  • Probably the best version of this song... ever.

  • @campydoodles

A verrrrry good one, but Chuck Berry's remains unsurpassed, to me.

  • thats life,,,,enjoy

  • Goddam..Now this is Rock& Roll

  • Man this picks me up, it just oozes with soul!

  • Awesome... Steve Simpson is really earning his wages on this one - His voice is so big, you kind of doubt he even needs a mic...

  • heh heh good ol ron,,,and a sweet guy to,,,,,steve simpson, great artist in his own right

    oh how we miss ronnie,,,,,,,,,

  • great version!

  • He was so great if you have never heard him check is how come. The poacher and ooh la la you will be hooked fantAstic he led the small faces and the faces main man

  • Riotously Righteous Tune!!!

  • I worked for Ronnie Lane, first with the FACES then as his tour manager '74 - '77. This was the third version of 'SLIM CHANCE" circa 1975. The "lead" gutarist on the paisley telecaster is Steve Simpson - also played fiddle (in duet with Charlie hart), mandolin and was a great stage presence and a great singer. Charlie Hart is on piano. Ruan O'Lochlainne is on Hammond then sax. Brian Belshaw is playing bass on RL's original Balck Zemaitis bass. Colin Davies is on drums. I loved this live!

  • @urbiedurb1 Thanks for that! Must have been great times!

  • @urbiedurb1 Blimey! I'm sure you've a few good stories to tell! I've been a fan of Ronnie's work with the Small Faces but had never realised the stuff he had done after. I taped this performance off the OGWT when it was repeated a few years ago then lost it when i buzzed out my old video tapes. I think you can look back at this now and appreciate it – like a good wine, it matures with age. Wilko period Dr Feelgood, Nick Lowe, Ducks DeLuxe overlooked brilliance.

  • @urbiedurb1 That's fantastic, you must have a lot of great memories. Steve Simpson was great, as well as the rest of this particular setting of Slim Chance. It was great seeing all these wonderful musicians talk about Ronnie and Slim Chance in the great, great film The Passing Show. I'd recommend anybody to watch that documentary if you get a chance......

  • @urbiedurb1 Thanks so much for the info!! Wonderful, wonderful cover!!!

  • @urbiedurb1 You're a very lucky guy to have had that amazing opportunity to work with one of the all time greats. Well done, you must have some very special memories

  • Ronnie Lane and the band captured the spirit of zydeco in this version. RIP.

  • Ronnie - the one and only

  • ...what a great collection of musicians...all gathered by a master..

  • Hung with his daughter last night. She had some good stories about him

  • 2:32 love it!

  • Who is the Rhythm guitar player with the Paisley Telecaster?

  • @bddmhopp5 I think his names steve simpson

  • @bddmhopp5 Charlie Hart

  • @da324 Sorry, meant to say Steve Simpson. Charlie is the sax player.

  • @ACDCRD charlie isn't the sax palyer , they look alike but charlie is on piano.

  • AWWWWWWWWW RONNIE ,HOPE ALLS OK UP THERE ,,,AND YOURE LIVING THE POACHERS LIFE ,WITH JOHNNY CASH +BRIAN JONES ,,,ETC XXX

  • a great cover pure classic plonk!

  • ronnie has such a beautiful smile.

  • There was something about Ronnie Lane that has always made me think he looked a bit like he could be Joe Strummer's older, smaller, gentler brother.

  • hes not chuck berry, but god damn, he does he's job.

  • PLONK!

  • from Wiki: * Ronnie Lane – guitar, bass, vocals * Steve Simpson – guitar, mandolin, violin, keyboards, harmonica * Ruan O'Lochlainn – organ, piano, saxophone * Charlie Hart – violin, keyboards, piano, accordion * Brian Belshaw – bass * Glen LeFleur – drums * Jim Frank – drums

  • Looks kinda like Clapton on sax... i know it ain't but he's got that look. What is the line-up of this band?

  • Love this song! I have it on an album by Chuck Berry, but this is great too! Thanks for the post ♥

  • Two Great Ronnies,Lane and Dio! R.I.P

  • First class. Ronnie you are the guvnor. God bless x

  • Ronnie is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Trinidad, CO. Stop by and see where one of the original Mods is resting; he was a musical one of a kind. Mr. Lane left way too soon, but we do have his recordings.

