@jaguar4u2012 Ashman was the lyricist for this, "Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin." And Orbach was the voice of Lumiere in this and Saluk in "Aladdin and the Forty Thieves.".
@jaguar4u2012 They are. Ashman died of an AIDS infection in March 1991 and "Beauty and the Beast" was released November of that year, hence the dedication in the credits. Orbach died from prostate cancer in December of 2004.
Love this version of the english end credits, and the full-stop memorium to Howard Ashman at the end of the credits roll. We just bought the newer, Bluray DVD version of this movie and the end credits roll does not stop at the memorium to Howard Ashman, but rather keeps rolling (crediting Digital Restoration, or something like that). Sad. Always liked that the credits-roll stopped and paused on the tribute to Howard, and then just faded out. What we producers call an "obit fade" --an honor.
@jvfunn3000 They were truly great actors. This movie was proof that they were meant to play those character! it was a great movie. I miss them. they were great!
The best cartoon movie song ever made (and probably that ever will be made). DAMN Disney, what happened?! The Disney Renaissance era (1989 - 1999) gave us not just the best cartoon movies that will ever be made, but also some of the best movie music too. This one along with "Strangers like me" (Tarzan), "Can you feel the love tonight" and "Circle of life" (Lion King), Reflection (Mulan), A whole new world and many more, were the best!
Today its just Hannah Montana and the rest of the gang...
I didn't really like the way some Disney worlds in the Kingdom Hearts games were copied and pasted from their movies, but it really wouldn't have hurt to include Gaston in KH2. His absence from KH2 was a real let down for me.
I don't care that Disney cartoon movies, and others cartoon movie that are for kids. No matter if you are too old for it. They are gonna keep on going to become one of those timeless classic of masterpiece over the year. When we have on heart about those movies. Good days in the 90's and 2000's.
When making this movie, everyone and everything involved with it had to keep coming back and forth to Howard Ashman in NY. Everyone wondered why Howard couldn't just come to them. They figured that he was too busy to travel. Alan Meken was the only one who knew the truth. It was far into production that Howard revealed to everyone else that he couldn't come to them because he was too sick to travel, he was dying from AIDS. When they heard that, they became completely supportive of coming to him.
i think animation deserves a lot of credit that the crap it gets from people. look at the work it's been put into. look at the list. it's just so incredible
I was born 1991 ^^ He really was a master to do such beautiful work <3 R.I.P <3 These masterpieces are more than just some art och some music, this is history in the breath! I'll definitely show my future kids these movies 'cause they are something you just have to see <3
@jvfunn3000 Yep, he died 6 months before this movie premiered. The whole cast and crew were VERY sad that he get to enjoy this movie's success with them. Howard would've been so proud of this movie and he would've also had been very proud of the Broadway musical of this movie, too.
It was pretty sad that he died! He did an excellent job with his work on The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. He was a MUSICAL GENIUS! R.I.P. HOWARD ASHMAN 1950-1991!
One thing I cannot find. Who did the beautiful narration at the beginning of the film? My first guess was Alan Rickman but cannot find a credit anywhere. Any assistance would be deeply appreciated.
Wow I did'nt know that Tony Anselmo who went on to voice donald in DuckTales and Quack pack and still does the voice of Donald was an animator for Disney as well as Tim (The Tool Man BuzzLightyear) Allan
