I saw this from the north. I lived about 1/8 mile northwest of Mr. Fireworks. I was so close I saw the roof of the skating rink tossed in the air, and then I saw the pieces of wood flying around the funnel when it hit the Mack truck place. Very scary.

Thanks Tanner! Us SKYWARN Storm Chasers are the best around in Indiana! Lucky for me that particular tornado had a funnel over my house, and i was already on the chase.. Where they was sitting at was right infront of Fozoils on US 31, and I was down by the Mr. Fireworks watching it pass right past me! 3rd best tornado in Howard history! At that point in time it was a F2..if it was in todays time it would've been an EF1 And HellBound, they was about 3-5 miles away.

It would have been rated EF2 even it happened in today's time. It is rated by the damage it caused. The wind speeds are only estimates. F2 and EF2 damage are exactly the same. It's just now they have a better understanding on how much wind it takes to do the type of damage that is done by tornadoes. Each F rating and EF rating has the exact same damage for each number on the scale. The wind estimates get really far from each other as the scale goes up on the damage rating. F5 and EF5 same damage

@bigazzpimp407 I was responding to Kokomoian Ryan whose comment is about 4 comments down from mine. He mentioned that it was an F2 at the time it passed by him, and he said it would have been rated EF1 if it had happened when the new EF scale was put into effect. I was telling him it would have been rated EF2 because it's damage that tornadoes are rated by, not the wind speed. Wind speeds are only estimated by what kind of damage the tornado did. A low end EF2 really isn't major damage anyway.

@Torn80cj - I know how tornadoes are rated. I work for The National Weather Service in Northern Indiana. A low end EF2 would still do considerably more damage than this tornado. I checked archives at our Indianapolis office and this paticular tornado in the video was rated an F0. The old Fujita scale was still being used at the time, as you already now.

I watched the funnel cloud form for 5 or 6 minutes before it touched down. I was out of my car and near a ditch if I had to bail and was at a safe distance for filming (about 1-1.5 miles). I also called the guy who sped past me more than an idiot but was smart enough to edit that out. It was very funny looking back after the fact and it is also cool to see all of the responses to the video. Cheers

I was @ Macedonia Christian Church teaching VBS I was a jr. in HS when the tornado that destroyed Taylor HS hit. It went straight up through the HS right around our church & on to some more destruction in Greentown. Talk about divine intervention. I love storms & I went outside & watched it. It made THS's gym look like a giant deck of cards being shuffled.
