpint oooooooooossssssssssssss!!!

  • "look"

  • he says look wayyy to much hahahhah

  • im gonna try this 2nite

  • "i can't pull..Segura aí!..."

    ahuahu

Foda o vídeo, muito bem explicado,Demian Maia é um dos lutadores que eu mais gosto de assistir no UFC

  • Great lesson. Demian is a fenomenal BJJ fighter, not only did he win his first 5 fights in UFC, but all of those were by submission and in 4 out of the 5 he won the "submission of the night" award. He certainly KNOWS what he's talking about.

  • there is one counter where you thread your knee through and peal it off, smashing him with elbows or just regaining a secure sidemount.

  • smahing him with elbows? that'll get you DQ'd in ju-jit-su =P

  • very well explained!!!

  • this shit is sick...great video.

  • look look look now, now look, look, look now, now look , looklooklooklook.

but seriously, this is a pretty good instructional short

  • He does the Second Kimura Counter from Side Control. Can you still get that armbar if you are in the guys half guard?

  • no u can not, ur leg will be stuck in half guard preventing you from going for the armbar.

  • You can block the kimura with your leg and then try to pull your other leg out but it isn't that easy or fast. you're better off going for the kimura reversal than the arm bar counter.

  • @spacetranaut True

  • @ jamesadams117

    thank you for the explanation!

  • He is the MAN no metter they say

Go Damian soon or later you will be the new Champion on UFC

  • i agree his ground game is second to none great grappler he is

  • where did this expression originate, "second to none" what does that really mean?

his ground game is second to none? what?

  • lol think about it u dumb shit, second to none pretty much means ur first coz ur second to no1... haha what a retard

  • @ andyjay203

easy on the insults dude, its not so easy for me to know everyt expression in english im born in Yugoslavia and live in sweden since i was 9 years old. i speak Serbian, Russian, Swedish and English and im learning portugues, how many languages do you speak?

Dont call people dumbasses for no reason, the only dumbass here seems to be you.

But thanx for explaining what "second to none" means i dont think i would have figured it out on my own actually but i was kindof close

  • @ mateah

  • @mateah 2ND PLACE TO NOBODY. AS IN FIRST PLACE. AS IN THE BEST/EQUAL BEST

  • He said Azamat Bagotov.

  • I'M LOOKING! I'M LOOKING, OKAY!

  • Look.

Lots of good tips in that vid beside the main technique.

  • Look

  • @BearsGoCal

ok look at this.. come here look. counter here.. look.. haha!!! Damian Maia is the best... LOL

  • @BearsGoCal He'll put you to sleep before you finish saying the word "look".

  • thank you......

  • maias translates better in the mma game

  • u mean with out GI

  • Counter attack 2 was done in Matt Hughes vs GSP I.

    Looked so awesome!

  • haha i love baiting the kimura so i can do this

  • Demian is ridiculous at bjj. He is super technical and he has a great philosophical approach to the art. I saw him perform at ADCC 2007 and he was just so technical. He also seems to understand "fight" jiu jitsu and not just sport jiu jitsu. The man can defend himself in fights through some of the most basic principles of bjj. Hats off to Maia.. I hope to see the same great technique from him in future bouts.

  • AGREED!

  • Maia and Nog got the best combat BJJ in MMA. Garcia, Drysdale, Lister etc they got better BJJ but they cant seem to make it work in MMA like Maia does. Maia doesnt come in thinking like its ADCC, he comes in thinking he is a samurai and needs to fight in combat and win. He gots very good Judo throws and just doesnt pull guard. He can handle himself standing. I love watching this guy fight

  • Show de bola!!!

  • Sweet Jesus did someone just say Anderson Silva is better than Demian Maia on the ground?! Oh well to each his own I suppose but Maia would destroy Anderson in a Gi or no-gi bjj match (my opinion of course) which is worth about as much as male nipples but still mine.

  • this guy is good but wonder what his standup is

  • 2:52 "do not tap ok?"

    lol

  • The second counter from being in the kimura where he counters into an arm bar..this counter was used by Matt Hughes against George St.Pierre in "The War of 04" UFC. It was the first time St.Pierre was ever beaten in UFC. Youtube St.Pierre vs Matt Hughes 04 to see this counter used perfectly in a real fight.

  • in my opinion...if anybody in the middleweight division has a chance to defeat anderson silva, it's demian maia. the guy is extremely experienced on the ground (possibly better than leites) he can submit silva.

  • i guess demian maia is quite better than leites on the ground and has great takedowns... he would probably stand a chance against silva

  • No way! Stand up Silva would DO him..Silva's also the man on the ground remember.

Maia's ground game might be world class, but he's got a billion miles to go before he can challange Silva.

