@peneenorme123 I suppose you forget that it was basically Europe that created the Americas with our explorers going there and claiming the lands in their Empires. I thought of a way to adapt it to include the Southern Ocean, b/c it is quite catchy - how about "Indian, Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific / and the Southern Ocean, to be specific/ we can name the seven continents and the five oceans..."

Maybe this is why americans are so thick - bad education. To begin with there are 5 oceans, you missed out the Antarctic ocean (also known as the southern ocean) and secondly by teaching children that Europe is the only continent not to begin with A, they bundle north and south America together, thus not classing them as two different continents, but rather as just America.

I promise we're not all thick! This is why I'm home-schooling my kids, though. Education in America today is NOT the same as it was even twenty years ago. If parents aren't in a good school district or aren't taking the initiative to further their kids' education at home, many kids will graduate barely literate. Education in America today is focused on warm-fuzzies and self-esteem. It has almost nothing to do with actual education anymore.
