  • So glad the pack racing is back this year!

  • Now THIS is racing...not that tandem crap.

  • balls out driving in a pack !!, No bull 5 WIN.

  • Dale Jr. take notes... this is how you win races.

  • Ive dale earnhardt has still live then he can get his 8 tittle or to be a owner

  • Yes, the 2 car tandem is not as exciting as this pack racing. This must be the best drive from any Nascar driver ever, 17th to 1st in 4 laps. How much is Earnhardt missed ?? Certainly hope for pack racing at 2012 Daytona 500 as i'm going all the way from UK to watch it.

  • The easiest way to fix the 2 car tandem racing is for Nascar to make it so the rear bumpers don't line up perfectly with the front bumpers. That way, they need to get off them in the turns. THAT creates packs, not smaller radiators or spoilers. Drivers nowadays are too cookie-cutter sponsor-driven anyways. Earnhardt was a real man.

  • in todays racing, the 2 car tandem sucks

  • 2001 was probably the last year NASCAR was actually NASCAR

  • did kenny win a winston race?

  • It's kinda funny how 30 to 35 years ago the packs may have consisted of 3 to 6 cars max at Talladega and 2 or 3 at Daytona and people loved it. Hell the best race people say Nascar had was the 79 Daytona 500 the lead draft consisted of how many? 2 cars! The two car drafts are not that bad and as the Truck race a Dega proved this year It's a skill the drivers learned and not the car they drive...

  • @JRRacing64 It's because it wasn't artificial. No restrictor plate allows for more freedom. It worked then and would work now, but the cars are too fast to make it safe.

The Trucks are fine, but the NNS and Cup series abberations have ruined the racing at these tracks.

  • I was driving home from the mountains listening to this on the radio. The little town heard it all when SR. Crossed that line #1. Greatest driver ever.

  • The best there was, the best there ever will be. R.I.P. Intimidator I love you.

  • I remember when the cars were allowed to race on all of the track instead of above the double yellow line...

  • god do i miss that man...

  • @MuLIShA3mAn88 Greatest Man to Ever Drive a Stock Car

  • @ 2:30 Jerry Punch put out the best line of the race, "And here comes Earnhardt", gives me chills everytime.

  • You raced against Dale Earnhardt...and Dale Earnhardt won!

  • @CBright7831 Put Your Dick in the Dirt ! !

  • @MrShagnasty18 are you a kenny wallace fan?

  • @123redrules Kenny is Cool , Why you ask?

  • @MrShagnasty18 does he still race?

  • @123redrules In the NW Series Yes ..............

  • this is when restrictor plate racing was at its best!

  • Anyone else get a little tear in their eye as soon as Dale Sr. crossed the line?

  • FUCK THE TWO CAR TANGO 3 WIDE 4 LIFE!!!

  • Enter our Talladega sweepstakes for a chance to win: facebook / jobsatschneider

  • God, i miss these days. Not the bunch of prissies in their designer sunglasses today. Back when danger was all too real, when real men raced eachother. Back when driving was top priority. Back when Rudd, Wallace, Jarret, the Labontes, Marlin and Schrader ran well.

  • @MurphyMonster Dont forget Jeff Gordon

  • This is the definition of "refuse to lose"

  • What an amazing victory for his last R.I.P INTIMIDATOR

  • nascar at its best with one the greatest drives of all times winning where has nascar gone now

  • DAMN WHAT THE BLEEP WAS NASCAR THINKING WHEN THEY GOT RID OF THIS KIND OF RACING, oops sorry folks. caps button sometimes doesnt work

  • Unreal, and even more awesome is that there was no wreck. Jr. down on the apron, and everyone was able to make it out!

  • Does anyone else miss this three wide racing and packing racing, instead of this two car tango

  • @ljlive23 I definately miss it..seems more like follow the leader now.

  • @ljlive23 yes, new racing sucks at 2+ milers. Only bad thing about vid is Gayle Senior won...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the Earnhardts!

  • @ljlive23 don't worry, they'll be racing in packs in the 2012 500

  • @123redrules No they most likely won't, NASCAR told them to run in the packs like that for a few laps in testing.

  • the reason for the two car draft is because the cars are so aerodynamic.... there is less engine doing the work and more draft. they need to make the cars less aerodynamic and give them their horsepower back in order to bring back pack racing......and thats not gonna happen

  • @CGSmij08 Hope it does............

  • Man if only they could have this kind of racing nowadays. Talladega shouldn'tve ever gotten repaved looking back on it now.

  • GOOD OLD TIMES..... DE-4-EVER

  • this is way better than the 2 car tandem bullshit we have now

  • I was there

    Left early though

  • I was there

  • I was there

  • great racing the way it otta be. and i dont mean just dale sr but for all 3 some cars in that pack to not wreck until it was over.

