It´s a shame how obsessed Harnoncourt during the 1980´ies was by his unsensible Marsch-Bläsermusik-Corps, so oft drowning song soloists as well as other instruments. Do you ever hear violins in this oratorium or in his later cantatas when the wind section is turned on?! Anyhow here, after being subdued in the start, Holl and Schnellert finally get through a bit. Possibly the sound engineer woke up and changed the balance?

Christian Schnellert is the boy soprano, Robert Holl the bass, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt the conductor, with the Concentus Musicus Wien. Christian can be seen in a performance of Dido and Aeneas as one of the witches on Youtube as well where he is identified in the credits.
