There is a song by Beatles with a similar tune, I can't recall the lyrics. It was not often that S Rajeswara Rao copied tunes, at times the producer shows a strong preference for a popular tune and the music composer has to oblige. I do recall it to be a movie from 1970.
Got 2 versions to this story and it's due to conflicting information. IMDB claims the movie was made in 1965 but other sites claims it was done in 1970. Since the "L'amour est bleu" was made in 1967, this is an important question. Can one prove the date of when this movie was released???
@dlingam and saneman666 : This is the original song and this is copied as the famous L'Amour Est Bleu(Love is Blue)...This song was composed in 1965 in telugu whereas, L'Amour Est Bleu(Love is Blue) was done in 1967.....
I saw this movie when i was just 9. still this song is so mesmarizing. but i hate to listen to this song because in the movie the guy in this song, the loving husband of the girl gets killed.
What the fuck is this. Decent remake of the french tune L'Amour Est Bleu. But what the hell? These two are brother and sister? Why the hell are they acting like husband and wife?
@saneman666 they are not brother and sister in the movie. they are newly wed. her husband gets killed soon after and the scene is heart wrenching to lose the loving husband. and her brother had to tell her the news of her husband's death and believe me, it's like a real life story. i still remember how my dad cried when his sister's husband passed away.
@saneman666 . True it is a copy of the famous L'Amour Est Bleu(Love is Blue). I realized that very recently. Having said that, I enjoyed this song for 30 some years. If this was not copied, we all would have missed out on such a melodious tune. On top of that, there are probably millions of andhra people who did not and will not have access to "L'Amour Est Bleu". Just enjoy music. Who cares if it is copied. And as "meritoxoyo" said, they are husband and wife in the movie.
Many tunes in all Indian films were circulated and recirculated again and again.Quite often tunes were borrowed from outside India also. The fact that this song's tune was borrowed does not diminish anybody.Any way,I thought that the music director of this film was Goverdhan. But I could be wrong.
The song was composed by André Popp and was first sung by french singer vicky Leandros in 1967...then came the paul mauriat's instrumental version....
Are you sure that we copied it from Paul Mauriat ? I believe this movie was released in 1965 where as Paul made Love is Blue in 1970. May be Paul should give credit to this music director.
Though release dates are different from different sources....this is indeed a 70 movie. Since SPB debuted only in 67!Cannot completely discount inspiration from Paul. Controversy aside this was the time when SP was singing in his pure voice rather tham mimicry of later yrs. It was so sweet that i mistook it for PBSrinivas golden/lilting voice. After such a bright start quite why SP plumbed depths of mimicry for NTR/ANT/Allu is a mystery n tragedy!

Most popular songs in telugu were inspired by other languages- like this one.
Credit to the music directors who gave a native touch to it. Remember Vivahabhojanambu song in Maybazar- it is also inspired like this.

Agree it is a very sweet melody, but definitely stolen from Paul Mauriat's Love is Blue. Wish some credit was given to him
