  • Thank god the crew members weren't on the deck. They'd all have died

  • I used to be a mighty fisherman like you, then I took a rogue wave to the knee.

  • that wave was the best thing that happened.......it put that women back in the kitchen

  • rarity a woman there

  • Go to 0:50 for the wave

  • Nothing new there. Those idiot captains put their crews in jeopardy on a daily basis.

  • Rogue waves tend to come in 2 types... Overly large waves as compared to other waves. Such as a 50' wave in a sea of 20 footers.. and overly large waves that are traveling against the typical flow of the rest of the waves... such as this one.

  • @XJadynX Actually rogue waves come in only one type. They only appear when two (or more) wavecrests of different wave groups coincide at one point (the different crest heights stack up to form one monster wave at that point). They're called rogue waves because you can only see them coming when the crests are coming together at which point you will be a sitting duck. So those guys were quite unfortunate for being in exactly the wrong place at the wrong time.

  • @doritowarrior Well I was wrong but so are you... I forgot there are 3 types. Diffractive focusing, Nonlinear and Wind waves. there is also spatio-temporal focusing but it is pretty rare compared to the others. these can result in 3 types of waves, Walls of water, Three Sisters ( three waves traveling in a line ) or Single giant storm waves. I went and looked it up to make sure.

  • @XJadynX Those are hypotheses about the origin of rogue waves (according to wikipedia ofcourse). That doesn't mean there are three types. There is only one type: a wave amplified by different wavecrests coming together at one point. The three hypotheses you are referring to just explain where those different waves come from, the effect, however, is the same.

  • thank god ! XD

  • really dumb farkwad that is all you think about

  • 5 story building? I don't lnow about that.... Thats terrifying though, I would have been bracing my self to swim

  • They should really have fuel injectors. Lol

  • If I am in a lake with average wave heights of 2 feet then a random fucking wave was 6 feet that i believe qualifies as a rogue wave.

I was windsurfing one day then fucking shit i got knocked off by a random 6 foot wave.

  • pwnt

  • thats deinitely a rogue wave alright jesus id shit my pants if i saw that coming at my boat. and im sure all of the crew members have tried nailing the captains daughter and half have probably succeeded. even the most conservative virgin male or female is gonna get lonely on that boat and thats when even the uglies start to look do-able ha

  • I went on a cruise to Alana last week and in our first port of call, Ketchikan, our first shore excursion was on the very boat that this was filmed on. It has been converted for tourism and does not crab in the industry any more.

  • No thank you...

  • These Waves Reallly are out on the Ocean ?

  • @Roadracer987654321 Yeah. One really good reason to not take the oceans so lightly!

  • hey i need your help i cant find the episode of time bandit under wear seen do you know what epsiode it from or the name of the epsiode

  • @TheThorinbingham not sure what you're talking about tbh....under wear seen? do you mean scene? anyway check imdb, they have descriptions for every episode

  • i went on that boat and met some of that crew.

  • It's not 'amazing' that the boat righted itself, that is what they are designed to do.

  • Mother Nature, you scary.

  • "that probably woulda killed an ordinary man" lol

  • Bugger that for a joke!

  • anybody typed in something like "rogue 60" hoping to find some WoW PVP vids? :P

  • WOW !!! I heard about these rogue waves ten years ago, but there were no videos. Thanks to the wide availability of cameras today and Youtube, we can now see these waves. Incredible.

  • i thought i watched this show a lot, but captain jerry tilley? huh

  • how can i get a job as a greenhorn??

  • fucking scary monster...

  • bloody hell they must of shit there pants =-O

  • @huntdogg1 Or at least busy and sore :V

  • Top reason why I'm scared of boats...

  • Does anyone care about the crabs? I hope they didn't get bruised up.

  • R.I.P Captain Phil Harris

  • I wonder if any of those dudes tried to nail the captains daughter.

  • @DonovanCharles Im sure the captain previously threatened to kill anyone who tried!

  • @LaJuera25 Wouldn't stop me from trying. Huge sausage fest, stuck at sea for weeks. And there's one pretty good looking single female on board...yeah, they're already staring death right in the eyes, might as well go out with a BANG!

  • @DonovanCharles Before or after the freak wave?

  • @DonovanCharles They really want to fuck you.

  • @cochranexyz Who is "they".....?

  • In case anyone was wondering, the largest rogue wave ever recorded was on 7 February 1933, the USS Ramapo encountered a wave measuring 34 m (112 ft) in height.

  • After that wave, i bet they could withstand any wave!

  • "What's the name of the ship we are going on? *reads side of boat* SS Poseidon.....ok lets go home!"

  • thrown into the cabinet! poor baby!

  • some of the last real men in America. Fuck your office buildings and your call centres, this is where we came from. And you know what, fuck your feminism too. I'm sick of hearing women talk about oppression and sexism and how bad they had it, but they were quick to live off the hard and dangerous work of men like this, and I didn't see too many of them rushing down the coal mines or onto the boats or into the forests when they got the chance.

