I love the turbo, but i still think it doesn't soud good :( Wish it could sound like a GT3, then it would be absolutely amazing :) . And it's wierd it doesn't, because it has the same engine... Do you think that the turbos ruin the sound or what?
It's not even close to the same engine. Only thing that's the same is that they are both flat six's. They sound different because of the vario camming on the intake AND exhaust side, the sodium/titanium valves, the 7 stage dry sumping system, the compression ratio, headers and exhaust system setup, the combustion chambers style (cnc heads) and countless lightweight and titanium components. The turbo's don't ruin the sound at all, it's all in the engine bud. Hope that helps a bit. :)
You are not understanding right. 911 is the name for the porsche model, but you have different types like 996 (old) and 997 (new). I don't know how to explain it good in Englisch, can somebody?
It's basically what "jorrie2" said. I mean look at Ferrari. They have the new F430. The older one was called F360 or so we know as just 360. The new Lambo LP640 is still a Murcielago, but the older Murcielago was the LP600. Sometimes the name may stay the same, but the codename behind it changes. It may be because of a new engine, or frame or something. Like the BMW M3. The older one from like 2000-2006 was known as E46. The new one is called E92, but we still know both of them as M3.
@mykelsang4lyf Its simply an internal code for porsche to differentiate body types, the 997 is the current body type. The 996 and the 997 are both 911s though. Porsche has used MANY different internal code numbers for the 911 series over the years, such as 993, 930, and 964. It gets confusing but just know that those are are all the 911 body styles.
@knox223 It is simply porsche's internal code for the new body style. Over time porsche has changed the 911 body style, improving it, making it look newer, and making cosmetic changes. So for example they choose a number that defines the new body style. Some of the numbers are 964, 993, 996, 997. The new body style that will replace the 997 (current 911) is supposedly going to be called the 991. So in the end 911 just refers to the model but there are different models of 911's (996, 997).
@knox223 911 is the model. The 997 is the generation/type of that model. You have 964, 993, 996, 997. So the 964 goes from 1990-1993 and then the 993 goes from 1994-1997.

@knox223 i believe its kind of like BMW, you see sometimes a e46 m3 or e92 m3 and like c5 z06 and c6 z06. Just a way of distinguishing it more.
loudblazer 1 year ago
@knox223
911 is the model, 997 is the series. Like with the BMW M3- M3 is the Model, E46 is the series.

@knox223 911 is the all porsche carreras and the 996 porsche is 1999-2005 and 997 is 2006-2011
