years ago, many, he gave me great yoy with Genesis. Yhe magic is still there, maybe even more, as life goes by, not always easy far from soft. What a joy, thank you so mutch Peter
I believe that this is a glimpse of an alternate world where gabriel never left genesis, & they stuck to their progressive roots. It may sound crazy but for an orchestral piece this sounds very futuristic to me. The imagery of electric current flowing through an entity as it becomes something more beyond our understanding.....kinda reminds me of the starchild sequence off of 2001.
I hadn't heard the original, but I listened to this, then the original, and the other guys voice REALLY sounds like Peter Gabriel's in a lot of ways, the song actual fits Gabriel's voice. I am not sure how Gabriel is not a vocal match... lol I am not sure I like the arrangement here, but I did like the singing. :)
JUST Brilliant! Easily the best track on the album. I was listening to this walking in the train station and I just had to sit down. Also it has introduced me to the Original. Just a great great tune and Peter knew it. I look forward to checking out Elbo. This song is a life changer!
I agree with Radioactive Girl. I saw this at the O2 and it was so incredibly powerful that it made me cry. I love the Elbow version, but Peter Gabriel's performance of this song live at the O2 on Saturday was truly incredible. I bought tickets for my partner as a special treat. I didn't mind PG, but since that night I've been listening to him constantly.
sorry, i'm a purist - doesn't even come close to guy garvey's depth of feeling. i saw elbow sing it live at webster hall in NYC, and as much as i like Peter Gabriel, nope, the original is so much better.

I want this song to be played at my funeral.

I love Peter Gabriel, but I'm not thrilled with the orchestration of his version. It's a little jarring.

I love Peter and all, but the original Elbow version is still preferred, personally - Guy's voice is just so velvety-smooth.

I gonna go to buy the album now! ty Youtube and teodolite90 for upload!

Guy's voice sounds more natural to me, and I like his touch of accent.

Truly incredible version of a truly incredible song.

Eh... it's alright, but nowhere near as good as the original. Pete may be a legend, but he just can't capture what Guy did in singing this.

His voice do not suit the song. I suppose i could listen to it but it doesnt nearly bring me to tears like the original by Elbow.

boy the singer from Elbow sounds like him, it's amazing...

How cool that Gabriel is covering Elbow and not vice versa. (The Elbow version is realer, cleaner, more emotional)
suze2012 1 year ago
@suze2012 Actually Elbow covered Mercy Street in return. That's how Scratch My Back works, song exchanges.

I like the music very much. But vocally Peter is no match for Guy.

A brilliant song ruined by a man who apparently cannot sing without a comedy jamaican accent.
RandomGuitarist1 1 year ago
@RandomGuitarist1 A comedy Jamaican accent? Can't say I ever thought Gabirel ever sounded Jamaican comedically or otherwise...
thewordthatpierces 1 year ago
@RandomGuitarist1 I noticed that at the start too!

@RandomGuitarist1 what the hell are you talking about? pete gabe doesn't have a "comedy jamaican accent" at all.

Yeah, I'm an actual idiot.
Just posting my opinion, which is that personally, his voice does not suit this song at all. YMMV.
