Omg, Dr. Dre's are like Bose. Complete utter garbage. I don't even have Grado SR325is. I got Sr80i and those are mountains of levels better than Dre's studios. What's the point of active noise reduction if the Dre Studios leaks as almost as much as the SR80i.
@KlipschEAR Dr. Dre Studios have active noise canceling technology, but the thing about it is, it's very BAD active noise canceling technology. You can always hear a slight hum in the background, and it doesn't work that well anyway.
wow man, you CAN NOT drive these from an ipod...not for anyother reason than you purely shouldn't...also if thats as loud as open backed earphones go, they are clearly having trouble being driven. Still kudos on your choice of headphones. should look in to the alessandro MS2, very similar (they are modders) and perhaps even better.
@audiophilicreviews well you can quite happily do it, as in they serve their function, i do however agree that they should not be used as such. they were designed to be used with a quality amplifier and a high fidelity source, which is the environment in which they excel.
@audiophilicreviews they actually don't need to be driven to proper. when i'm out/about I go sans-amp and its good enough when Im not listening critically. they're driven properly without an amplifier - there's no need to listen to anything above 85dB - that's why you buy high quality headphones.
@ladicius thats not what im saying at all, you dont buy headphones to listen quitely, although i do use them like that also. the fact that use an amp means you add power to ampliy them. ALSO im not saying you cant listen to them out an ipod at full volume. but what a lovely way to kill battery that is. there is a reason for amps you know, they help sound quality a lot too...you dont buy them at that price to listen to them anything but properly. otherwise whats the point.
@audiophilicreviews incorrect - you buy headphones to recreate the sound to the closest representation to the original recording as possible. you listen below 70dB so you don't damage your hearing from prolonged, analytical listening sessions. you're able to do so given the quality of the headphones. and it doesn't kill a battery any faster. and yes, they do help sound quality. i have the akg k702's with a raysamuelsaudio sr71A, cypher labs algorithm solo, and a cardas custom cable.
@ladicius agreed in every respect EXCEPT having to put the volume extra high to get the same sound level does kill battery. nice set up man. if your interested check your inbox, it would be good to have someone with a good grasp on things on our team =D
like why bother even my boom box cd is only 20 to 20000
i need a education if i record lossless i plan on a lot of recording in 256 range is it a waste to buy to tell you the truth i was thinking of rbi grado amp and my i pod touch for listening should i put moony elsewhere
@kevinpatrickfarley these are HiFi headphones, they are designed to be amplified with either a high quality CD player as a source, or vinyl. if you have a good sound card and preferably a DAC then you can make lossless audio sound incredible. if you only want to use an ipod, go for a lower spec Grado , like a 123, or 225. you may also find the ability of these headphones to represent even the finest details irritating on an ipod as many of the tracks will have imperfections. hope this helps.
@chuckmanbob On my iPod, (2005 Classic version) I run Apple Lossless files from my iPod, into a FiiO E7 portable headphone amplifier, and then to the headphones. Would these headphones be a good match for a portable rig like that?
@ChickenVendetta yes they would be perfect imho, although the slight issue as far as portability goes is they can become uncomfortable after extended use, and they are open back, so everyone else will hear your music too.
@kevinpatrickfarley not completely, the fact that they cover a wider range means they're also at ease with the usual range of frequency, more smooth ! And if you wanna have a real hi-fi sound on the go, there is very much better source than iPod (source that will allow you to load FLAC, WAV, etc with very good electronics, like Cowon's)
@dhimanro i haven't noticed a significant reduction in comparison with other headphones, although i don't use them with an ipod all that often, they are 32 ohm after all .
They have very bright and detailed highs, which many people find fatiguing. If you're going from headphones that have a strong muddy bass sound (which many find easy to listen to), these will be a big difference.
Personally, I wear them for hours without a problem. On a good recording, the detail allows you hear things you'd miss with many other headphones. That's what I enjoy, but if you just want easy listening goodness, these might not be the ones for you.
Awesome cans. I have the Alessandro MS1i (modified SR125i) and thinking of upgrading to the SR325is. Or I might just save up some more and go straight for the RS1i. Grados are something very special. I enjoy my MS1i just as much as my (much more expensive) Sennheiser HD600!
@CatchMeInTheRyeFilms not form my experience, i have listened for hours, they do become uncomfortable however as the drivers rest on your ears and so they begin to become sore, you can just take them off for 2 mins and wiggle your ears a bit and you will be fine. i have been trying to find a solution to this but as of yet can't find a company who makes earcups, maybe i can get them custom made ....
Ive read that the Bowers & Wilkins P5's have stellar performance as well. And a plus, the build quality is fantastic, how do these compare to the P5's? Also, how much better do these sound with an amplifier(if you have one)?
@KlipschEAR Exactly!!! Grado SR325is create very accurate and clean sound with fast bass and nice imaging. For those who prefer DrDre Studio I would suggest paying attention to the clarity and power handling capability of those headphones.
how good is the quality on these headphones...i just ordered them!! I'm scared that they may give me problems over time, like falling apart or something. Are the cables detachable??
in every respect yes, please do not waste your money on that piece low quality, overpriced gimick, you will not hear what the artist intended for you to hear, simply a version distorted by the headphones
Chuckmanbob, before judging this award winning stuff, you need to learn how to use it. Grado SR325is gives shrilling audio spike on portable and low quality devices. It will not make bad records sound smooth. You need good amplifier and CD player to make Grado SR325is shine. But, if your Grado SR 325is still sound bad, than I would say, that item just didn't meet standard regulations for that particular model. Grado SR325is is great!
@chuckmanbob yes, you would be disappointed with Grado SR 325is if you use them for your I-Pod. I would suggest you using amplifier. Adjust the bass and trebles and start feeling the soundwave!
@pinksk8ter19 i bet even dr dre is afraid to use those headphones lol let alone mixing with them, they are over advertised to get popularity, but in the audiophile community they are hated.
i am afraid it does not come in the box and you will need to buy one seperatley, you can easily get a non grado adapter but the quality will not be as good and there will be a small amount of sound quality loss .
I always pronounced it "Grah-do" in a not very harsh tone. x] I had always wondered how they fit in the box since I've seen many pics of the headphones in the box and never really figured where the wire was. I guess it was underneath. I'm waiting for a pair of Grado HF2s myself
it's actually one of the reason's i chose this model, they remain light but they fel a lot stronger and look really cool, i think it is brushed aluminium.
Hi, please, can u write me what is the size of the grado box exactly if u have it....
Tnx

hi there,
wanted some help regarding the grado heaphones. i recently ordered a grado sr225i.
i was wondering if i'll require a GRADO - MINI ADAPTER CABLE (1/4" TO 1/8") to connect the headphones to my ipod.
does the mini cable come with the package or do i have to purchase it separately?
thanks

impedance isn't the only factor for driving headphones. denon cans are pretty low too but they don't sound great straight out of ipods.

Officially, the only differences between the 325i and 325is is only aesthetic.

And cable. The is version uses a thicker 8 conductor cable.
DaftSpunk69 2 years ago
Oh... since you seem to know this stuff: Did the 325i have 4 conductor and now it has 8? Does have any sonic effect if so?

The i version (Gold) has the older, thinner 4 conductor cable. is (Silver) has the thicker 8 conductor.
