Not sure when the term "shredder" came in....but Randy was unlike a lot of players I think. Sure he used hammer-ons and pull-offs too, but he sure did pick most of the notes....that not really an easy thing to do cleanly. RR was a master of it!
Instrumental-wise Quiet Riot was an awesome band ... I just can't get over Kevin Dubrow's singing ... It's a shame there's not good quality footage of Randy with Ozzy in concert.
theres none known to us fans, but i forgot the name of the arena but they had recorded (in high quality) every show from 1976 and ozzy and randy played there in 81 i think. so its all a big mystery. and the footage of randy and ozzyout there for us is : crazy train, i dont know, lil bit of believer, mr crowley, mother earth, steal away, and that over the mountain clip you saw.
well thats b/c his composistions were better with ozzy. see riot would surpress his ideas from tiem to time for being "too classical" or "not metal enough". ozzy told him write whatever he wants. i gaurentee you revalations (mother earth) and dee would never have been released with riot. thx to randy, classical-ish playing is metal \m/

elvisdustin 2 years ago
me too !! i told myself i was gonna do that when i first started playin. id say the hardest part of his live solo is the beginning 3 3
5 5 3 5 its hard to do if you try and do it how clean he did it. and another problem is finding a band that wants to play randy stuff ya know.

Bow Ties were his trade mark at the time. You'll notice that his polka dot V has them in the inlays.
