To all that say he is cleaning the barrel wrong.. explain to me then why SA gives you a Barrel brush that doesn't come apart??... jesus. Blind leading the blind.
yea i bought a sprng. xd full size 9mm cause it was cheap and i didnt know if i was going to keep a gun or if i would really like it..needless to say i enjoy it alot. i go to the range every week and i have bought another gun. my point is that i fired my friends 1300 dollar kimber and it jammed no less than 15 times.! ive had this gun for 6 months fired the worst russian ammo and that fed stuff, which turns out to be very reliable range ammo and i have never had jam.
2 problems with this gun; 1. The clip bottom sticks out too far, making it difficult to put this gun in your pocket 2. XD clip latches inside the handle tend to wear out way too fast I had a Taurus sub compact 9mm that fit into my pocket smoothly, and it fired well, no jams.
i shot my shit in the car once on accident , i hate that theres no safety . and to top it off the muthafukin casing jamed while ejecting ... then i was like fukit , aimed at my grass and unloaded the bad boi.. but i still cant figure out y the casing jamed> ?????
HUNDRED OF THE CHEAPEST SHIT I COULD FIND " FEDERAL 9 MM 115 GRAIN. " AND I DIDNT HAVE ANY ISSUES. EASY TO KEEP ON TARGET. I ALMOST GOT A GLOCK BUT WHEN I TRIED THE SUB COMPACT OUT I LIKED IT BUT FELT IT WAS A BIT SHORT. WHEN I TRIED THE 4 INCH I WAS REALLY SURPRISED. AND FOR 498 USD WALKING I FEEL I GOT A GOOD DEAL.
not trying to tell you everything, and you are my very first comment after years of watching, but you need to hold the slide with the firing pin up so when your cleaning it all the small particles and debris dont roll back into with the solvent, the way youre cleaning it your allowing all the dirt to go back into the action of the slide????
@zfunishere1 They make this gun with a 5", a 4" and a 3" barrel. The 4" barrel with the compact concealed carry magazine is considered the compact XD. The 3" barrel with the short concealed carry magazine is considered the sub-compact.
This gun also comes in three calibers, the .45, .40 and 9mm. I recommend the 9mm for the subcompact and compact grips to keep the recoil managable.
Despite what some of the idiots below have stated, i thought your video was good. I love my XD9 SC. I also clean mine in a similar fashion. SomasTube, you're an idiot.
That's the extent of your comment? If you think the video needs to be corrected, speak up. What about this method is incorrect?
If you're another one who thinks the bore brush should only be pushed through the chamber end, keep the comment to yourself. A back and forth motion is not going to damage the crown.
It isn't the bore brush that is wrong; it's your timing of its usage. You should begin a bore cleaning by running patches & solvent through the bore. This removes first layer residue, rather than transferring it to the bore brush and your bottle of solvent. After the patches & solvent, then use the bore brush & solvent. Then follow up with more patches & solvent.
hey man I heard if u dont have a gun registered and u try to register u get in trouble is that true well even if its clean cause u can get them cheaper that way anyway but yeah thats a nice gun
Every gun anyone ever takes to register is an unregistered gun when they arrive. Where do you live that you need to register the firearm? Email me with more details.
Of course it is, that is how the gun was designed to operate. Think about it, when you fire the gun, there is an exposion, the gun slide gets knocked back by the force of that explosion, and then slams forward. Which do you think would harm the gun between the two?
If the gun was at risk of damage from dropping the slide, it would almost certainly explode the first time you shot it.
Thanks for watching/commenting. Any other questions, feel free to comment or email.
CureForIgnorance, you're correct, it is designed to slam forward like that; however with the resistance of the advancing round. Although it will not damage your weapon, it's usually advised to slowly advance the slide when empty. (if you baby your handguns)
It is not designed to drop the slide when you are taking it down, you're making the sear stop that slide, NOT GOOD! You certainly wont catch me doing that to mine.
When I first uploaded this, youtube wasn't supporting widescreen format. I still have the original widescreen file. If I could simply replace it (keeping the # of views and comments) I would.
Thanks for the comment though. All future take-down videos will be in widescreen format.
Nice video, one question though. Is it OK to use a brass brush on the xd barrels? I know both mine came with a nylon (black) brush so thought that was all you can (or are supposed to) use.
@jtodd900 I think the metal brush you're referring to is a bronze brush, a bronze brush will do a better job of cleaning the barrel (works better on copper fouling) and they're safe to use on an XD.
The XD-9 is my first semi-automatic, so this video was VERY helpful. Thank you! I could have done without the fast-forwarding, but that's me speaking as a total newbie. It was still a very helpful video!
My father said that using oil in the barrel will cause buildup that could "obstruct the barrel and cause a blow-back pressure", and the sound you hear is me sliding the barrel back into place in the slide.
Who has time? A basic cleaning takes all of 5 minutes. While an independent tester did fire over 5,000 rounds through an XD without cleaning and without malfunction, I prefer to keep a clean weapon. I don't want powder working to corrode something I'm going to depend on for my life. Unless you go to range daily, I don't see the validity in your complaint. If that's all you have to gripe about in this video, why even post?
As far as the production goes, I thought the fast forward bits were fine, helped keep the video from being too long. My only thought is that they do disrupt the conversation that you're having with the viewer so maybe extending the vocal track over the ff scenes would help with the continuity.
That's a good tip. I'm still playing around with the editing software. Shortening the video was my main motivation for fast forwarding so I'm glad you think it helped.
The 9mm is about a .36 caliber which you wouldn't think would make that much difference in recoil, but it does. Especially with compact and subcompact pistols like the XD which have shorter grips, that reduced recoil makes the firearm much more manageable.
i have to choose between a od green xd40 sc (only .40 the shop has left) or a bunch of black xd9 sc's-you feel the recoil difference is significant? I like black better and have yet to ever shoot in .40 cal, but in 9mm i am experienced. Thanks for the vid and great work!
What did everyone think about the fast forwarding bit? Was that good? Should I not do that on future videos? Should I add fast music to that portion? Lol. Let me know.
Yes.. Fast forwarding worked fine.. perhaps could have done a little more explaining on what you were doing to the recoil spring before fast forwarding through that.. but it worked out great..
I'd be more than happy to... if I owned one. The MKII (mark two) is a great gun, the fixed barrel and sights make it very accurate and a lot of fun to shoot. If I remember right, I know a trick to make reassembly easier, but that may be an MKI I'm thinking about. I'll see if I can't find one here in the next month of two to make a video on.
Shouldn't you also oil the slide rails?

Its necessary to apply a light coat of oil every time you clean the gun. This light coat of oil helps keeps parts moving as well as prevents rust.
