I think there is no shame in having seen this 5 times in my life.. >.> California, Colorado, New York (!!! Broadwayyyyy!!!) (Worth every penny even if Christine kept going sharp and had a wayyyy out of whack vibrato "AaaaaAAAaaaAaaaaaAaAaAaAaAAAAAaaA"). I am 20, Haven't seen in enough times... I am poor nao though.. D:
I saw this on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre last year. AMAZING. This is my favorite musical of all time. This show was so amazing, during Masquarde(spelling?), the curtain opened up to the scene and the costumes, and I could hear the HUGE gasps of amazement rippling through the crowd. I found myself gasping too, it was amazing.
can anyone recall the date, time, and most importantly the cast? i need it for a project, mainly needing Christine, Phantom, Raoul, Carlotta and Madam Giry
Hugh Panaro is the best Phantom I have ever heard. When I went to see it, I actually started crying during music of the night, because it was the first time I'd heard it sung correctly.
In LOVE NEVER DIES, the preposterous sequel to PHANTOM, your favorite characters are mutilated beyond recognition. The Phantom turns from a genius man of mystery into a sap who with a penchant for gaudy jewellery who now composes tacky vaudeville music. Christine turns from a courageous opera star into an indecisive whore. Raoul turns from a heroic rescuer into a drunken wreck. Meg turns from an innocent ballerina into a topless dancer who murders Christine.
Unfortunately - and I don't mean to disappoint anyone (very sorry) but someone told me that Love Never Dies is not coming to Broadway in NY anymore because it did not reach a high enough satisfactory level in London. I'm hoping that will change because I was very sad to hear that!!! =(
@phanofmusic626 Hi, it's going to Toronto and Australia with two different creative teams, and the best version will go to New York, Webber told last week in an interview. There had been differences between Webber and the London director.
@phanofmusic626 Whoever told you that is wrong. Love Never Dies is slated for a Broadway opening within the next two years. The show has been doing very well in London, the soundtrack album debuted at #10 on the British charts. The critics have hated it, but the seats have been full and the public seems to be enjoying it. There's absolutely no way they would skip Broadway with this production, don't worry =)
@RichieEastside Oh. Ok. Good to know... I'll have to talk with the person who told me haha. Cool you know all this stuff. I'm not that updated with my own researches as you can see. =0
@phanofmusic626 Just hit up broadway (dot) com and they have pretty much all the insider info ;) Don't take their reviews seriously though, they'll pretty much give a gold star to anybody just so they can get interviews and pics and stuff. There's tons of blogs and stuff though that have up to the second bway gossip and rumor millage xD
Don't want to see the story and characters travestied in a nonsensical sequel in which the Phantom composes vaudeville trash, Christine sleeps around, Raoul becomes a drunken wife abuser and neglectful father and Meg becomes a topless dancer who murders Christine?
You're not alone.
Say NO to LOVE NEVER DIES, the absurd, unnecessary and unwanted sequel to PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.
@1AdrianR I hope you enjoyed it....I know I did, in fact, it gave me the inspiration to make an animated movie that is a contemporary adaptation of the story!
@71crm Thank you, I've heard that Love Never Dies is coming to my hometown, Toronto which I hope to see as the music is brilliant. Not sure why people hate it.
Don't want to see the characters and their story butchered for future generations?
Then be appalled to know that in Lloyd Webber's unwelcome sequel, entitled LOVE NEVER DIES, which is based on a flop novella by Frederick Forsyth, the Phantom no longer composes opera but trashy vaudeville while not being a bartender, Christine sleeps around, Meg becomes a topless dancer who murders Christine and Raoul becomes an alcoholic and wife abuser.
AHHHH! I just saw this the day before yesterday @ the Majestic! It was BEYOND amazing!!!!!! I got the chills during "Think of Me" and cried and cried and cried during the scenes b/t Christine and the Phantom (esp the very end)! It was my 1st Broadway show and it was the best performance I have ever seen! Just...ah! I don't even have words haha -Katie
i saw it on Broadway and I was blown away!! Ive seen so many Broadway shows before for birthdays but THIS SHOW!! It made me laugh, cry, and cheer. The romance in this show is so beautiful i recommend it to EVERYONE. I saw this show 2 DAYS AGO and it was the best day EVER. The ending was so sad when the girl found the mask i cried SO much at that part
@KamiinKyle It's actually an illusion. They use dry ice machines to hide the stage, giving the illusion of a misty lake. The boat has wheels and is controlled like a toy car. The phantom himself does not control the boat, eventhough it appears as if i does :)
Bought tickets for this in October in LA for my sister's birthday. She loves the movie and really wanted to see the show and it's finally coming back to the Pantages Theatre so... Presale tickets went on sale today so scooped up some really good seats. She's gonna flip...
@naryafaeraine they could, but people would stop seeing it at the theatre. now i suppose they COULD make a theatre exclusive DVD of it that way the only way to get the DVD is to see it live.
@Disneydanny Lol that would be all over youtube within two hours. If the show ever closes, though, THEN they should film it from Broadway, like Cats and Rent.
@naryafaeraine That's why they made the movie...and no matter where you are in the world pretty much you'll have the opportunity to see it at least once or twice a year on tour ;)
@naryafaeraine Sadly, they might not because Webber said that that's the reason they made the movie, But the movie sucked! Hopefully for the 30th anniversary but that's to far away!
@naryafaeraine OMG I KNOW! like i saw it on broadway..but i couldnt see much..like if they made a broadway version..like, we could see everything and the details..AGGGGGH! :)
@naryafaeraine Or at least something like they do with Les Mis. A concert of the songs in costumes..?
I don't think it would prevent people from going to see it regardless. I mean, that would only be showing one cast. It's nice and interesting to see different actors in the role. Each time I see new depth and character from every role. :) Singing and acting is very unique and tells you a new story with each delivery.
