That's my hometown. Still living there today. The bakery you talked about briefly is my fathers home now. He bought it years and years and years ago. It was hit by hurricane gustav and it knocked the wall down on the side and he rebuilt it. I just started watching your videos and I'm still going through them haha. On to the next video!
I love all those huge old trees you've got down there. I've heard the Mississippi is called the Big Muddy. I guess it's not for swimming then. That little Cajun town was cool. It looks like something out of a movie. Thanks for filming all this.
Louisiana's a beautiful state with a rich history like all the south .I love those live oak trees.I went to New Orleans on my Honeymoon in 1970 and we toured some of those old Plantations. This 1K video was a great choice and well done J.B.
Hey JB, Enjoyed the video thanks for taking me along! Say I have a question. Why are the houses built up on a foundation instead of just built on the ground? Take Care!
@skoggit Back in these small towns they didn't have concrete batch plants, (had ask my Dad) it was cheaper to buy concrete blocks (At the general store) & build the houses on cypress timbers up off the ground. They all had at least 9ft ceilings, no AC systems, maybe a oscillating fan. They opened the windows, front n back doors & the house would stay cool from the breeze blowing. When they built stores or other large structures they'd erect a small batch plant on site to make concrete on site.
@XMike30X No boy! We got whirly birds down here now. Once apron a time you could drive all over the levees.
We used to test our jumping skills on dirt bikes by hauling ass up one side & see how far you could fly over the top to the other side. Bought killed my ass doing that shit.
Love seeing Louisiana this way! (watched it twice). I like the little extras you share. This was a great subject for your 1000 video - thanks for sharing JB!
That barge was hauling some ass. Don't think I've been on a ferry that moved that quick. Pretty precise docking, too, for that much boat.
Great road trip, Boy. I love the old plantation architecture, and the history that even those little old box houses hold. And that old hearse goes WAY back.
Thankee kindly for taking us with you, and for not even asking us to split the gas.
And congrats on 1000! It's a major milestone, and represents a LOT of work.
@anmoose New Orleans is the oldest city, Baton Rouge isn't as old & Plaquemine is even newer. I'll do a Baton Rouge tour of more scenic & historic areas soon. Yeah the ferry was in warp drive. The river is over a 1/2 mile wide down there. Landing to landing took about 5mins. The ferry was going against the rivers current too.
Did dat red beans and rice and chocolate pie party and we simply did not have enough...it was really good;gonna do that chocolate cheesecake on Monday and will follow your recipe and I thinking I better make at least 2.....
Thanks for all of your videos and your steadfast spirit to show the world the beautiful food and country of LA.
That boat well over 100 foot long, JB. Won't you be my neighbour? I had a 5 pound blue lobster today. Treated myself. It was fantastic. I bought it feet within our cantilever bridge. If ya want I can make some video for ya JB, since yer my new neighbour. Congrats on 1000 JB. Well done, boy!
@BeeRich33 We just guessed at the boat size It may have been 100 by 40 I aint sure. Its operated by the LA DOTD. in the old days Ferry's were the only way to cross the river. I remember the one in Baton Rouge was a steam powered side paddle wheeler. This was before the bridges were built
I did`nt see one person walking LOL people do live there right HA HA HA thats some old school living in some of those homes WOW if you could imagine , I sure like your B_______ack yard nice vid JB , As of yesterday most of our towns and cities are 144 yrs old .
Thanks for taking us on this tour! I love road trips and exploring new towns and scenery. Never been to LA so I really enjoyed this. Congrats on 1000.
Didn't realise you lived in Red Stick! Learned a few new things about the area I call home. BTW, the Cabin is a fantastic place to eat, their cornbread is like cake!
Good stuff. Saw a lot of places I hadn't seen in a while. On down I 10 westbound there was a truckstop that had a live tiger in a pen outside. You know if hes still out there?
