Looks a good bird but not sure why your flying in a built up area like that, to get the full potential out of your bird you need the right area like open country or better yet moorland.
@kcpl08 my friend, this is about as good as it gets around here in eastern NC. this field is much bigger than what it appears but there are some buildings around but they don't usually come into play. the field is about a mile long and 1/2 mile wide and one of the more "open" areas i have access to that's not hours away. we train our birds to stay tight so that we can fly these areas.
it is ok but I wouldn't recommend that you flew it with out perminant flying jesses again unless it is a imprint mate i lost mine last year and every falconer will comment that no flying jesses, sorry to put it mate but if you loose it you cannot retrieve it again it isn't very good, sorry mate, I had to say it it was the first mistake i found on here sorry
@9090jacko , some do as you suggest but because it's more of a "pain in the ass" thing to keep taking them in and out. the hanging jesses suggest that the bird is carrying something which will draw attention from another raptor so i prefer not to fly with them. plus if you are lucky enough to find a lost bird, and it's responsive, it should jump to the fist for food where you can hook it back up. just my preference
hi ryanmalham.. how much do u think it will cost me to get a peregrine?do u know a good place to get one?....cos ive been wanting to get one cos i love them so much..to have them is my dream..thank you for your time.
Peregrine falcons can reach 200 (according to description)? That must be why Suzuki named their super bike the hayabusa, the Japanese word for peregrine falcon.
I'm a newbie to falcons and I'm really just interested in watchin and maybe someday I could be a falconer, but what breed of falcon was that, and if it wasn't your first, which breed do you think is the most forgiving?
@BriNRave in the U.S. you have to start with either an American Kestrel or a Red Tail, you serve as an apprentice with one of these birds for 2 years, then if you're ready you get a general falconers license, which gives you the ability to hunt with any raptor not on the endangered species list (like a peregrine), then after 4 years you can become a master falconer which enables you to use ANY raptor
@thatscrazee they put the hood on when they handle the bird to keep them calm and keep them from trying to fly off the fist while you're holding the leather straps on the legs (called jesses).
here's an idea next time don't take the kids. the vid was cool and I'm sure you love your kids and I love kids too ,well done,or medium rare depending upon age. They made watching the vid very difficult. Great footage though. Thanks for posting it.
@RILEIGHJO Ya that's great but I'm 43 dumbass and I don't xbox you dumb shit and really after you stop shoving your ass up your head you can relize that people are smarter than you and when your smarter then we can talk but till then SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH!
@007flyguy1 .... 43 huh? i concede that some on planet earth are smarter than me, but not you. the things i say are not from some book or hearsay from others who are as ignorant as you, but from 20 years of hands on EXPERIENCE. so spare me your self inflicted genius status and go take the test and pick up a glove. until then, i'd rather you say thanks and be on your merry way.
Peregrine falcons are amazing, I'm so jealous of you right now I want one! You obviously have a lot of knowledge on them and your falcon is beautiful buddy
So what was the falcon doing at first? Was it "flushing" out the bird from the field so that it would go up into the air? I also read that peregrine falcons actually punch their prey and then grab them and it is the punch that actually kills the prey. Cool!
@greymilton when the falcon gets airborne, the birds in the field will freeze. after the falcon gets into position above us, we flush the birds and the falcon comes down after them. their methods of striking their prey sometimes is determined by "which" prey it is. they may strike it or just bind to it. unless it's a really hard hit, such as a head shot, the falcon will usually kill it on the ground with a quick bite to the neck, severing the spinal cord.
@RILEIGHJO Cool, so you are actually working with the birds when hunting. I saw a presentation from a woman who was a falconer and she shared a lot of information. Thanks also for the video link... I searched it and it pretty well demonstrates what you were describing about "Flushing out" the birds from the ground. Cheers.