  • Maia's ground game is better than Silva's, there is not any doubt about that. Maia has the best jitz in MMA right now. That said, it's not certain that he could submit Silva from the bottom before Silva could stand up again. But if Maia got on top, 9 times out of the the fight's over.

  • Marcelo, Roger, Jacare, Galvao, Drysdale are better than Maia. Marcelo, roger, galvao and jacare have all won the mundials, Maia hasnt, and Drysdale submitted Marcelo something Maia hasnt ever come close to doing.

  • 5x World Champion black, medium-heavy CBJJO 2005 black, absolute CBJJO by 2003 black, absolute CBJJO by 2002 black, medium-heavy CBJJO by 2002 brown, medium-heavy CBJJ by 2001 purple, medium-heavy CBJJ by 2000 Pan American champion 2006 - black, medium heavy - CBJJ Vice Pan-American Champion 2005 - black, medium-heavy - CBJJ North American champion in Jiu-Jitsu 2005 - black, absolute North American champion in Jiu-Jitsu 2005
  • Silvas ground game is average black belt honestly, theres a video on here of him losing a bjj match to some random guy pretty much, hes good but hes no Maia.

  • @Narukaflame you dont need to be world class at any 1 area of mma to be an amazing mma fighter just good enough to defend your weak points and keep the game in your strong points. Many amazing bjj lads have been destroyed in mma by average grapplers, grappling with strikes is way more basic than bjj comps

  • maias more diverse on the ground, but maia would have trouble getting silva there, and would get beat up.

  • his gi is so damn nice maybe because hes one of the best in the world but i want his gi

  • Yeah I love white gis with that black trim on the cuffs and on the borrom of the gi. Mine's just plain white. :3

  • *Bottom lol.

  • so go buy it. you can get that gi online

  • Demian Maia is to BJJ what Picasso is to Art

  • I definitely think that St. Pierre-Hughes I from UFC 50 is the best example of the second counter shown being used in MMA.

  • hm.

  • "LOOK" "half guward" "LOOK, LOOK"

    I love demian maia

  • lol never thought of a kimura to kimura counter thats sneaky

  • Sorry but if you are a fan of Maia you should know that Maia is on a different level from Leites. Maia is a complete grappler. He has much better takedowns than Leites. He pulls guard better than anyone I've ever seen. Maia has the tools and the balls to take Silva down. Maia won't lose on the ground. Not saying a Silva KO is not possible but Maia's BJJ is scary good. Dana white will feel forced to finally give him a title shot after he is something like 7-0 with 7 submissions. Just watch.

  • ye but it could very well end like Anderson silva and Thales Leites, and you know it yourself

  • maia is great on the ground posibly the best in the world but anderson silva is a great fighter that wont lose easly but if anyone will beat anderson it will probably be maia

  • wanderlei will beat anderson

  • wandrlei is over as a legitimate contender ever since his pride days.

  • hahhahahahah is that a joke? chuck liddell retired at 39, wanderlei is only 32 and we will wait and see i believe his next 5 years in ufc middle weight will be more remembered than his middle weight years in pride as he will be undefeated for that period

  • age is relative, its more to do with cumulative punishment, injuries etc.Look at the state of nogueira since he joined the ufc, absolutely useless.

  • yeh i no n mark coleman is in the ufc hall of fame duznt alway make sense haha oh well all we can do is talk but its up to the fighters anyway so i guess we can agree to disagree until we see what happens

  • honestly, maia IS the best in the world when the fight goes to the ground.

  • @ILLUMANOV Maia is also a submission master not many guys setup submissions in MMA like Maia.

  • @ILLUMANOV every1 one of your predictions were wrong... congrats:) he couldnt get silva down in 5 rounds HA and he came off of 1 win for the title shot:p u fail sir...

  • @killajava As far ass BJJ I'm Maia's biggest fan, and I follow his DVDs closely and they work for my body type & my style of BJJ. As for Maia in MMA, I knew he stood no chance against Marquart and even less of a chance against Silva. I predicted he'd get KOed without a takedown.

  • @ILLUMANOV haha do you remember what happened? :)

  • @ILLUMANOV Nice prediction eh? Too bad it didn't quite workout for Maia and his takedown attempts.

  • MIRA MIRA

  • wow! I am speechless! Amazing and it is a work of art! Keep it up.

  • I remember back when I taught Demian that trick. Just kidding. Seriously though, i hope he does well in his MMA ventures. He is a fantastic representative for the sport.

  • he is one of the most elite intuitive jiu jitsu professor's of our time. i was standing next to him at last year's pan-ams and i thought his shirt was ugly but now that i know of him i feel ashamed. and he will not beat anderson silva because silva's standup is far cleaner and precise but if it gets to the ground for even a second he will be in trouble.

