What they really need to do is place one camera on either side of the display and use the information it collects to place a virtual camera at the point where a face is detected. This wouldn't be 3D, but it would be realistic eye to eye contact with another person, instead of someone looking down at your chin because he's looking down at the screen which is below the camera.

You can actually do this without the tinted glasses. All you have to do is cross your eyes and you'll combine the two images

it's also software converting the 2 images into slightly red and slightly blue to make it compatible with the 3-D glasses
