This version needs fire 4 speed run. SNESmario1 has longer best possible time than NES. (Didn't some1 do non-power-up/nonTAS run of NESmario near 5min?) NES, possible 2 clear tall piranha plant pipes 4-1, 8-1, 8-3 w/ running jumps. SNES, needs fireballs to avoid stopping. Fire also nice to have 4 enemies in tight spots (1-2, 4-2, 8-3, etc.) if U aren't NESmario record holder. Perfectionists could shave SNES version to about the 5:30s, but I think U need fire to do it.

Tool-Assisted runs are only legit if the only Tool-Assistance they get is the fact that it's on an emulator instead of an NES or in this case SNES. So long as they aren't using actual cheats, it still counts as legit even if they exploit glitches in the original code.

For more speed, go down the pipe in level 1-1, jump earlier at the taller pipes in 4-1, crouch jump the goombas at 4-2, be a little more careful activating the vine at 4-2 so you don't fall down, ignore that first goomba at 8-1, and jump earlier at the tall pipes in 8-1. It's an okay run but with my tips you can cut off anywhere from 30 seconds to a minute and a half off your time, depending on how many times you get hit and how many mushroom blocks you go for.
