  • You are sooooooo right! It's sad that these youtubers would do that too considering that they probably have plenty of subscribers, or even just one, that look up to them for advice on things or there opinion on products and it's not fair that they are being fooled.

  • You're crazy. But it's ok. You're not the only crazy nut out there :)

  • that's just the way it is. money changes everything. and i don't see a big difference in a youtuber promoting a product they are not convinced of and a model that walks the catwalk in uncomfortable, ugly clothes that she would never buy herself. it's a job you do and it's a role you play. there is no black and white. we are being influenced by advertisement all the time, and mostly we don't even realize it.

  • "That would be so bad for my brand". That's all ppl care about these days just building their brand. Ugh...

  • The world is not perfect and some people may or may not do what you say. On the other side of that coin you can also view it like food critiques. They try food but they don't have to say it is good because they are being paid to give their opinion. It is their job to distinguish between good and bad. I do believe money in general is another variable that may change the intentions and motivations of people. However, I believe it all depends on the person.

  • I think that these are subjects that shouldn't even be made into a huge deal, at least not enough to make a video about it. Venting and expressing your own opinions I can understand it's your own channel you can do as you please but stating that you aren't bashing on anyone doesn't negate the fact that you sort of are. I really liked your videos, I supported you from the beginning but lately it's either a bash here or an insult there or just something negative and you always seem angry. Hmm :/

  • @AdOrAvAnG i always seem angry? i have been angry in some of my videos, but I wouldn't say I am "always" angry. and there are so many people who do these videos, so how would i be attacking anyone in particular? I was making a joke, comparing it to prostitution, but the similarities are there. I just want people to be aware of this, in case they weren't.

  • @mishy5990 plz don't attack anyone on Youtube in particular. i don't want this to be a bullying forum :)

  • Totally agree. The minute you bring money into the equation, it warps the outcome. There should never be a financial gain for simply putting a video on youtube. It totally defeats the entire point. It just becomes one big commercial.

  • u so look japanese r u japanese?:D

  • Damn who the hell gets $5000 for a video!? I agree I hate sell outs but I don't think too many people make that much money for a video... But I only want to see reviews on things people actually like. Also hate when people have 50 annoying giveaways it's so desperate!

  • @chicachew lol i have like 50 giveaways... i guess i'm desperate :( but at least i don't make u spend ur money :)

  • Daisy, I love hearing your take on things in the Youtube Beauty Community, so I'll add my $0.02. I think comparing Youtubers who engage in the behavior you describe to prostitutes misses the mark, but I agree with the sentiment behind your words. I've been watching beauty videos since 2008 long before most gurus started at all or at least before the majority sold out. I simply don't watch the videos of those who are obviously disingenuous or who I find anti-intellectual and even manipulative.

  • Like Fhenry said, "do what you believe in". If they really believe in the products, and they happen to be getting paid for it, I don't see a problem, as long as they aren't SEEKING to be paid. If like you said, they are LYING, that is the problem. If its all about making a product and not really helping women get the BEST products for them, that is the issue. So I understand what you mean. I also believe that it is really important to worry about yourself though, and not judge others. =)

  • do what you believe in

  • Another thing that bugs me is the sigma codes they promote. They tell you about 10% off and to use a certain code which is theirs. There all affiliates and get paid everytime someone uses there code. More money in their pockets

  • I think if u like the product is great then I dont see a problem! Even if u dont like something someone else might BUT if it is not good for u I dont think u should do it just because u get paid!

  • I understand where you are coming from-it seems to me that one can make the choice to be paid or not. And, for those of us who subscribe/watch, it's up to us to make that choice also. I just started doing videos (age 68) am not sure what I would say if approached to endorse a product geared for my stage in life. I DO know that I would have to make it perfectly clear that I was being paid and also would have to have the understanding that I could give an honest answer - good or bad. patti

  • did you really mean you are getting $5,000 for every 1,000 views on this video? who is paying you this and do you get that much for every video?? you mentioned $20-$30 per thousand views as an example. just wondered why the giant difference?

    thanks

  • @mekiwi1001 i was kidding

  • This was informative. I always wondered how people make money on Utube.

  • D.A.I.S.Y!! It's a vicious world out there and you tubing is a quick scheme to getting rich for anyone. The whole concept of you tubing is to display your talents, creativity and expressions whatever gimmick it might be. I think you thought of it as a sell out versus earning something repaid for your talent. I could go into more in depth but, it's only the media.

  • working = prostitution... lame

  • I can see that making YT sales/endorsement videos for a sponsored product goes against your grain. Perhaps you feel the practice is disingenuous and don't agree with YT being used as a marketing vehicle. That said, comparing niche marketing to prostitution IMO misses the mark considering prostitution is illegal in most places and a health risk. What if you were to be paid for product placement without making any claims? Subtle but known to work. It then becomes a matter of degree.

