I got the simulator as a Christmas present ages ago!! I think it was brought from a shop which sells computer games so it was a trusty, reliable, LEGAL source ;)
Great video. Will there be a tutorial on instrument flight soon?
I am surprised that the VOR can track from the ground at :25. Whenever I fly (whether on the simulator or in real life), the OBS needle will not become active until I get a couple of hundred feet off the ground.
Hopefully I will be making some more tutorials in the near future which will be a lot better than these ones and go into more in depth. However, I have my exams which have to take a greater priority.
The OBS needle is probably a little sensitive in flight simulator so is not wholly realistic, but nonetheless it serves it's purpose.
Hi there. Appreciate and thumbs up for the easy to understand VOR tutorial on YouTube. Unfortunately I seems to be unable to find the Part 4 (Approach Settings).
@mfnordin Thanks for the kind words. I'm sorry but I never got around to doing an approach video. Sorry. If you would like to ask me any question on the approach, feel free to PM me :)
Great effort! Shame you decided against doing part 4 though as it would have been nice to see it through to the end. It would have demonstrated how to enter the traffic pattern and line up for landing, given that you were following a course to the NDB to the west of the field. Keep up the good work :-)
@pilotdrummer95 The fact that you know all about VOR navigation, etc., and are not even a pilot yet is a sign that you'll make a great pilot one day. I had already soloed before I learned about VOR navigation, and it took me a little while before I got the hang of it.
@GeneralSirDouglasMcA Thanks you very much... for me to be a great pilot one day is the dream. I'm definately going to do more videos after Christmas so keep looking out =D
The only thing that I would have added to this tutorial is a demonstration of how a vor will send a morse code audio signal to your aircraft as a means of verifying that you REALLY are flying towards what you think you are...
I didn't really have time to do one! It was only going to be a landing but I'm gonna be making some new tutorials in the near future in the holidays so there will be landings a-plenty =D
No problem! =D If you want to land set a frequency for the VOR at the airport. Then you may fly there and land if you wish. Or you can ask ATC for vectors for the visual.
I forgot the landing on this one but I'm preparing a few things for my new tutorials. Subscribe and you'll have the best tutorials ever =D
Yes mate! Thanks a lot for the kind words. If you subscribe you'll be getting the latest in a new line of top tutorials. Much better than these old ones. We'll be starting with a virtual Private Pilot Course so check it out!!
Does your FSX ever freeze up? Mine does :) but i plan to try again. Nice work on the video. just 1 question, is the current course that one may be flying be the same as heading (Heading 140=course 140 maybe?)?
hi again pd95 just wanted to know when you start fsx and chose flightplan and chose vor to vor do you start the flight with IFR or VFR? many thanks simon.
i got !! u explain very clear!!!. Now, how do i use the ILS. I was waiting for your tutorial number 4. Can u explain me from the last VOR that i passed , the ILS and landing. I likie a lot this game so i wanna use it good.
The ILS is a very complex navigation tool to learn.
To put simply, you need to tune the ILS FREQUENCY OF THE RUNWAY you want to land at. If you're in the cessna 152 then lets say the radio NAV1.
Then on the OBS select the course heading you want to fly to the runway. If the runway was 33 the the course may be 332.
It may take a few moments to activate, but then you will be set so follow the bars. More videos will be out soon but in the meantime check other ones to be safe.
Hi, this tutorial is perfect i got everything very clear, thank u very much. But i have a problem with the ADF. the indicator doesnt change and i checked that is the right frequency.
Good tutorial, but dude, next time, script it! It was painful waiting for you to try and get the correct thing out! But other than that thanks for your help!
Sorry about that! :S When I do these I have a 100% idea of what I'm going to say but then I fluff up my words and stutter a bit. If I am half-waythrough the video then I really cannot be bothered to change it all.
Thanks for watching and it was also a chance for you to see me fly. I'm hopefully gonna get around to do a vid on the approach at cardiff so hopfully that'll go down well!
Yh it was probably because you haven't put in the frequency correctly! Oh well if its working its all good! There's sometimes a delay with these things!
thanks!! you've helped me a great deal!

@pilotdrummer95 Great videos dude, but don't forget about your flaps when you're taking off.

@maynardthepilot Yh I know lol... in some case, if the runway is long enough, then the Cessna will not need flaps to takeoff. :)

bestbets1 1 year ago
Yes thats correct :D However in some operations the course is opposite to the heading of flight. So if the heading of flight = 140
the course = 320
Thanks for your kind comment and hope this helps

Hi, i saw your tutorial and is perfect and very helpfull, thank u very much!!
By the way , i have a problem with the ADF indicator that doesnt move and i checked and i have the right frequency. Please let me know what is wrong.
Thank u very much and i wait for your answer!
jaikohan 2 years ago
@jaikohan
Thanks a lot for the kind comments :D
The ADF must be on the RIGHT FREQUENCY. CHECK AND CHECK AGAIN!!!!
You also may be too far out the range of the ADF so as a guide, be within 20-50nm of the ADF.
The needle may have moved, but very slightly, you may not have noticed it!
Thanks a lot and hope this helps.

Correct me if im wrong but didn't you say you would be cruising at 6000 ft, but you seem to be at 9000ft?
Thanks again though, this is helping me tons!
marcchilton2 2 years ago
Hehe thanks for that it was because when I took off there was quite a bit of turbulence and cloud in my way so I climbed up to 9000ft.
However it didn't really work because there was still a lot of cloud, so jokes on me guys :D
