  • Excellent vid! How do you know when to put the lid on. Color of smoke (blue)??

  • I have been looking for a simple straight forward method to produce charcoal and I have tried a few with mixed results. But your method is the best I have yet encountered. Thanks for the vid. Keep up the good work. Dave

  • Old school method in making charcoal coal, I tip my hat, Well done...

  • ah very good, slightly differnet way that we do our burn. we stack the drum to just over the top with smaller diameter wood, then light it fromt he bottom as we have holes drilled. then exclude all the air when smoke has turned. nice link!

  • Sandy Soil !! didn't she have a few hits in the sixty's ? anyway , good video Toni , I do many of the things you do ..I like the old ways . I hope your videos inspire people to have a go too

  • Nice video tony. Is that sand or soil ou are lodaing on the lid and around the base?

    Cheers

    Ollie.

  • Thanks for your comment. It is sandy soil

  • really nice video, thanks for showing,

  • My pleasure, glad you enjoyed it !

  • Wicked method !

I first did it this way in Thailand and also in the ground. This way is perfect.

  • i wish i could do wat u do....

  • Hello Toni, what is the time frame of this?

Burn one day, cool over night or a day or two?

    Pat

  • What you need to do is make sure the fire is completely out - 24 hrs is OK!

  • Another awesome video! Can you please provide for us the general time line for the process (burn start to O2 shutoff to dirt on top of barrel (why was that done?) to completion? Thanks. And I love the B&W quality and tone of the video. Very Nice!!

  • Apologies but I do not have the time to give you a lesson. The basics are to get a good fire going, load, restrict airflow, burn off excess moisture, cut off all air supply and wait 24hrs to unload. Good Luck.

  • Thanks for that info. I'll do more research and experiment myself. Just wanted to tell you that after I viewed your videos about 2 weeks ago, I went out in the yard and started trying to make simple, rough wood items like mallets and simple wood handles for tools and I will continue to try and refine what little talent I have as I learn and experiment more. You are an inspiration. Thanks again.

  • Nice vid, nice music. Can't get any simpler than that, a drum with holes and dirt!