  • The same kind of trouble lietes was meant to impose on him? scarey stuff, i love Maia hes one of my top 5 but the spider is on another level.

Just watch.

  • Looooooooooooooooke

  • Dont get me wrong, but I gotta lot of respect for BJJ but that your right bro..

    Loooke

    Looke...

    Looooooke hahaha

  • loooke...loooooke....may the force be with you Luuuuuuke!! :)

p.s. most respect about the guy...he is an absolute magnificent jiu jitsu teacher...but its funny:)

  • Yeah dude is a bad ass..he is training Frank Mir for the next Lesnar fight!!!!!

    Luke! ha

  • Maia's as good as he is because he incorporated wrestling into his BJJ.

  • #2 was well executed by Carlos Newton on MMA fight...also one of my favorites - "LOOK" you should say that you are PARAENSE, and not from SP

  • Also Matt Hughes finished Georges St Pierre with this in their first fight

  • Haven't seen that fight for a long time but I do believe you are right. Was St. Pierre going for a kimura? Regardless, Hughes definitely went far side on the armbar though.

  • excellent kimura counter

  • Look, Look, Look he"s a great grappler and teacher, his DVD"s are my favorites.

  • He will dethrown Anderson Silva. Once it hits the floor - which it will - Maia will own him. It's a real shame that he's 6-0 with 6 submission wins and he is only 3rd in line. Leites, Bisping/Henderson and then Maia. Sorry but Maia deserves it more than Bisping and Henderson.

  • Demian Maia.. one of the best submission fighters for me

  • #2 looks like what finished the first Matt Hughes Vs GSP fight

  • love this guy...he's gonna go far ......bjj rules..o'h judo too lol.......a'hhhh to be this good e'h? ..still i can dream ..can't i?

  • demian maia the king

  • Simply The Best Out There Right Now...

  • They should give him the fight with Anderson Silva instead of Thales Leites

  • MASTER

  • Look. LOOK AT NOW! LOOK NOW!!! Look.

  • rofl your bad, i bet you can barely speak english and your bitching this guy out.

  • Demian Maia is KING!!!

  • "Look. Look... Look Now. Look. Look Here..." He keeps sayin it over and over

    HAHAHA

I love this guy tho. He is so fun to watch.

for some reason i have the feeling he will fight nate marquart next

  • demian maia will beat anderson silva

  • hahahahahahahhahahz ur funny

  • ckobo have you seen this guy in the ring he is an animal!

  • 2x World Champ ... Undefeated In MAA

  • ckobo- was that a joke?

  • hes gonna be a champ this year... for sure.

  • lol I love Maia's partner... his facial expression looks so bored

  • Not just a great grappler, very good teacher too. I like both of these counters, very nice.

  • that is sneaky counter.

  • Matt Hughes V GSP 1

  • great vid thanks for posting

  • that guy is the man

  • He shows half guard and side control counters. These are very effective. I'm sure these counters would work in guard as well.

I'd like to see him show a kimura counter from front control or side mount. Those would be a little more difficult to defend.

  • but is this BJJ or just regular Japanese JJ ?

  • Well, since Damian is Brazillian and the Gracie's brought jj to them, I'm sure its BJJ.

  • hey hey hey amigo..nobody asked whos stupid, the question was is this bjj or jjj. whats so stupid about it,i dont know who Demian Maia is,it says science of JIU-JITSU (not brazilian) and he was laying showing stuff on the ground,so i asked.Plus i dont know much about either bjj or jjj. am i stupid cause i dont know Damian Maia?Stop kissing his nuts

  • I don't even know who damian maia is, lollllllll

  • and who the fuck are you to take the piss out of someone who didn't know who demian maia was?..so now you are an expert on everybody in the bjj world? nahhhhhh didn't think so...stop being an arogant little prick ..the guy asked a valid question...we know nothing until it is taught to us and we learn something new every day..and i have learnt something new too...you are still a little prick...a'hhhhh knowledge is a wonderful thing

  • Dude you guys are fucking retarded, lol.

Him stupid because RHurricanez asked probably one of the dumbest questions ever:

    RHurricanez (1 month ago)

but is this BJJ or just regular Japanese JJ?

The tags on this video state that it's BJJ.

I have absolutely no idea how this turned into an argument over who knows who Demian Maia is. So smudgey6120, you're the little prick, lol.

  • look fool...just because a tag says something ..we all know that on youtube things get mistagged..it happens..so don't get down on someone just because with the little bit of knowledge that you do have..don't throw it in other peoples faces who are stil learning....aaa'hhh but alas.....me thinks you are just another internet grappling champ who wins all his matches..while in his p.j's..ASLEEP!!
