As a Chinese born Canadian, I agree with Joyce in that the people who have been watching for a long time prefer the traditional operas. I was born in the 90s and I think if you have to add modern elements to opera, it takes away from it's appeal. It's like saying I don't like hot sauce, but to make it more palatable I'm going to add lots of sugar to make it not hot - ironic? I would like to see the preservation of Cantonese opera in its purest form with all the traditional music and actions.
