  • Hearing this gives me chills... Especially the colossale part :D I've heard Horacio playing this many times, and it's so amazing still!

  • Simply amazing! Incredible touch. WOW! Thanks for the post.

  • Gutierrez + Prokofiev = PERFECTION

  • Gutierrez is by far the most sensitive interpreter of the prokofiev second concerto. Not even close.

  • Epic proportion! Incredibly brilliant! Bravo, Bravo Gutierrez.

  • 2:20 - 2:26 prokofiev not happy ....

  • Thank You very much!!! Nice performance !!!!

  • this guy is so low-key he should be like super famous

  • Damn this is impossible!! Gutierrez is not human! Best of the Best!

  • GUTIERREZ IS SO AWESOME!!! HANDS DOWN THIS IS THE BEST EVER ON YOUTUBE! WOW!!!!

  • Okay... uploaded it... Search for Vladimir Ashkenazy - Prokofiev - Cadenza

  • Brilliant, wonderful!

But... I think Ashkenazy's version is still #1. His performance is perfect, and all notes and chords are so... crystal clear. I also have the impression his rendition is more controlled.

Maybe, I should post it, so others can compare...

  • Oh, My God!!! Prokofiev lives! This is the best ever I have heard.

  • mind-blowing! wonderful! clap clap clap clap! :)

  • sincerament fantàstic!!!!!

  • UNBELIEVABLE, I CAN'T BELIEVE MY EARS.

  • Smoking hot cadenza! Gutierrez is nothing short of incredible. Unbelievably magnificent.

  • Supberb!!!! Spellbinding performance!!!

  • UMMMMMMMMM - Thanks. I am a big fan of all great performers... BUT, Gutierrez stands heads and shoulders above in this - sorry not even close. Gutierrez is absolutely, magnificent on so many different levels! Fantastic!

  • ...I generally believe that with this concerto the so called "wretched excess" is never a sin because the concerto IS about excess...but to the Gutierrez fans I say try out the Ashkenazy-Previn job here on the Tube...you might like it better than this...

  • Gutierrez's cadenza is legendary. His cadenza is the best ever on record!! I loved the entire fantastic recording. But, the post is about the cadenza!

  • I've just started learning this piece. I don't know whether to be inspired by this or to just give up ;)

  • My favorite piece of piano music ever, and the tempo on this one, though faster than what i'm used to is even more impressive.

  • Amazing playing.

  • People using "frightening" - it's the perfect word to describe this music. Sooo awesome.

  • @stabernz I had my girlfriend listen to the whole concerto the other day, and that's exactly the word she used to describe it.

  • Gutierrez is a beast! Him and Santiago Rodriguez - two monster Cubans!! HG's combination of power, speed and digital precision, makes this performance of the 2nd Concerto cadenza the most frighteningly awesome ever recorded.

  • I have a penchant for the grotesque and otherworldly noises the piano can offer. This Prokofiev cadenza is one of the most frightening musical moments I've ever heard, and of all the recordings this one is superlative. The arpeggio progression at 3:04 is at a bare minimum, completely earth-shattering.

  • This is the absolute best version of Prokofiev's 2nd, ever. I've never been able to witness any other recording or live performance with such total control and digital brilliance. It leaves all other recordings in the garbage.

  • Ultra orgasmic!!! its easy to imagine gutierrez smashing the poor pianoo!!

  • Great rendition. Which can be said about Bolet and Feltsman as well.

  • i hate to admit it but this is far better that any other version i've heard

  • This is the best interpretation of this cadenza EVER!!! Even better than Berezovsky, Ashkenazy or Kissin!!! Well...... I think (thumbs up ;D)

  • @cafity Ok! After hearing this version 1000 times and all the other versions on youtube and in lots of cd's, I don't think anymore that this is the best recording of this cadenza...... I am completely sure it is.

  • I have this recording. Absolutely love it; it's one of my favourite interpretations of this concerto.

  • This is just too much to bear....my G-d!

  • Far. Out.

  • Definitely my favourite recording, the clarity is there even at the most dense scoring, and from PP all the way to FFF you can still hear every nuance of the music. It also helps that almost all if not all the notes are in the right place. I second the oinion further down to get this on CD, it is simply stunning.

  • this cadenza was done so well, I was given the impression there was an orchestra in the background when there isn't!

  • ... moreover, everywhere here should try to get a real copy (original CD quality) of this recording. Shock and Awe at its finest!

  • This is my absolute favorite version of this monstrous work. Total control, extremely refined taste!

  • overwelming

  • this is as crystal clear as any artist has gotten. one of my fav versions next to Toradze's rather different/unique interp.

  • I think Gutierrez plays the 1st & 4th movement of this concerto like no other. Brava! Thanks for the post.

  • I wish that Gutierrez had recorded more of the "little-known-but-good" Romantic repertoire, and more Liszt. He is grossly under-recorded!! And under-rated?

  • He leaves the poor piano in smoldering ruins after this cadenza.

  • Música rusa con sabor latino. Horacio, creo que sabes resolver mejor que nadie esta difícil cadenza. Enhorabuena!!

  • please upload the rest of the concerto!

  • Very nice. I also like Bolet's performance of it also...

  • The performance of this cadenza by Horacio Gutierrez is the best version of it. Better than Kissin, Berezovsky, etc.