  • AS LONG AS THEIR REVIEWS ARE TRUTH NOT JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE BEING

PAID OR SPONSORED THEN THEY WILL JUST SAY GOOD THINGS RATHER THAT THE TRUTH ABOUT THE PRODUCTS! SO MANY GURUS LIED ABOUT PRODUCTS,THAT'S WHY SO MANY VICTIMS VIEWERS GET HOOKED ON THEM! BUY THIS TRY THIS,IT IS SO GOOD BUT HEY IT'S NOT! UR WASTING MONEY!

  • i understand where you're coming from... but it has nothing to do with prostitution. it's more like selling out. you should look up lacigreen's video on legalizing prostitution. but i agree with the fact that gurus sell out hardcore.

  • While I think people get paid way too much to make YT videos...I don't think making a video for money is any different than an actor promoting a product in a tv commercial.

  • haha i saw this on your facebook..the message they sent you. like 50 dollars per 1000 views.

  • it annoys me when they advertise random shit lol i understand they wanna make money but really i guess thats the cool thing to do i mean Kim k does the same crap lol

  • *any thing she slings

  • I agree I think @allthatglitters21 is the biggest you tube ho ever!!! It like sure I will say your product is the best ever. I never buy anything slings

  • I agree with you 100%! being sponsored takes the point of youtube, and i don't watch reviews anymore because half the time they're not truthful, but i am glad to know that you think this :D xx

  • Love your honesty & I agree with you! I do sales (a specific company brand), but if I've never used the product before then I couldn't recommend it. If I didn't like the product & felt it didn't do what it says it's suppose to do, I would tell the truth. It's about integrity...sadly, lots of people sell their integrity for large amounts of money. Stick to your guns girl!! You're one of the real people on YT & I'm enjoying viewing your videos!

  • Money is Money... no matter what way you get it..

  • You're great! And I completely agree with everything you've said. I think people will realize when gurus are being sponsored and will stop trusting their opinion, and in turn will stop watching their videos. Staying true to yourself is more important than being bought!

  • Some people do it for the money some don't I mean u can tell who can and who can't if they get paid that's a plus your doing something u enjoy youtube'n to get paid for it ur turning it into a career alot of people do things we don't agree with but that's them and u are u don't mind their business I think comparing it to prostitution is harsh me personally maybe they wanna further their career into television their own tv show or something (my opinion)

  • @rosiiev89 yeah i agree, the comparison to prostitution is harsh; i just thought the analogy was related. i don't have anything against people on youtube creating businesses and promoting products. however, i have problems with people telling youtube viewers "an amazing product" and influencing subscribers' wallets because of a fat paycheck or something like that. that's what i have a problem with

  • THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME. Thank you for saying this

  • oh ya.. and at the same time.. i think they only do positive reviews on products they geniunly like.. and the products they don't like they just let it sit around with no review.. I mean i would love to hear about a product that they dont like.. instead of having us spend money they should help us save money lol

  • This is so funny.. my bf and i were just talking about this subject haha.. not really saying anything bad.. but we were just saying how its crazy how much people make on youtube and in how many different ways they get paid.. especially when there are so many "homeless" people on the streets now a days =.=

  • sooo true ! i love how honest you always are <3

  • this video DESERVES thousands of views!

  • Word!

  • I agree you gotta be careful who you watch on YouTube and have an open mind when buying a product. Also if you are buying say a beauty product always check the stores return policy so just in case it does turn out to be a dud you can return it.

  • I agree with you. I recently bought the TI flatiron set because anothet guru said she uses it every other day and her hair is gorgeous and it looks healthy. When it comes in the mail it better be all she said it was plus we got 50% off for being her subbies.

  • i would love to get paid to promote videos..$5000 is alot of money just for making a video on youtube..but i dont agree with lying and putting a product up high when it doesnt deserve it..then its fake and selling out..if i were a guru or whatever i would do sponsered videos but i would use my honest opinions..i wouldnt want someone telling me how good a product is and when i but it, its crap..so yea i agree and disagree at the same time..nice video btw!

  • like i don't want to sound like a bad person because i somewhat i agree with you but have you thought of commercial actor/actresses they sign up for it like maybe but i'm not sure the "youtube prostitutes"sign up for it but you r free to believe what you want to believe.

  • Is this in response to juicystar07's shoemint video? Cause I reeaally don't like it when gurus do those either.

