This is my favorite Rush song, and it's so awesome live. I've been lucky enough to hear it twice. I love how Alex just tears it at the end, something you won't get on the album version.
This one was the"dog" on Moving Pictures and still is . But as an average to below average song for them, it speaks lyrically Ill give it that. Its for sure one of the (lets take a break ) songs !!!!!!!
@euphemismlife You're right, but not the way you think. "Those who know what's best for us" are the enemy of the Tea Party. Want to rise and save me from myself? No thanks.
Witch Hunt is one of my all time favorite songs. I've always thought that on the Show of Hands version that Neil's drums were particularly powerful. But, on this version that Alex's guitar steps to the forefront. Rush never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for posting a great video!
I actually think seeing moving pictures this year is the best thing to look forward to all year... I live in Holland, and I will come home to the UK to see them twice... Rush - how can three men make such a sound?! The godly trio... I bow down to you all...
I just don't get it.....why are they not in the Hall Of Fame.......This is one of there best songs... but there are so many how can you pick. I have pictuers of the first time they came to San Antonio.......Sweet.....The best Drummer in the world.....Best Bass and one of the best guitarist.
@hanginstu to be in the r and r hall of fame you have to write shitty songs, be a lousy musician, and have been in some sort of rehab, cmon i thought you would of known that
Redsharkman - i had a Napoleon Dynamite moment when you said you got to see them play Moving Pics all the way through ...."Lucky" - yeah - I'm a dork!!!
I love this song and as always; Rush nails it. Alex is one the, if not the most bad ass under rated guitarist in all of rock n roll! The song itself in my opinion maybe one of the most perfect songs ever written simply on the aspect of the ominous atmosphere it creates in lyrics and music!! Okay - that statement was a bit overly philosphical but what the hell!! Great song - great band!
@kacres1 Agreed, I've heard some good songs but Witch Hunt is my favorite from Rush, and easily in my top couple of favorites of all time. I just saw them last night and was quite stoked at getting to watch Moving Pictures all the way through.
The first time I saw RUSH I kind of knew what to expect. I knew Neil would be god like. I knew Geddy would be bad ass, but what surprised me the most was Alex. He really stands out when you hear them play live. He never gets the attention he deserves.
@Toolshed76 Yeah, Alex is probably the most underrated guitarist out there, or close to. He takes a diminished role in some of their more synth-oriented songs, but he really is awesome.
Nsaid TOOL are copycats, saying theyre one of the few bands as musically complex while incorporating a myriad of knowledge as well as never staying true to who there are..I was saying 'Vapor Trails' had a Toolish vibe to it(NOT the other way around dip shit-the heaviness-where 'Snakes & Arrows' is far diff. But 666 you seem to get off on confrontation,& make VERY lil sense.Maybe you should listen to more Tool,ya know about shedding the ego-your opinion is not the 'be all-end all'-& niether is mine
Listen to Alex on the 'Vapor Trails ' cd-sounds like Adam Jones from Tool.Great stuff-WAY underated record in my opinion. They do it justice on the 'Rush in Rio' dvd.Part of Pearts healing process. For a drummer like me-Rush is like 'required reading'-as Hendrix,Page,etc...are for guitar players.I start my younger drum-set students out on Bonham first though to get that fundamental foundation.Danny Carey is the peart of today, though thats like comparing apples & oranges-its all relative.
@Vatch1966 the WHOLE moving pictures in its ENTIRETY eh? kinda like the same words. haha but yeah its gonna be sick. im going to the Sarnia show. gonna be a night of eargasms
I'm looking forward to them doing this during the upcoming tour as they're doing the entire Moving Pictures album. Considering the political climate down here in the States, the timing is right - especially for Witch Hunt.
@Triplecenturies totally agree, I can't wait till the concert I'm going to! Especially this song, this is one of my top few favorites out of the entire Rush catalog.
It's so awesome to see that they still do this song live....what a fat sound and nice effect on the vocals. I have always been, and will always be a Rush fan for life !!!
Man Alex has some filthy tone, love this tune. The music just matches the lyrical content like a glove. No one does it better then rush. Great sound on this bootleg..
@xyz321123 Filthy tone and it sounds even dirtier when you hear how clean the drums and vocals are next to it. It makes it clear that it's the guitar and not the recording. What a great video!
Guitar too loud, someone said? Well good god, look at the stack behind Alex. Gotta figure if those cabinets all have heads & power, it's gonna be noisy.
I like the live 1984 version that's out here on youtube. It's in the original key (a bit lower), and has a truer feeling to it. Could be the memory lane thing going for me too, I guess.
Yeah, I got the Rio dvd and HATED the mix. The performance was real high energy and they fed off the cowd BUT they mixed too much of the crowed singing along into it. I wanted to hear RUSH, not a bunch of off key drunk Brazialians.
I love the part when the lazer show kicks in and the keyboard parts kick into high gear with the guitar and the fog mixes with the lazers...absolutely mind blasting!!
This is probably one of their most underrated songs ever...Great lyrics..great keyboards....and some nice guitar work to finish it off.. OH...and not to mention some kick-ass drumming by Neil....
look at that like/dislike bar, its like a lit joint ! sounds reasonable when listening to this amazing song.