  • 7 YEARS LATER IN 07 JEFF BREAKS HIS REC

  • and there you have it....the best ever. #3

  • 1:48 to 1:57 is awsome i love when they do that at talladega

  • Finishing second to Dale Earnhardt is clearly the finest moment in Kenny Wallace's career.

  • The field can consider itself manhandled. With 4 to go you can see on the ticker that Earnhardt was in 18th place. How on earth did Earnhardt convert after being behind 17 men with better positions to win at that point in time

  • @hyperacti There's a strategy with drafting that they use in indy. Follow behind the car till you pick up about 10 more mph the use the extra speed to to slingshot on the outside were there arent any cars. Easier to do with these because drafting is more effciant, and thus the speed gain is greater.

  • @bandman232 But the point is everyone in this field knew how to draft better than anyone else in the world, and Dale Earnhardt dominated them all.

This really isn't like Indycar at all though. Nascar uses restrictor plates so it all depends on which package they bring to the track. I wouldn't say the speed gain in Nascar is greater.

  • This is the racing at Daytona and Talladega that I miss, I am sick of this two car break-away shit! Fix it Nascar, i want finishes like this back

  • @RosserppO I second that

  • I'm not a fan of Dale Earnhardt, I never did like him, I remember when he started in the Wrangler 3. Nevertheless, I watched this race live and I couldn't believe that he came from 17th to the lead in 4 laps. I still can't believe it.

  • actually dale sr. did it in 3 laps, then just held on to 1st for the last lap.

  • no they don't

  • 17 to first in 4 laps, lets see jimmie do that >:)

  • @caseyreavis 10 years ago, dickbag johnson could not dothat, but nowadays, due to brian france running nascar into the ground with the 2 car hookup, anyone could do it, it's a shame, dale sr. is probably rolling over in his grave because of brian france. as a matter of fact, bill sr. and bill jr. are probably rolling over in their grves like earnhardt said 10 years ago at daytona because their namesake is ruining the best racing on earth!

  • @dlwile33 ^yeah, i miss the old daytona and tallladega :(

  • That was just freaking awesome!

  • I watched him win alot of them, but this was by far the most amazing of all of them, what a moment in history. I liked this win even better than when he won the Daytona 500. Never thought it would be the last time he would win but no other race ever more explained the type of driver he was, this was what defined Earnhardt

  • the Intimidator is scrapped and beaten on the right side, but he will not be denied...

    i miss u Dale

  • The best ever

  • The Best race i ever saw in my life... Way to go Dale Sr R.I.P. Man In Black...

  • boy that has a great ring to it, "Mr. Restrictor plate, Dale Earnhardt will come down and take his 10TH career talladega victory!"

  • "Thats when racin ended........so sorry!AWESOME,but its over!big tears

  • If anybody ever needed proof that Dale Sr. was the greatest restrictor-plate driver of all time, show them this. 18th to the lead in less than four laps, splitting the middle. That's the kind of stuff he could do, and make it look so easy.

  • I was at this race in the Allison stands on the backstretch. (My first cup race). A month ago, I went to the Hall of Fame in Charlotte, and there in the ring of honor, was this car, that won this race, and I just broke down. I've never been a big Earnhardt fan, but he's one of my favorite sport's heros, and it was extremely emotional to see that car. If you live close by, go and see it.

  • this was greatness

  • it is for sure not even close to being what the sport was when he was racing....everybody was out there to watch him race....loved him or hated him.....he was just awesome

  • I was watching this race live on TV and I could not believe my eyes. Still amazing to watch. In my opinion, this was the best finish ever in NASCAR.

  • Look people. I'm not saying the racing today is better or worse than what it was backthen, I'm just saying that today's racing isn't bad and it's actually great.

  • You know what? F*&K that yellow line.

  • The difference between Jr's run at this year's 500 and the 2000 Talledega was Dale Sr's will to win.

  • This was when stock car racing in Nascar was good. The racing today can not even come close to what it once was. Nascar should go back to real race cars like they are in this video instead of the COT crap that sucks. What you see here is what made Nascar exciting to watch every sunday with real drivers and good racing without the yellow line rule or no bump drafting and stuff like that.

  • Rest in peace Dale, it isn't and will never be the same without you. :'(

  • Listen to the crowd!! Change sucks.

  • Ned and Benny made the races so much better.

  • even if you watch just one race with dale u are a fan

  • I miss racing like this. I was at the 2000 spring dega race and for some stupid reason, I opted not to go back in the fall....BIG MISTAKE! I watched Dale's last win from home when I should have been sitting beside my cousin in the stands!

  • He could see the air.........plain and simple!! Nobody, not even Petty with his 7 Daytona 500's knew how to race at Daytona/Talladega better than Earnhardt.

