@SeanOBriain The internet... so much misinformation polluting our lives. It even comes to you when you're not looking for it, carried by random trolls like this one.
Iontach suimiúil! Tá athbheochan beag ar siúil maidir leis an teanga i measc daoine óga, feicim sa choláiste é gach lá, tá sé deas a bheith ábalta an Ghaeilge a labhairt le daoine m'aois fhéin agus gnáthchomhrá a bheith agat leo, cosúil mar a dhéanfainn i mBéarla. Agus fosta tá sé deas aithne a chur ar dhaoine a tugadh i nGaeilge fosta. Tá sé furaist mothú as áit, fiú amháin nuair a bhí mé ar scoil, mar bhí mise i gcónaí ag smaoineamh i nGaeilge, ní raibh daoine eile & níor thuig siad é sin.
@MieowMieowEv Aonataíom leat, uaireanta smaoineaíonn mé i nGaeilge. Labhraíom i nGaeilge díreach i scoil, áfach, sa bhaile labhraíom Béarla, ach is aoibheann liom an Ghaeilge!!!! :)
Níor cheap me ariamh go bhféicfinn Stiofain Mac Fraoi ag tabhairt moladh don Ghaeilge agus í a labhairt chomh maith. Is breá an rud é sin a fheiceáil. Bomaite stáiriúil gan amhras. Maith thú a dhuine uasail.
The reason Irish speakers, in my opinion, don't use Irish online and on phones is because it's easier not to have to include characters like á, é, í, ó and ú, and predictive text doesn't come in Irish. As much as I appreciate Stephen Fry's attempt to find a deeper reason for it, I doubt there is one!
@damvid21 While that may contribute in a small way, I doubt that's the real reason. Any Irish speaking person will know where the fada lies in a word that doesn't feature it. I'd say it's more because to speak Irish, you have to say more than you would in English. And besides, they're going to be speaking online and through phones with Irish people who are not so fluent - thus ridding any real need to text in Irish, or use it as a language on Facebook and the like.
“Sit down until I’ll take a couple of Euro out of you…!” Macdara Ó Fátharta (Tadhg Ó Díréain) and Stephen Fry – never thought I’d see two of my favourite actors in the same room together! GRMA, a Sheáin, tugtar dearcadh an-dearfach ar an dteanga sa chlár seo. :)
I fuckin love Stephen Fry
