i really wish she would've moved around the stage more.... and some of the moves and spins she did [while they might look pretty] didn't really seem to fit in with everything else..... and while i can deal with the shoes.. i think flats probably would've looked nicer.. but she can definitely move =]

ahh whenever I see or hear something like that i long for the time back when I visit beirut. Walkin down the boulevard, seeing the ocean, drinking strongest coffee ever and smoking waterpipe. Then...the mountain behind the city...best sunset ever... Lovely people, helpfull. The men made sure they are heard in their cars for the girls though...everytime they saw a blond girl...they had to push their horn....hahaha....best time ever...
I think her butt hanging out is a bit much and I would have liked to see her travel more and not be so spastic with her hand movements, but her hip movements and isolation is really great. Definitely well practiced.
I think she's quite good. Her arm movements show real sophistication. Shame about her shoes. Her skill would be better served if she danced in bare feet. Judging by her hair and shoes I'd day this is an old video.
Perhaps they are talking about the style; and yes, hip movements can come from the belly OR they can come from the legs. There are many kinds of hip/belly/shoulder movements, why close your mind to just one?
she was not relaxed very stiffy, bcz of the heels . for belly dance better to be bare foot then u can move easily. but she is great I imagine if she wasn't wearing those shoes

Lebanese (and many Turkish) dancers dance with shoes. It's also becoming fashionable for Western dancers to wear dance shoes on stage as well (eg. BDSS).
Lol all u ppl saying this isnt belly dancing dont know what u are talking about! I actually do belly dancing and there are actually many different styles of dance. This particular style she is doing is very hips orientated because she is dancing to a drum beat, and im sorry to say that belly dancing is a bit of a misleading name cos most of it does come from ur hips!!!
the movement of the hips usually comes from the belly though, sometimes from the legs, but most isolation is from the belly. that's why it's bellydance. most of the movement comes from the core.
Go to the side related videos and look at Sadie, the girl in the gold skirt. After seeing her and so many other amazingly technical dancers, this is amaturish at best.

Everone prefers bare feet because it is easier. It is much more challenging to dance in shoes. This dancer is great, but her shoes are awful. Hi heels can be so sexy, but they must be a high heeled gold or silver sandal if you want them to go with your belly dance costume. I remember when I was dancing in Turkey back in the early 90's, all the bellydancers were wearing pumps and they looked awful.
i tried to dance i high heals and it's easyer to me to dance in shoes but i still perfer bare feet cuz wearing high heals while dancing to me looks kind of sluty...no offence.
no they dont all wear shoes sorry. suheir zaki doesnt wear shoes when she performs and neither does fifi abdou. shoes in an optional thing. you cant say all real oriental dancers wear shoes :/
all oriental dancers that work in the middle east wear shoes the dancers you are speaking of are old egyptian dancers who have only ever worked in north africa. their time has passed they are old and slow and out of touch. they don't compete or compare with us lebanese dancers of today that work the big contracts in the middle east. the reality is that in the middle east(not north africa)dancers do and always have worn shoes and anything else is seen as inferior.

Lebanese and Turkish dancers have influenced the wearing of high heels today..I still prefer bare feet myself.
why call it an 'arabic' way to wear high heals as a belly dancer, when high heels haven't been around for so long. Arabic women have been bellydancing for way longer before the invention of high heels. Personally I prefer to see a bellydancer dancing barefoot. I see Dina dances a lot barefoot and she is arabic as well. For my personal taste I see high heels more as inferior than barefoot dancing.

I don't know if my comment went through already - anyhow I just wanted to point out that this is a Saidi dance, and it's offensive if you don't wear shoes. In Saidi culture, only the peasants and lower class go barefoot - a part of the dance is to show off your footwear.
also, want to add to your comment that, if it's offensive to dance barefoot, it would be better if dancers use the shoes without hills. when she stands on the hills, she cannot make many good stuff. somebody has mentioned that some motions r easier on the hills, but these r only SOME motions, not the most of them.
well im not an expert on belly dance even though i dont like being barefoot i think when a BD performer is performing it looks so much better in barefoot cause with the heels it looks just like a costume.. when you're barefoot you look more free...
Actually some moves are easier in heels. Try it. Belly dance isn't just "Goddess dance" where women try to get in tune with "Mother Earth" ... I would NEVER dance in a restaurant or unfamiliar setting WITHOUT shoes. I'm not interested in having my feet damaged by something on the ground.

Everone prefers bare feet because it is easier. It is much more challenging to dance in shoes. This dancer is great, but her shoes are awful. Hi heels can be so sexy, but they must be a high heeled gold or silver sandal if you want them to go with your belly dance costume. I remember when I was dancing in Turkey back in the early 90's, all the bellydancers were wearing pumps and they looked awful.

i tried to dance i high heals and it's easyer to me to dance in shoes but i still perfer bare feet cuz wearing high heals while dancing to me looks kind of sluty...no offence.

no they dont all wear shoes sorry. suheir zaki doesnt wear shoes when she performs and neither does fifi abdou. shoes in an optional thing. you cant say all real oriental dancers wear shoes :/

all oriental dancers that work in the middle east wear shoes the dancers you are speaking of are old egyptian dancers who have only ever worked in north africa. their time has passed they are old and slow and out of touch. they don't compete or compare with us lebanese dancers of today that work the big contracts in the middle east. the reality is that in the middle east(not north africa)dancers do and always have worn shoes and anything else is seen as inferior.

i'm a bellydance who works contracts all over the middle east and it is the custom everywhere to wear high healed shoes, just like a latin dancer would always wear shoes. it's the proper, arabic way to perform. all real oriental dancers wear healed shoes!

the history of Egyptian bellydancers not wearing shoes started with Samia Gamal the legend, she kicked off her shoes and danced bare feet, and from than on, all bellydancers from Egypt danced bare feet...apparently Egyptians love to see the feet of a woman... Lebanese and Turkish dancers have influenced the wearing of high heels today..I still prefer bare feet myself.

why call it an 'arabic' way to wear high heals as a belly dancer, when high heels haven't been around for so long. Arabic women have been bellydancing for way longer before the invention of high heels. Personally I prefer to see a bellydancer dancing barefoot. I see Dina dances a lot barefoot and she is arabic as well. For my personal taste I see high heels more as inferior than barefoot dancing.

I don't know if my comment went through already - anyhow I just wanted to point out that this is a Saidi dance, and it's offensive if you don't wear shoes. In Saidi culture, only the peasants and lower class go barefoot - a part of the dance is to show off your footwear.

also, want to add to your comment that, if it's offensive to dance barefoot, it would be better if dancers use the shoes without hills. when she stands on the hills, she cannot make many good stuff. somebody has mentioned that some motions r easier on the hills, but these r only SOME motions, not the most of them.

well im not an expert on belly dance even though i dont like being barefoot i think when a BD performer is performing it looks so much better in barefoot cause with the heels it looks just like a costume.. when you're barefoot you look more free...

Actually some moves are easier in heels. Try it. Belly dance isn't just "Goddess dance" where women try to get in tune with "Mother Earth" ... I would NEVER dance in a restaurant or unfamiliar setting WITHOUT shoes. I'm not interested in having my feet damaged by something on the ground.
