  • Yes a great movie well acted by Paul Jones ( rubbish acting by the gorgeous Jean Shrimpton )

I still find the story a bit haunting .

I wish that I could by a copy of this excellent film.

    Brian sends this !

  • Hear John Lennon's "Working Class Hero". See Watkins' "Punishment Park"

  • Hear John Lennon's "Working Class Hero"

  • George Bean, died in the erly 70,s he also did covers of Rolling Stones songs,

as he was a friend of the Stones

there is very little about George anywhere, a shame really, as he died too early in life

  • From an excellent movie called Privilege in which a National Unity government uses a pop idol to distract youth anger in a future England. We forget that if and when Fascism returns it may be fashionably dressed and armed with the latest consumer surveys and spending patterns.

  • if some one released this same version, [ without the back ground noise ] then it may well be a hit,

it really should have been released as a single back then,

it is really a good version, Paul Jones, and the beutifull Jean Shrimpton

first time I seen it, it was playing as a first film in our old cinema, in 1974 they always used to show 2 films then,.

an oldie, followed by the main one, which was Phantom of the Paradise, with Paul Williams,Jennifer Harper

    thanks for putting it up

  • @marcusbewley1 Oh yes, it's a great song that could have charted high, from a great movie!

  • Hadn't seen this since I was a kid. I remember thinking what a great song it was and only finding out years later that it was in fact "Jerusalem" .

Funny how the memory plays trick's on you as I had always thought it was Paul Jones singing this!

  • Never seen this before... great, thanks for sharing

  • Peter Watkins is and will be forever a genius

This is Mary Whitehouses Festival of Light four years before it happened.

It is Eric Clapton supporting Enoch Powell ten years before it happened.

This is Britain under Thatcher during the Falklands War twenty years before it happened -

And it will soon be the Sir Cliff-Richard-Bono types joining the BNP

Come back Peter all is forgiven you were right we were wrong!!

  • I've seen the movie in 1970. But I'm German and it seems, that I don't understand anything there.... ? Your comment is interesting, but I don't understand again its whole meaning. Won't you explain to me? Falkland was at '81 as I remember - where is the matching point? I'm very interested indeed!

  • The film told of an authoritarian future it was released in 1967.

The Festival of Light Rally was 1971

Eric Clapton announced his support for the right wing politician Enoch Powell was in 1975.

Peter Watkins himself has said that it was prophetic of the atmosphere in Britain during the Falklands war that was 1982. Will send more details to you.

  • this is amazing. I am a fan of Watkins though I have only seen war game and culloden. a couple of years ago I saw an pic of this 'rally' in my local Birmingham Evening Mail. It was shot at St Andrews the home of Birmingham City and it was the time I was going down as a young boy. I can't recall anything in the papers about this at the time as it would have been a bit event.

  • It was shown regularly in the 80s by Thames or LWT - to simply say that the BBC was very wrong in rejecting this radical director. If you think that this vision of the future was over the top - just listen to the reaction of the dockers and meat porters when they march and shouted their support for Enoch Powell just one year later - absolutely chilling .

  • Sweet! Ive been looking for this film for sometime please could you upload thanks!
