I've been on for 27 years with Los Angeles County Fire. Way back in the day, when we had 9 females total.. 7 were off on injury. That's a fact. I love females, but I'm not too confident in their longevity in the fire service.

Dam, sad but true! some woman are just not suppose to be in the FD! It just sucks that these females make the rest of the females look wrong and "too girly" for the job. It does piss off some of the guys and myself to know when a company of 4 including a female, the job will get done with only 3... Oh well... I know Im not one of them tho.
I agree with you. I went through a fire academy with a girl that I trusted more than the 28 other people in the class. Everyday during training she whould pick the 200 pound dummy up and drag it like it was nothing. She had the heart and sometimes that is all it takes.
@theedevious1 The strongest female in my brigade can't use the hydraulic crab-cutters. That alone in my opinion should disqualify her from the job. Women's bones degenerate much quicker than men and heavy phsyical tasks become more problematic as they age. The strongest woman in the highest weight class can barely beat the strongest man in the second-lowest weight class. The rest of the female world record holders can´t compete. The difference between the highest total weigth is almost 330lbs

Sorry but if a woman cannot lift a 180 lb person, or pick up and operate extrication tools, or climb ladders w/heavy turn-out gear, scba, and tools, then they shouldn't be firefighters. It's not sexist or misogynistic and evrything to do with safety and ability to perform duties. I would want to be confident that I would be able to be carried out if I'm ever in danger of dying in a fire. And preferably, the FF would be HOT as hell!
