I saw these guys in Philly in the 70's when they were at the height of their power and they were the best live band I ever saw-better than springsteen, wishbone ash, trex, the faces, better than EVERYBODY.
Their breakout song and still my favorite of theirs. This song kicks ass and does so in a frantic tempo with all the energy that great 60s and 70s bands brought.
Hey Reggie, are you alright? I think Bobby Womack is terrific, however, if you were to ask him about the Mighty J Geils Band he would not deny how they have completely taken his terrific song to another dimension. It is criminal that they are not in the HOF. I've been fortunate to catch J Geils over 16 times since '72. There is not one other live act which can compare to them. Look for them to light up Fenway Pahk this summah!
Sorry Reggie, but you're wrong on two levels. First, J. Geils resurrected this song that was originally done by Bobby W. and Sam Cooke as The Valentinos. The success of the wild J. Geils version caused Bobby W. to re-record the song in the 1970s. Without Geils, you would not be deifying Bobby Womack.
As Good As This Performance Is, J. Geils Can't Touch Bobby Womack's. But they did an honorable job. They put on a great show, but as far as the actual performance, Sorry, but they can't touch Bobby... although nobody can. So, Great Job!
Also, you have to take in account that this is NOT the J. Geils Band in their "prime" either..come on man! Look at these guys! They are in their late 50's and early 60's here probably! Let's see Bobby Womack get up there at this age and give the raw intensity that these guys are STILL giving even in their later years. I love Bobby too though. Just sayin' you gotta give these cats credit! They still rock the house down! What a great song all around!
It breaks my heart that they did just those 4 shows this spring.........with no plans to tour again. How much more on their game could they possibly be?! And to just STOP!? Thank God I saw them at the Fillmore.

It's sad that people don't know how to edit video and jack up the volume before uploading.

Most musicians 1/3 as old as these guys can't deliver with this kind of energy.
