@bigmaine1995 Crap you're right on Karyn White, I was trying to pull a list off the top of my head after work and remembered her being light skinned, didn't bother to look it up.

Still, to discredit Mariah Carey is a bit of a stretch as looking up her heritage, she's about a quarter black.

And in all, it still doesn't refute my point... you can be a great R&B singer no matter your skin color.

@Frasier2098 While most r&b singers are black, there have been enough great white R&B artists that it is wrong to make such a blanket statement.

Michael McDonald was phenomenal, Jon B and Martin Kember are both incredibly talented. And of course women like Karyn White and Mariah Carey have shown themselves to be strong r&b singers as well.

Not to mention if you include other races/ethnicities, you have talented vocalists like Frankie J, Yuki Koyonagi, and more.

Memories. . . . . Nothing against artists today. However, I think the push to attain a cross-over appeal has lead to the decrease in the breadth and depth of R&B that existed between the 70s-90s.

We need to support the genre of R&B before even more solid singers and vocalist become more far and between.
