I have a friend, now 80, whose family (MacMillan) came from Glenlyon. They were all pipers, and served in the Scots Guards. After leaving the army, my friend and his brother emigrated to Australia in the mid-50's. Now back in the U.K. my friend continues piping, and was invited to play with the Guards on the occasion of H.M. The Queen's Golden Jubilee, since he had originally played at the Queen's Coronation in 1953. He has so many amazing stories to tell !
@piperbob2 Great story! Although the longest glen in Scotland, Glen Lyon is very sparsely populated, with only a few small hamlets. It`s another Scottish glen where the population has dramatically reduced over the last few centuries!
I can't wait to get back to Scotland again. I was there last August (in Edinburgh) and made some good friends in Glasgow during the Piping Championships, so I'll definately be back. Got to say the Scots I met were such friendly and welcoming people!. . . Thanks for this wonderful video!
Just told my grandson (9 yrs old) last nite that he should start saving money so that we can go to Edinburgh to watch the Military Tattoo...
