Some may call it artistic license, I call it a mistake.

You down-graded your footage to monochrome, yet you applied a color film burn. Film burn can only contain the colors the "film" is capable of. In the case of your example, all the greys between black and white. To be realistic the footage should be grey scaled after the film burn is applied.

Film burn is caused by a light leak in the camera or film cartridge. Or, the film door being opened where the film can be exposed by ambient light.
