I'm a little embarassed to say that I saw the movies first, but still, tolkien opened up the world of fantasy for me and it has become one of the things that define me.
@lathandien also,but slavic was predominant....elfs, dwarfs, you have all that in slavic mythology not norse,besides that he used slavic names (Boromir,Faramir...)!! but all together its all mixed in middle world !
@kikiyoinuyasha He based the elvish races on several races and cultures in history. For example Sindarin bears very close resemblance to Welsh as do their looks, his 'Luthien' was a lady he fell in love with and his wife from North Wales. One race of Elves was linguistically based on the Icelandic people I think. I could be wrong though lol
Wunderschoen. Ich würde mir gerne die Soundtrack-CD's mit den neuen Stücken kaufen, aber ich habe einfach kein Geld dafür. :( Sie sind wirklich sehr teuer finde ich.
Tolkien always was partial to Finnish.

the 'silivren' sounded a bit like Pippin's song. the unusual intervals evokes the 'lothlorien' track from fellowship.
Very very nice, I like this very much!

@kikiyoinuyasha
To be fair, they are Tolkien's perfect race, so germans may well like to associate themselves with them.

@perstyr Actually I never associated myself with an elf ;)
DienerdesFeindes 10 months ago 3
@perstyr most of the Tolkien`s imaginarium came from the Slavic mythology not german