  • Dale Earnhardt was the original "Mr. Where Did He Come From". He used every single car in front of him those last 5 laps to get to the front. Watching this makes me think about how much Kevin Harvick drives like Dale.

  • This video makes me miss him, and this type of racing. The new car drives like a damn truck. EricW, I couldn't agree more.

  • Is this the win where he comes back from like 13th place to win it on the last couple laps. Which is the greatest thing I ever seen

  • 4 words in racing that always made my heart jump and made me smile: "AND HERE COMES EARNHARDT!"

  • "The Intimidator is scraped and beaten on the right side, but he will not be denied"!

"20 years of trying, 20 years of frustration, Dale Earnhardt will come to the caution flag to win the Daytona 500"!

Two of the best NASCAR commentator quotes EVER!

  • Comment removed

  • thats fuckin nascar racing back in the day boys!! todays racing can"t hold a candel to it!! soorry newbies...you'll never experience it......sooo sad...

  • If you pay close attention.....Jr. was passing skinner and skinner cut down on him which caused the 8 to go down on the apron. If not for that it may have been a 3 and 8 one two finish. Glad skinner is back where he belongs...in the minor leagues.

  • I know what happened in this race, have seen it many times. Still when I see Earnhardt do in this race what he did so many times it still actually gives me goose bumps and chills. The 3 car was and still is the greatest ever in any form of racing. This is back when racing was exciting and you thought about the upcoming race w/anticipation during the work week. Now.....I don't even watch it.

  • its just not the same without the #3. miss him

  • Look how much more awesome racing at Dega was before that freakin' yellow line rule. Four wide for the lead, 5 laps to go, and an epic black number 3.

  • @sharkbowl300 That racing is still that awesome. I miss those days when it wasn't about blocking or don't pass there rules. Those were part of the dangers that made the race within the race.

I like that racing is much safer, however no-one was better at it in NASCAR than the driver of that Goodwrench Chevrolet. Thumbs up to you!

  • this was on october 15th my birthday

  • listen to the damn crowd on the last lap.....you can hear them over all of the cars WOW

  • R.I.P. #3

    The Best EVER!!!

  • This is all I could think about when junior made that run from 10th to 2nd in the last couple laps at Daytona last week.

  • me too !!

  • @expiredplates if jr had the internal drive to win that his daddy had he would have atleast one championship right now

  • @expiredplates i think that was passed down from father to son was the ability to rock a superspeedways

  • @expiredplates I know it was just amazing watching him do just like his dad did back in the day. @ MetMan 305 I totally agree watching this again and it still gave me goose bumps. Nascar is nothing likie it was

  • best damn driver I have ever seen. 17th to 1st in less than 5 laps.

They just don't make them like that anymore.

  • get rid of that double yellow on the bottom nascar i miss this stuff

  • @grayj85

Might be a cause for some excitement, but I get the yellow line rule. The only problem I have with it is that NASCAR does not enforce it evenly, or at least consistently

  • Listen to the crowd on the last lap, they just don't make em like that anymore.

  • @starsnbars3 they dont make races like this anymore either...

  • classic

  • talladega's the best track

  • That was a fitting final win of historic career.

  • I was lucky enough to be at that race. I'll never forget it.

  • I was there too bro. It was so loud when he took the lead and when he crossed the finish line!

  • Your not kidding! That whole track was shaking from the fans screaming.

  • I remember Darrel waltrip the commentator saying " if you are within 20 miles of Talladega superspeedway, Don't worry, It's not an earthquake it's Jr fan nation." LMAO

  • I still get chills from watching this 9 years after the fact....no one but Earnhardt could have pulled that off.

  • Dammmit they nascar ought get back to racing like this. I still get goosebumps when i see this

  • Dale Earnhardt was a man above all men on the race track!!!!!!

  • I wonder: what is your opinion on Jerry Punch on this race?

  • That was a work of art right there. Glad I got to see that man race for many many years-probably took Earnhardt for granted out there. Now that he's gone its become painfully apparent that his shoes can't be filled. Few had the determination, skill and charisma that Earnhardt had. A really unique and super talented man.

  • The end of NASCAR's glory days as soon as he crossed that finish line, we just didn't know it at the time

  • earnhardt would be pissed with peoples bitchn if he was still here today

  • 3, I Say THREE BOW Tie's finished 1 2 3!!! yeah c'mon!!!

  • chrisgtube1,

Yeah it was a 3 car break away of all bow ties.....but the top 6 were all chevy's. Earnhardt Sr., K. Wallace, Nemechek, Gordon, Skinner, and T. Labonte.

  • good call!!!

  • 21st position with 3 laps to go....i was there that day..and could not believe my eyes when he drove through all that traffic to win the race!!! i could not talk for two days i was yelling so much.....lol miss him also!!!

  • jesus christ allowed dale earnhardt

    to win this race.