  • @TheJay9002 E-Z Fella....you sound mighty angry at something-"women". Everything "ok" with you? We're NOT all aliike. I come from a long line of men & women working together. We had a Trucking business that transported pure cocoa butter to chocolate warehouses/factories to make candies, and I had a chance to move (drive) a few rigs around wearing jeans, a t-shirt and combat boots with my hair in a high pony-tail. At night? Little black dress, hi-heels and a fresh face of light make-up - sexy!

  • u know ur vid is on a sch website rite?

  • Man, that is scary.

  • I would have asked the steward to please do my laundry.

  • Huge waves are pretty scary :O

  • i would POOP my pants if i was on that boat!!!!

  • chuck norris cannon balled..

  • Not too many years ago, rogue waves were considered myths. It was only 1995 that rogue waves were considered real after a 80+ feet wave hit an oil-rig in the North Sea.

  • Im so afraid of the ocean... and thats not even the biggest wave ever recorded... let alone what size they get when we arnt looking o.o

  • I hope the crabs weren't hurt.

  • If you like travel and adventures Youtube search "TMD PROMO TRAILER"

    Follow the JOURNEY!!! Stay tuned....

  • Geez, that was close. They probably should've put out a pan-pan signal due to the damage of their ship though...

  • Were the crabs alright?

  • I so prefer the Scottish voice over.

  • meanwhile. . . . the crew are enjoying a quiet day at sea

  • The deadliest catch is still AIDS.

  • @lektrum you're claim is wrong. This footage has been credited as the first video documented rogue wave. I can send you the sources if u want bucko

  • Mother of God.

  • I think that dude in the blue T shirt brought a few buds on board..

  • which season and episode is this??

  • Thumbs up if BBC Focus sent you! ;)

  • The boat got run'd over by a wave....see kids this is what happens when you dont look both ways before crossing the ocean.

  • i still don't dunderstand why they don't have cameras on the top of the ship,so that thay can see what's hapenning

  • @shallehalle i would also want some sort of video or radar to detect when i was over a large crab score

  • @shallehalle Far out i wish they did ae grrrr. Rogue waves would then become even more respected.

  • Think I did watching it

  • @lektrum A rogue wave is not measured in terms of absolute size, but as compared to other waves. If a wave is more than twice the size of the significant wave height - the height of the largest 1/3 of waves at a given point - then it qualifies as a rogue wave. This wave might easily have qualified.

  • @trainiax : true but irrelevant. A 60 foot wave is ALWAYS a rogue wave, as it's height always exceeds the double of the significant wave height (as you don't have 30 foot significant wave height).

  • @chr1zoo Significant wave height isn't some static height where waves are deemed "significant" if they exceed it. It is determined by the current sea state, and defined as "the average wave height (trough to crest) of the one-third largest waves". If they're in "40' seas", this means the significant wave height at that moment was 40'. Under those conditions, a 60' wave is not technically classified as a rogue wave.

  • @lektrum dude it was a fucking rogue wave okay like it have a ponytail and used only a bow and arrow and fucking stealth kills, okay? it was a rogue wave.

  • Captain jerry needs to learn how to steer a boat.

  • The Aleutian Ballad almost sang it final song.

  • And that's why you shouldn't run ocean stop signs. :P

  • They can snap boats in half :O

  • I've often wondered if this was actually the tail end of a much larger wave which broke a few hundred yards away off in the darkness. It does look more like the end of a breaking wave than a typical wall of water you hear talked about with freak waves. Just a thought. Maybe they were much luckier even than they realise?

  • @addernoir01 Absolutely agree with u. that it was the tail end of a much larger wave.

  • Cool I'm the 1,000,000th viewer! Now where's my prize?!?

  • @spamdude060 no prise mate just another scam. lol "Congratulations. click here to receive ur prise"

    "F&$k off

  • @ChocManus Well I'm just being sarcastic because when I saw this video the video views was 1,000,000 at that time!

  • The wave in Alaska was a tsunami, not a rogue wave. Rogue waves are so called because they do indeed "come out of nowhere," with no obvious cause like an earthquake. At least in this case it looks like they all returned safe and sound.

  • @Mxsmanic oh yeah. . . . . True!

  • I thought rogue waves are able destroy a large passenger vessels (such as the Oasis of the Seas). Well apparently they are not so dangerous, since it was not able to destroy a small boat.

  • @LufthansaDAIGO There are different size of rogue wave...

  • @LufthansaDAIGO Do you think that this looks like the tail end of a wave that has already broke. I believe that it is

  • damn sea you scary

  • Quick fact: largest rogue wave ever recorded was up in Alaska about 60 years ago and was caused when a chunk of a glacier fell off and created a 1500 FOOT WAVE, sending it into a small bay surrounded with mountains...trees were riped from the ground 1500 feet up the sides of the mountain...

  • @kmklover that would be a tsunami not a rogue wave. a rogue wave occurs in the ocean during a storm, a tsunami is caused by an earthquake, a piece of a glacier, a meteorite ext.....

  • @isorry4strokin and also in calm seas.

  • WUT DA FUCK! O__O

  • That's saying something when the Captain immediately thinks they hit a rock or another boat. WOW.

  • That's the scariest thing. They just come OUT OF NOWHERE.

