My teacher is actually an employee of Disney, or was at one point. He may have even worked on LK:2 or even 1/12. I will ask him about Kopa this afternoon when I go to his class.
He didn't work on any of the Lion Kings, and one teacher did work on 1/2, but she didn't know anything about Kopa. In fact, she said that she was shocked that people looked so deeply into the cartoons.
It could be that Kopa was an unofficial character, or the books were unofficial, though that is up for speculation until asking someone who worked on the first two movies.
I know that the Lion King 2 was rather dark for a Disney movie, but I don't think it would be a good idea to kill Kovu, as he was a well-liked and well-accepted character. It is a possability tha Disney screwed up and Kopa was erased from existence. Disney and other animation companies have been known to make such mistakes. But I doubt Disney would explain why Kopa wasn't in the second movie, or explain if Zira killed him, as it would be too shocking for children to see the death of Simba's son

no......i thaught kopa was born at the end of lion king and zira killed him because he loved vitani and then simba and nala had kiara at the beginning of lion king 2 and that was why he is overprtective of kiara!

what i read from an article is that Zira killed Kopa resulting in her exile.
