I am seriously considering buying a MBP 15 inch for school/gaming. My biggest concern is with overheating. I have read that the MBP gets really hot and I am worried about it hurting the lifespan of the computer which will need to last me atleast 4 years through college. what is your experience with this while playing wow?

@13579ROFLCOPTER Hey, sorry for my late reply. I dont think the heat on the Macbook Pro is anything to worry about. Its meant to run that hot. It'll shut down before anything gets damaged. Ive never had the computer shut down on WoW before. It gets pretty toasty, but the fans kick in to cool it down. You can always limit the FPS to 30 (smooth) to lighten the load on the GPU. I remember someone told me the new MBP's are cooler (they just got a minor refresh.) If you have any more Q's PM me please

@13579ROFLCOPTER (forgot to add this in my last comment) I actually just recommended my brother the base 15" for college. So I honestly dont think the heat is a problem on the MBP. If I did, i wouldnt have recommended it for him :)

Hello iapplecentral, thank you for posting this video. I just purchased the base model 15 inch Macbook pro (winter 2011 version). Will you think this will be compatible at "good" to and up settings. I'm looking to get 30fps in very crowded areas.

@datCRUNKbuay Hello, thanks for your comment. I do think the base 15 inch MBP will be great. 30fps is probably exactly what you'll get...the MAY be some dips in to the upper 20's in very very crowded areas. Also, just a tip, you can probably get about 10-15 more fps in Windows 7 if you feel like you need it.

Hi! I'm planning to buy a new computer, and I was hesitating between both 15 inches MBP's. You have the better one with 1GB of GDDR5, but do you believe the one with only 256 MB of GDDR5 would suffice to play World of Warcraft Cataclysm on it? I mean, do you think it will be very good (as in no lags at ALL) in battlegrounds if I put my setting to fair/good and have no recording on? Basically, I'm just asking if I actually really need to spend 400 euros more just to play Wow with no lag, thanks!

@CoolPoireau World of Warcraft doesn't take all that much VRAM. I think on 256mb you should be fine considering your expectation is fair/good graphics...We also have an iMac with 512mb and it can run 25 man raids at around 25-30fps on ultra. Wow thank you so much for this video it's really informative and thanks for replying to the comments my question was coos question but with the 256 mb version would "high" settings be acquirable? I'm not a tech expert so that's why I'm asking :)

@DyingBrainCell Hey, no problem! I think high settings would be playable but in some crowded cities it may dip into the low 20's...which don't get me wrong, thats not bad...but below 30fps is when you start to notice a little bit of lag...but it will still defiantly be playable on high settings.

@gamershiz The video settings? Yes, sort of. We edited the files to make the fps higher by using the old OpenGL engine....however that ended up taking away some ultra settings....they are as high as they can go on the old OpenGL engine....you won't notice a difference....except in fps if you were to do this hack.

What about the similar model with 256MB on the GPU? I'm sure it wouldn't see huge performance shift, as WoW seems to be more processor intensive than anything. Anyway, anyone have any ideas on the difference?

@CooCurrent Dont think there will be a huge difference. We have actually compared that graphics card to the one in the base 27" iMac which only has 512MB of VRAM (which i think makes no since but anyway...) and found a difference of about 10 fps...so going by that i'de say you would have about 20fps less with the 256mb card...It will still be a fine graphics card to run WoW.
