@1book1review Haha, I'd be really interested to see what you think if you do pick it up!
You know the author of this book contacted me directly and sent me his book (something that I'm still in aw about) apparently he's a friend on Toby Frost! This is why I read his book XP
I will eat it if it displeases me. Also I know you mentioned you're not much of a fan of classics per se but all the same have you given Jane Eyre a go? I'm reading it atm and ... y'know when you get one of those books that you just want to cuddle forever?
@Ovinicus I'm obviously the complete opposite of you. Hate hate hate Jane Eyre, Hate Wuthering Heights ...Villette's less bad but still not a fun read. I just find the Brontes in general as so over the top, so melodramatic and silly.
@SableCaught I can see some kind of hilarious YouTube rivalry spawning between us, culminating in a video where we just hit each other with paperbacks. :P
the publisher that translates these kind of books in Brazil (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Emma and the Vampires and so forth) actually got a bunch of brazilian authors to do these kind of things with brazilian classics. It's really good, I kind of became obsessed with them. So, yeah, I'll probably be reading this one, too. They're always hilarious.
I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies a while ago. I didn't like though, I just think anything that claims to be enhancing a classic by adding monsters is a bit cheap and tasteless. If they want to write a zombie book why don't they get an original ideas?
@Chell532007 Well I haven't read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies so I don't know what style it's in but with the above it's not an alien book. It's a funny book, and the humour relies on the fact that they're parodying what should be a traditional story. Pinnock takes serious elements associated with Pride and Prejudice and tropes associated with bad scifi and mixes them until you're squealing with laughter.
@SableCaught Yeah that sounds like a good assessment of the style I just don't agree with it. Maybe it's puritanical but cheesy rip offs and so-called sequels to Pride and Prejudice come out all the time and most of them REALLY bad & this is just another dimension of that. And the way these books are written up it's like they're deliberately aiming at people who'd never read the originals. Not that those are the only readers, but that's the point of them. There's a quality issue that's all.
@MagicalUxie Thanks. And I do love them so much. A girl on the cherub book forum made them for me. I don't think she understands at all that they're the best things in the world!
I can't say I've read any of the parodies, though I am looking forward to the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies film. If they ever settle on a director that is. Parody books like this are on the TBR list but as ever it grows ever longer the more I watch your videos haha.
@MrSirPopey There are two many good books out there. This is a very good one though. I still haven't read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies but I actually went out and bought it after finishing this one, wanting some more Austen parodies.
@SableCaught I think that will be the one I go for first. It'll be funny seeing the Bennetts picked off one by one, Lydia first hopefully. Though I'm sure somehow Mrs Bennett would survive long enough to see that her daughters be devoured by only the best zombies.
@SableCaught Hahaha! I'm sure she could see past the undead...ness in order to find some husbands. I can see why people write these books, it's so absurdly funny thinking of what would happen. I think I may need to go dig out some Austen now. Also, 50th video so soon? Wow that's gone quickly!
@MrSirPopey I know, how the time has flown, I've almost been video making for a year now!
And yeah, this is what I like about these books, taking prim and proper characters and putting them in weird and wacking situations. It's kinda what Jasper Fforde does in some parts of his Thursday Next books.
I have to stop watching reviews, this sounds funny. Already had the Zombie book in the back of my head. It's getting crowded there! well read btw.
