To the lovely people who honestly believe Yngwie Malmsteen is a 'has been'.....
None of you know what the fuck you are on about, if you did, you would be publishing your reviews in various musical magazines instead of from your bedrooms with your pants round your ankles and blisters on your fingers from attempting to play smoke on the water using power chords shit loads of reverb and delay. Malmsteen is THE most creative and is a walking music theory library! If he don't know it, its irrelevant.
0:02 the sound of that pick hitting those strings is delicious for the ears. I'm not talking about the notes I'm talking about the pick going "shicki-diggi-shicki-diggi".
@toejam498 groundbreak up your ass. Malmsteen still kicks ass and will forever! Its nice to see music pioneers still rocking. And more Creative?? Who the fuck is more creative by Yngwie?? Yngwie started neoclassical metal , and what has lets say alexi laiho done? Ah yea signature guitars. Reaaaaaaaaaaaally creative
I respect Yngwie greatly especially the stuff he did in the 80's and early 90's but why would you want to play this? It's part of his style I get it but it doesn't make you a great player to just play faster than a cheetah catching a jack rabbit while puking on a pile of shit.
@CoryFinch88 As much as I like Bon Jovi, comparing Richie to Yngwie is just madness...Yngwie is the caliber of guitarist that teaches people like Richie how to play in the first place. No comparison. Something tells me Yngwie isn't much for teaching guitar though lol...It isn't like all Yngwie does is shred scales, doesn't take to much sifting through his material to find the good stuff. Brothers is a good starter.
jameswcollett..........he does seem that way huh? I can imagine his answer would be - how can I be full of myself when I am the best? I personally think he's in top 10 but not The Best. But that's just a matter of personal opinion..........for all of us, right? All end with this - If I played like him, I'd probably come across as a conceited jerk to most people too. Ha
Never noticed till Youtube that he Scallops his fretboard. Any guitar manufacturers out there who set up their fretboards already factory scalloped to try..........before I'd have a guitar shop dig out my ESP's fretboard, I think I'd wanna be sure as no turning back after done. What are the bene's vs. regular fretboard....?
@loanusum You should try to find a Malmsteen strat and test play that first. The benefit to a scalloped board is that you don't have that wood underneath your finger so the string sinks into your skin more and some people like that feel of grip and control. The downside is that your touch has to be finer because you can make your notes go sharp if you press too hard.
@michaelbryant21 And it has got to the point where Malmsteen not being "that fat" is "good thing". Well, we cannot deny that the Big Man porked out but we cannot deny that he can play some tricky licks.
@kpatrickm That was my first response as well. But I think he meant that this was the first and only moment he saw Hendrix.....and that moment was just noise of the guitar being on fire. The fact that he didn't listen to Hendrix is very obvious in his retarded guitar playing by the way :)
@kpatrickm He's referring to the news clip he saw. Jimi was burning his guitar, so he wasnt playing. The noise Yngwie was talking about was the feedback from his amps. He never said Jimi's music is noise. He loves Hendrix's music.
when most other guys try to copy Yngwie's style they use double coil pickups and massive amounts of distortion to mask their sloppy play, all the notes bleed together so you cant hear any space between them or any mistakes.
Yngwie shows us how not to be relevant. Thank God for Guitar Player, Guitar Wanker, and all those ther magazines. My captcah for this post is "spigodgen".
The faster Yngwie plays, the more Gold that appears on him. In Part 2 of this video, he has turned into a block of gold, and can't play guitar any more.
People comment that Yngwie is a jerk. Put yourself in his shoes where have grown men approaching him in a bad Chris Farley interview style asking him questions like "dude, do you remember that show you played back in 2000 at 4th & B? was awesome...so how do you play so fast like that?". Yeah, some people are a little more gracious in fielding lame comments but let me tell you Yngwie loves people, America, our Constitution and freedoms here. God bless Yngwie.
see i understand that this is really difficult to do, and it would take me a long time to master these scales, but i also just dont have a desire to play them, i would rather play somthing with more feeling to make people go "wow, hes really got it doesnt he" as opposed to "wow hes fast"...idk thts just my opinion

Yngwie Is a Great Guitarist. However, you can learn every lick he's played, impress "everybody", Get the Ego boost, and maybe get a girl friend or 2 ? But ! on your journey to success, you will run into the ultimate truth. What Do You Sound Like ? We already have a Malmsteen. This video should never discourage you ? The question is, "What Can You Learn From These Licks" & take in a whole new direction to fit "Your Style" ? Even Yngwie knows
there is a 10 year old in an alley, ripping new Licks.
@BlargGargle U should go to library and read about human mind. Im sure u will find the answer. Oh and read also a book called: "Why I have to be a hating schmuck".
@Scumbot404 Okay, and I'll also be sure to get the book that explains the difference between dislike and hate. Seriously, my disdain for his guitars and tone reflects only on those things, not the guy himself nor his talent. You people look into things way too much.
Now i'm just thinking , how can't he be tired of playing the same thing for 30 years? I mean he's good and all but for real, he has like 5 different things that hes guitarplaying evolves around!
Notice how he holds his pick... not parallel to the strings but with a slight angle... I guess it's faster. Anyway, according to my learning curve I will be able to play like that in 40 millions years.
Yngwie Malmsteen: "well the pattern I use quite alot is, UHM, ofcourse, is UHM" (SOLO!!!!)... "which is...UHM" (SOLO!!!) " hgrj chasuit mnuiter, UHM" (SOLO!!!) "you can go up as well" (SOLO!!!) :))

he was my favorite until I saw his lessons. He's just to much self loving guy who won't teach you his stuff so he could always be the best! :) no lesson he shows slow! best shredding lessons you can find to learn easy and fast are paul gilbert's and andy james ones! those will make you shred like badass in one week :-)
lol I love this guy...he's like "you see it's really quite simple" *Shreds at lightning speed* "and then from there all you gotta do is play it backwards" it's like wtf did you just do man?
@mr4y Yes Uli Roth came first in using clasical influences! But Yngwie was able to take those same influences and create a style that had a wider appeal. By the way "Rising Force" was the title of a painting on the cover of one of Uli's albums(long before Yngwie used it)talk about infuence. So yes I agree Uli doesn't get the recognition he deserves!
Yeah thats cool, but check this out. Yngwie.... boop beep bop...

he was my favorite until I saw his lessons. He's just to much self loving guy who won't teach you his stuff so he could always be the best! :) no lesson he shows slow! best shredding lessons you can find to learn easy and fast are paul gilbert's and andy james ones! those will make you shred like badass in one week :-)