  • Earnhardt was like a streak of magnificent lightning. He flashed beautifully for the briefest of moments. And then he was gone, and we'll never have him back. He is with God now, though we miss him so much.

  • That shows you right there the MAN was not done, if he had not died at Daytona in Feb, he would have had 90+ wins.

  • SUPER RACE

  • This probably one of the best nascar races ever. I don't know why Dale Jr didn't cut up the same way skinner did. Gave his dad the win that way.

  • What a beautiful day that was. Man I sure do miss him.

  • Thanks for posting this. I agree with the others...sure do miss this kind of racing.

  • These moments are why I love NASCAR, though it'll never happen again! I still dont see how in the crap Earnhardt got through all them cars!!!

  • He got through there because he was the most gifted racecar driver of all time. He could blend aggression with finesse better than all the other's weve seen over the years.

  • Well you got a good point there, I agree!

  • Well, even for the setup NASCAR had for these races, that is just flat out amazing Earnhardt flew up like that.

  • This kind of raceing is gone forever.

  • DAMN I miss this kind of racing! This is what NASCAR used to be, notice how you could hear the engines, you rarely hear that now, listen to the fans! I still get excited when I look at videos like this. Its a shame what NASCAR has become.

Even when I listen to MRN now and a caution comes out, they call it a "service master clean caution", maybe I'm old school but NASCAR has done a complete 180. I doubt we'll ever get back to racing like this.

  • As a whole, this was the greatest final 5 laps in NASCAR history. No doubt. It'll never happen again, sadly.

  • I disagree. It can happen, they just gotta...

    1. Do some work on the cars so you can get past people and do some work on them

    and

    2. Make these drivers go for a win rather than "points position"

  • These drivers were all the best in the world (and many still are) in my opinion. They didn't wreck when they got 5-wide! That is simply amazing!

And I will never forget Eli Gold's commentary on MRN Radio at the moment that Sr. took the lead.

"The fans are BESIDE THEMSELVES here at Talladega!!"

  • This was definitely great stuff. If you like this, check out the finish of the 2001 CART Michigan 500. At Talladega these guys run at 190; at Michigan in the Champ Cars they ran at 220-225 mph, and the proximity was just as close!

  • AMEN MetMan

  • Jesus This Was When NASCAR Was Good

  • @MetMan305 i think nascar is just as good as it was then if not better

  • @MetMan305 Yeah, now it's great! ;)

  • @awalker28 Great?! wtf have you been watching?

  • @flyer2359 The racing right now has been some of the best racing in years.

  • @awalker28 So single file, hardly any racing at all except for a minor few races at best... most races this year have been a bore fest, no as bad as last year and year before but still pretty bad.

  • @flyer2359 That is so untrue. There has been great racing all year minus a few races. There's side-by-side racing basically every race!

  • @awalker28 i doubt that

  • @evanzsayz Watch it then.

  • @awalker28 WTF? You must think WNBA is REALLY exciting then too huh?

  • @codemanrose I hate WNBA. I'm not saying the racing is better or worse than in 2000 because I didn't watch NASCAR then but I know for a fact that the racing today is great and if you don't like it than you don't like NASCAR.

  • @awalker28 I don't care for racing much today... but doesn't mean I dislike nascar... If you are making that statement then absolutely hardly anyone would be in the stands at all today (hardly can get 70% of them full now anyways). The racing was much better back 6-7+ years ago and thats why a lot of us don't like the racing today, because its not even half as exciting as it was then.

  • @flyer2359 Your exactly right. I would go as far to say that the racing isn't even a third of what it used to be. I can't even last 50 laps without falling asleep during the races anymore. Even Bristol has become horrible. The only races I watch are Dega and Tona.

  • @awalker28 Oh, I like NASCAR...just not what it has come too. Check the fan base...they dont get crowds like they used to....FACT. And it's not because the economy either...Everyone that you talk to says it's not the fast, competitive racing it once was.

  • @codemanrose Blame Jimmie Johnson.

  • @awalker28 No, blame the horrible changes has made to NASCAR. The Chase (which basically laughs in the face of consistency), the CoT, and no racing back to the yellow.

Don't blame the talents of a driver who's able to take advantage of such a shitty system.

  • @skankuser well said

  • @awalker28 that's about the most stupid-assed comment i've seen on youtube.

  • @flyer2359 *This is my new account* I was being sarcastic lol

  • @MetMan305: It's still good at times, it's just that it was EPIC in this era...

  • "and a WRECK! a CRAISH" -Ned Jarrett

  • dale jr should have pulled out in front of his dad on the backstrech with 2 laps to go he couldhave won the race but still this rzce is and will always be a classic

  • This and Harvicks 2007 Daytona win are the greatest drives I have ever seen in NASCAR (on a restricter plate race anyway)

    I was
