The entire Obsession album had an air of melancholy, including Mogg's lyrics and vocals, and Schenker's playing (explosive as it was). This song and Born to Lose were the ace weepies, and One More for the Rodeo and Only You Can Rock Me had emotion to spare too. But is the record depressing? Heck no! It's uplifting. Wish I'd discovered UFO before Strangers in the Night...
I am a kid and wish i was 17 but am old now ,but these guys are legends that nobody really knows about I mean when was the last time you heard any UFO song anywhere. WE really are run by an establishment of mediocrity in everything that we look at these days . SOOO glad I am old school and know different.
This stuff is as legendary as it is because no one knows what it is. I'm a 21 yr old guitar player and my uncle made sure i listened to the very best so i may become just that...dont worry if other appreciate, just relish in the fact that we know we hear it and can't deny its greatness.
@44SuperShredder Too right!! UFO Are awesome. Force it and Obsession were two of my most played albums when I was a teenager in the 70's ....UTube is the saviour of lost albums. Top marks to you AXEFLYERFV!!!
Producer Ron Nevison brought out the tone and vibrancy of Schenker's sound..even the rhythm guitar tracks were so superb! Unfortunately, Ron and other producers could not replicate that tone on recording that "Obsession" contains..I heard an early 80s Heart album that Ron Nevison produced, and could detect a few samples of that sound in the guitar parts.
it is sad that history give a lot kudos to songs like Yesterday , my Way Ruby Tuesday ,I will always love you etc,etc
How this song is not up there with the all time great ballads is beyound me since it is the greatest rock ballad I have heard a never tire of listining to the mojority of people how buy and those who make and promote have no taste for great music ohterwise UFO would have been better remembred and apreciated by more people
I saw them live the year (1978) that this album and the live one "strangers in the night" were released and must admit that they were an awesome band. Unfortunately they could never sustain it once schenker left and although they did a couple of decent albums after...they lost thet edge.
If you like this album? you'll like schenker on the "Scorpions" album of 1979 "LOVEDRIVE".....classic.
Schenker's lead guitar tone on this album has never been rivaled or mached...He kicked everybody's butt...and all guitarists at that time new it...and the the Strangers album came out and raised the bar even higher....
Well said mate.....thought I was the only one that thought that the guitar tone on this album has never been equalled. This is a guitarist at the top of his game......his playing on this album gives me goosebumps!
The record companies tried to kill and bury Rock. With the web and youtube there is no stopping it. We would never get to hear and see most of the videos out there. The record companies are losing so much money, because they tried to fuck everybody and now there getting fucked! You can't kill, Rock and Roll! HaHAHa
I like Michael Schenker, one of the best to ever live. AND no they don't make music like this anymore, our generation is dying bro...bands like Saxon, DPurple etc Music is now Rap Crap, Thump Thump when they drive by or hit a button and the let the "beat" play for you, LOL!! Junk man just junk. I will take these guys to my grave!
i can't stop listening to this awesome song!by far ,one of my faves!so genius in every aspect;unlike today's cookie music bullshit.Schenker's lead break is unreallllllllll, and so is he lol, yummy.
Probably the best song UFO has done so far... For sure the best balled ( and they have a ton of winners). Obviously they did "make it" but should have been twice as big. So underrated it's borderline criminal. Still listen to the old and new UFO. They still got it!
I freakin love it, but didn't comment on the clip before. Obsession was my first LP I bought of UFO and from Paul's first days in the band, I was still hooked... Schenker and Chapman both kick ass
Wow,AXEFLYERFV, ever since I stumbled onto YouTube during the Spring of 2008, I have been searching for this lost gem that never garnered the airplay that it should have. It takes me back to the Fall of 1978 when I was a 14-year old freshmen in High School feeling a little bit overwhelmed by it all, (girls, new surroundings, the neighborhood bullies who had singled me out for torment, etc.,). I always found encouragement, hope and solace in this song!! Thanks