  • @Scarecrowman27 Sh$# yeah :)

  • o shut the fuck up

  • I'd have shit my pants if I was on that boat

  • @GoldeneyePwner hell, i was over 3000 miles away and i still almost shit my pants!

  • @GoldeneyePwner and the wave would have just washed your pants clean... as well as the rest of you

  • @fuzzylogic218 Bummer.

  • @GoldeneyePwner same if the boat was hitting the wave head on

  • @GoldeneyePwner Hahaha

  • Dam

  • Ninja wave,

    silent but deadly

  • that is fudging scary....

  • I for sure would have left a nugget in my drawers. My ship took a couple of giant waves when i was in the navy but we were alot bigger than these guys.

  • @killpeople20 oh ok

  • Almost got pooped on

  • freaking scary stuff.

  • Definately a case of seeing your life flashing before your eyes. Holy shit. Those waves punch holes into the sides of ships, so they're lucky it wasn't a full grown 90ft one.

  • @ScreamingTc agreed

  • btw the music reminds me of twilit beast ganons boss battle i don't know why

  • that sound of engines dying must rly suck

  • TheRealRedAce im with you i think they should stop doing that its annoying

  • wooh MAMA

  • If they were in 40' seas wouldn't a 60' wave technically not be considered a rogue/freak wave? I would think it would have to be at least an 80' wave to be considered a rogue wave in 40' seas.

  • @wlmason73 acauly in the book he said 25 foot seas to 30 feet with when the the 60 footer slammed into their boat

  • @wlmason73 yep

  • i really wish that there was a function that read people comments back to them before they were able to post it. People on you tube then would realize how idiotic they sound sometimes.

  • Sucker-punched by a wave!!

  • thats what happens when you cause chuck norris to be bored

  • @irelandcool1 Chuck Norris was playing shippy ship ship in the tub :)

  • @StolenMonkey the ocean is chuck norris bathtub

  • You think the waves are already too big in the beginning of the scene. And then they're lectured into what a "big" wave is. :O

  • @nihil1 lol!

  • This is like a nightmare. I have no idea how the hell these guys can keep going like this. One time would be enough for me. Ever since the Poseidon Adventure in the 70s, I have been freaked about being in a large boat flipped over by a giant wave...

    No way.

  • In Soviet Russia, Water Drink YOU!

  • that's engineering

  • one of the things i dont like about deadliest catch is the way they stretch this out and repeat it with music instead of just showing us the real footage, no narration, no music, no cut-aways until AFTER we see the scene. it gives a more real feeling :(

i still like the show though

  • Woah! fuck me that was crazy.

  • That's some scary stuff. You can't even really do anything about because of how random those waves can be I guess.

  • What season and episode is this on?

  • @jessikagurl101 and I dont even like crab legs!

  • While I'm not a big fan of this show, these guys definitely have huevos of steel. If I tried to do this work I'd fall off the boat in the first hour.

  • That must've been scary as fuck. And all that just so we can eat crab legs. Unbelieveable.

  • @jessikagurl101 They're doing it so they can feed their families

  • this show kicks ass!

  • That's what happens when you don't look both ways before crossing the ocean.

  • @Zuhaltermann That's the kind of commentary you do when you don't know what the hell you are talking about. What would he do if he saw the wave ? Jump it ?

  • @OMUNDODETUTU he's joking...

  • @naltrexone23X Me too...

  • @Zuhaltermann Lol

  • @Zuhaltermann Hahaaa that was pretty funny.. good comment!

  • saw the Aleutian Ballad when I was up there-AWESOME!

  • What are slack tanks?

  • @mattc941 I was wondering the same thing...?

  • OKAY im a fan of the show and thought how much money you can make off this type of work until i seen that wave smack the shit out of that fishing vessel.........im fucking cool off dis shit.....wave hit that ship like a linebacker

  • crazy

  • its amazing that the boat isn't pushed farther, given how bouyant boats are, i guess its cuz the bouyant part is in the water and the wave is very superficial wind generated thing

  • that was so nasty im in philly pa and that wave knocked me out of bed.. for some reason it looks worse than when i seen it on tv.. i would give it 5 stars if i new how

  • Whatever money these people earn, add another zero

  • Amazing

  • fucken hellll

  • @MalteSer001 ya think :D

  • @suckmydildocream stfu homedog

  • I remember this story in Alaska...

  • I remember this story in Alaska...

  • Credit to the team who built the boat. There engineering saved these guys lives

  • I want to be the wave hitting the boats xD

  • BRASS CAHONIES GRANDES I tell ya!!!

    BRASS CAHONIES GRANDES!!!!!

  • ill tell ya what, those fisherman have got some brass cahonies

  • @HFSB Grow up you pathetic juvenile troll. :(

  • sethbiard dont mean to correct you but rogue waves are 100 tons per square meter

  • I think it more scary for the camera guy than the people on the boat

  • nice time for intercoarse

  • Rollo: funniest crew

    T Bandit: reckless crew

    NWestern: most efficience crew

    C Marie: family crew

    Maverick: most comfy boat

  • My god, some of the comments here. Why don't both of you shut the fuck up?