  • very enjoyable

  • the days when we always jumped puddles

  • Well, I actually found a tutorial on youtube that shows how to convert youtube videos to mp3s, so I'm good now...

But, i will still hunt the good record shops for some Slim Chance-

Just got the Face's Long Player on vinyl...

  • @coltsever please show me how to do that, thanks kindly. Ronnie was great here in this vid.

  • BRILLIENT!

  • Anybody know where to get Ronnie Lane mp3's-

All the original recordings are out of print and REALLY expensive on Amazon...

  • @coltsever

    What are you after?

  • @coltsever I saw in a documentry about Ronnie Lane that he was in financial troubles in the 70s. The story is he only had 8 rolls of 2" recording tape. So he would record an album, have it printed up, and then erase the tapes!! so he could record new material. So in essence there are no masters to re-issue his music on CD. The Small Faces, the Faces catalogs and the Rough Mix CD with Townshend are the only things available I believe.

  • Hi @rto254425. Thanks for the negative comments... ! What is the point you are trying to make about Ronnie Lane??

  • @80620ash tell me what was negative! The point I was making and answering the question as to why his solo stuff had not been reissued. its because he taped over the masters. he could not afford to buy new recording tape. I personally wish they could reissue his stuff on CD. re reading my post i don't any negative comments, so i don't know what your problem is.

  • Sorry rto254425. I misunderstood you. Thanks for the reply explaining your comment, and please accept my apologies...:)

  • @80620ash no worries.

  • @rto254425

????? ~ you can get all of Ronnie Lane's output on CD... and a lot more besides.

  • great performance-- this song, it's great when people nail the harmony like in this version.

  • magic stuff

  • Ronnie Lane's music always brings a bit of sunshine to your day

  • What a great song and voice. RIP Ronnie,

  • A lovely performance by a fab musician.

Ronnie Lane was the great soul in both Small Faces and The Faces.

  • what a great talent, infectious smile and always havin' a good time!

  • Great vocalist! Never knew he was that good, kinda in Marriot's shadow early on.

  • I love it.

  • OH,MY! this is just too good! They ROCK!

  • This is all you need to feel better after a long bad day. One of my favorite clips on youtube!

  • @hansieh: I couldn't agree more! It's infectious!

  • Ronnie was just so,so good! Give it some,my son.

  • what was/is the OGWT?

  • It is the Old Grey Whistle Test, a BBC television programme from the 70's & 80's. Some performances are available on DVD,s avaliable in most record shops, or from the BBC website.

  • Just my favorite feelgood song on YouTube

  • @YouDoubtTheOz : It's incredible, isn't it!? Seeing this prompted me to rediscover the song and learn it on the guitar! Chuck wrote this beauty, but Ronnie breathed life back into it----awesome!

  • Hey feel the talent of this performance...get it right up you x factor twats!!!

  • no one can ever beat his version of Irene

  • It is great .. and obvious .. who made the Faces .. rool & Rock ... Ronnie ... Rod & co were lucky to have this man in their band ,.,.. thanks for posting

  • right on lescot.........clearly he was the heart and soul of the Faces, I Love the Faces but they just weren't the same after Plonk left......

  • My heart cries when I learn that Ronnie Lane is no more...! My God ..what talent! RIP Ronnie. I know that you are entertaining all in heaven with your great music. May your soul rest in eternal peace.

  • I often think in my mind of a dream band how he would have fit as the 5th beatle or a rolling stone? he is such a talent he truely brought the best out in anyone he played with someone not to be forgotten by millions.

  • Good God! Ronnie Lane was soo special! Such a sweet voice, melodic player & such a gentle dispostion on stage! He suffered such indignities within the music world & died in such a sad sad way, yet he never lost his wit, grace or class. Ronnie Lane sparkled on a stage just being there, like a rare gem in a spotlight. He was one of kind - like Marriott & he had that gypsy spirit like him too! I hope he's resting "under dreaming spires". Plonk is in my heart now & always - shine Ronnie!.

  • Anyone else hear a little Rockpile vibe in there somewhere?

  • Who's the dude with the paisley?

  • DO YOU MEAN STEVE SIMPSON?