@007flyguy1 ...... repetition will be the only way anything can penetrate your adolescent "know it all" skull. when you get your falconry permit and have practiced it until you are 40, then and only then will i do anything but wipe my ass with your comments. for now, go back to your x-box.
Hell no this falcon will kill any dam red tailed hawk I've even talked to falconers and they even said the same thing big things come in small packages you dumbass and for the record that hick doesn't know shit!!
@007flyguy1 .... don't let your double digit IQ stand in the way of you learning something. i don't give a shit what you've been told nor by whom..... you(they) are incorrect. THIS falcon is MY falcon and i've been a falconer for almost 20 years, which is the same length of time you've been removed from your mother's uterus, so there is a really good possibility that i have forgotten more about birds of prey than you will ever learn. but you can do yourself a favor and listen to what i say.
Pml2DarkNight.... don't let a vid on utube be your only source for information. this is my falcon and he was almost killed by a redtail during his training. other falconers HAVE had their falcons killed by redtails, eagles and other birds of prey.
now let me tell this guy something do me a favor next time u see him, tell him that a redtailed can;t kill a peregrine falcon the opposite can happen, it dosen;t matter if a peregrine its small. it got speed and its stronger. if you search on utube you will find a peregrine run after 2 bald eagle trying to take them away from his area
@Pml2DarkNight .... don't let a vid on utube be your only source for information. this is my falcon and he was almost killed by a redtail during his training. other falconers HAVE had their falcons killed by redtails, eagles and other birds of prey.
@Pml2DarkNight , you are correct in that the falcon is much faster but that's in a stoop. it's not in the air where the redtails are a threat. it's on the ground. when a falcon is eating on it's kill, a redtail or eagle stoops the falcon. those birds may be coming down from hundreds of feet at incredible speeds and the falcon doesn't have a chance. your other statement about the strength of the falcon vs the redtail is exactly opposite of what you've implied. a redtail is MUCH more powerful
@RILEIGHJO well for me what i have being searching for it. not on the videos but on the thurth typing on google, most of the result said that peregrine can beat redtailed the difference between them isnt much, the size is about 10 maybe 15 cm longer then a peregrine, thats nothing, do u have an idea what 10 cm is?? and the wing is just maybe 15-20 peregrine are design to fight with larger birds, and isnt that big the difference, what i think that your friend falcon is just to small, cuz on other
@Pml2DarkNight ... my falcon is a male and is an average size one at that. peregrines come in all sizes and sub species. so do redtails. the respective sizes for "anatum" peregrines of both sexes versus that of redtail hawks is only a little above half the size of a RT. i recommend you go to a falconry event in your state and "see" the difference in the sizes of these birds "especially" their feet. a falcon has relatively weak feet compared to a redtail. matter of fact, it ain't even close.
@Pml2DarkNight .......at best, the peregrine is a third smaller than the redtail . a "female" peregrine is smaller than a "male" redtail which represents the large end of the peregrine and the low end of the redtail.
@RILEIGHJO researchers i have beeing seing bigger, it depends and also a female is bigger then a male. now thats what i think and my result. peregrine its smaller but got a strong feet. a hawk its just 10 to 15 cm longer it dosen;t matter that. now your friend falcon is youth i guess
@Pml2DarkNight .. maybe you aren't understanding me. the falcon in this vid is MY falcon and i am well aware of it's capabilities. a redtail hawk weighs from 30 oz up to 60oz. a peregrine falcon weighs from 20 oz to mid 30's at best. let me describe the ONLY scenario in which a peregrine can kill a redtail. a redtail is flying or standing and a peregrine blind sides it striking it in the head. that's it. case closed. those two birds standing toe to toe will result in a dead falcon.
Hey Ryanmalham, Can you tell me everything I need to know on how to Obtain a Falcon and use it for hunting and how to train.. Can you give me a good web site where I can study on it.. Looks exciting..

No they are very hungry when they hunt. If they are full they won't hunt. it's instinct is to catch the prey and eat it.