  • @silentdaffodils this wasn't directed toward anyone; didn't realize she put up a shoemint vid until u mentioned it

  • I love this sooooooo much

  • You are awesome and inspiring :)

  • Well i personally think each beauty guru has a heart and if one of them really true enjoys a product..why not have them get paid for it by the sponsors? I mean it doesn't hurt me in any way. I'm sure that's how sponsoring all started in the first place. For example, if you really enjoyed a particular product and a company decides you did a great job advertising it and they want to compensate you for it, I would not have a problem with that whatsoever. At the end of the day, if I really want to

  • I admire your passion. I understand where you're coming from. On the other hand, we are all adults and if we do not like a product, regardless of who is promoting it, we aren't going to buy it. I don't know too many that I follow that do sponsored videos, but if they did, I'd watch the first three seconds, either carry on watching or click off. I don't begrudge anyone who wants to turn their passion into a living. Like anyone else, I simply choose for myself:) I like your perspective :) ox

  • R.E.A.L. That is all.

  • So true! Agree 100000% :)

  • We'll just call 'em you tube hoes. LOL you crack me up when you get upset in your car. haha

    xo

  • @FranklyScarlettFaced HAHA! ya... my car is amazing. he listens to all my rants!

  • this is why i love watching your videos!!! everything YOU say is not what other people are making you to say. You tell the truth, im on the same boat i really dont call my self a guru just because i share makeup products and stuff to girls out there. I just let people know what i buy at a drugstore and what i like and dont. but maybe thats why we get less views unlike all theres beauty "Guru"

  • Basically, when someone gets paid to rave about a product on youtube (and they DO no matter what thier disclaimers say - they are compensated in one way or another) they have been exploited by the company that wants to use them and the youtuber is allowing themselves to be corrupted for compensation. Yes, as strong of a word as it is it IS a prostitution of sorts.

  • @AroraLaurialis YES!! exploitation! LOL.

  • @daiserz89 Amazing, thoughtful video. Quite a bit of insight. I would have never thought of that, but it makes so much sense. Also, as one of your subscribers, I appreciate your vow to never sell your opinion to us!!! It means you really care! <3 Keep up the good work!

  • I have to agree with enzomatrix that I can't hate the motive behind people who lie a bit to make a ton of money. I disagree with their decision to use their beauty guru status to lie to people, and I don't listen to opinions from sponsored videos BECAUSE I know I'm not getting honest information. Your channel is such a breath of fresh air, though. It's nice to know you are always straight up.

  • @notaclue911 i don't hate these people, but i think it's important for us to realize this. haha i'm also applauding those lesser known on Youtube who give honest advice!

  • @daiserz89 Oh, I know! I wasn't trying to say you hate them. I think it's important to realize that if you want honest advice, search for a review and watch one that's been uploaded within a week and with less than 500 or 1,000 views. That's what I do. :)

  • ...their

  • Personally as long as they really truly like it I don't care. And if they want to do sponsered videos then it's there problem. At the end of the day I am able to form my own opinion so what they say about a product doesn't affect me.

But I could personally never sponser a product that I hate. I have proven time again in life that I prefer integrity over money

  • diff:: if the sex is bad at least youve got the money when its done lol.

if people want to do it im not against it its up to those with purchasing power whether they want to buy into it or not. how many people who do commercials on tv do you think really believe in the product? business is what it is if you dont want to sell out dont thats a moral victory but if someone needs or wants to make more money and they can do it legally i cant hate on them for it.

  • They might be getting paid alot but at some point they will realize they've let go of their integrity! At the end of the day thats all you have

  • only if they love the product then its okay, but if they are lying its not okay

  • First of all I love your videos and how youll have random moments of truth :) Just keep doing what your doing because in the end everyone wants to watch something sincere not fake

  • 5k to reveiw a product i don't really like? um, i'd learn to love it! yes, i would =D

  • (: I totally agree w/ u.

  • I don't minds I know some gurus who get sponsored but they usually use mylikes. Most gurus that I'm subscribe to state what they really think. Others if they don't like it they won't make a video about it.

  • you would be great as a comedian haha you always make me laugh :) i love your videos and i agree with you so muchh!!! i hate sponsored videos!!

  • It really depends I guess. If they do it for only the products they like and belive in it it would be ok. If I could make money like that I would do it. I am a mom of 3 and if I could make that money and like doing it to provide for my familly I would. Money is very tight. But of course I would only endorse if I believed in it.

  • I dont think its fair to others and those who do -_-

  • Juicystar07 is a perfect example.... Check out her latest video

  • I agree! One day there using one product then all if a sudden there LOVING something else they were sent for free. Unfortunately money talks! There sending the wrong message to viewers. Not cool!

  • i agree that most of the sponsored YT brands are total crap and these people are sell-outs!!! i can't even watch those videos anymore....i see jewelmint in the name and won't even watch....crappy ugly jewelry!

  • I agree 100%. I get sick and tired of sponsored videos, especially the ones that you can TOTALLY tell they're fake. You're using yourself, your mouth, your word to create revenue. Then they have these crazy makeup collections will a bunch of high end hauls.
