The forge/tool marks add character to the knife. Agreed that if someone doesn't like it, Fuck Em'! Let them make their own. Thanks for all the great vids!
This is so cool! I'm a survivalist also and was trying to get ideas to make oyster knives! I work for csx so spikes are not a problem. Keep on keeping on and plan on watching more of your videos!
@edwyrd As an OIF/OEF vet, I would carry that on my vest any time in combat. I packed a hand made pig knife on my left shoulder from the MS Delta (home) for 6 months in Iraq at Balad Air Base..Craftsmanship commands respect. and that is top flight work sir.
Ed, sure like the railroad knives you made, I haven't check all your videos but would like to see some on hardening and tempering. The way you present topics and explain things, it would make for an informative and learning experience. Keep on forging THANKS TONY G.cougarman07470
Hey Ed just a thought why dont you do a youtube auction for the knife and send the proceeds to your favourite charity, maybe give a free smithy lesson to the highest bidder as well, really enjoy the vids here in Ireland keep em comin.
Great job on both the knives. The blacksmith marks give these babies character. I feel that they look real decent. Tempering and an edge brings these gems to the finished state. Keep up the neat video's. It's very entertaining to watch you work and to learn your technique's.
I don't think the battery companies are filling them up with a full charge. One of the things that I noticed, when I started buying nothing but rechargeable batteries, is that the rechargeables LAST LONGER than the other ones do, I put more electricity in them, than the battery companies do.
I plan on picking up the Harbor Freight sander next payday, and might as well pick up the 2 inch sander as well. And I can see that I am going to need a grinder.
Man I am diggin these Vids. Not to get off coarse but you have all the characteristics of an ol'tymin blacksmith that I enjoy. The beard, the anvil, the swearin. Its all great. Cool knives...keep the vids up.
tht is the sickist looking shank ive ever seen (the second one) i fell in love with it, i hope i can do your contest best prize i think ive ever seen on youtube :) will u be able to ship across countries ? im living in switzerland but national english
Great video those are great knives and I like the rustic look, I 'm happy to see someone actually making something by their own hand. I'm kinda inspired to take up the trade myself from your vids. Thanks
Great video, don't worry about those safety nazi's crap, they do everything in a plastic bubble, so they can't do anything.
I like the knives with the hammer marks etc. , it tells a story, something many knives that are made don't tell anymore. A mirror polished knife is very shallow but a knife with hammer marks has got good story and character which will last for ever.
Great work and videos, and keep continueing this, we may just take the upper hand, people want one of a kind products again
Its looking good Ed, can't wait to see it behind my bar. The prize knife looks fantastic just the way it is. Hell there both perfect. I'm going to have to win your contest so I can have that one too.
Great teachings Brother! Thank you! You smoke like I do, I knew they were Pall Mall Blue! The only cigarette that burns so slow you have to keep relighting!
This video wasn't dangerous enough, we gotta get you juggling the knives in between grinding or something. Let the safety sally's go play with themselves in a padded room. Awesome work my friend! When you make things yourself you are always your own biggest critic, I'm sure the winner would proudly display it!
The things you see as imperfections are just the blades character! You wouldn't want to take away their character would you? Anyhow, thanks for the vids!!
Hell yes it's good enough. You're the craftsman... it's your knife. An artist/craftsman is always his own worst critic. That's just the way of things.
My wife, who is wiser than I, taught me that when someone compliments my work to just say "thank you". Anything else belittles your effort and insults the person's judgment.

Hey Ed, Try the pawn shops for cheaper priced tools. Always make a counter offer to what they ask for them.

They're both beautiful knives in my opinion!
the contest knife reminds me of a pirate dagger (?)
On a different note, do you have a wire wheel? I've found that those are the best for removing rust and carbon from tools i have.
Anyways, great vid, i hope the contest goes well.
