  • Carl has the red guitar, Pete has the sun burst? It must have been opposite day.

  • Pete's mic really sucked!

Awesome song and band at all...

  • @shOwbiz

you got me wrong: i was not referring to this performance in the video but to pete's on a concert i saw which was about two years ago.

don't worry i can pretty much see how emotional that performance is.

  • 7 in mornin

    7 gram later

    workin at 9

this tune requires 1 more line

    im guna regret it but...................

    FUCK IT

    wot wud pete do xxxxxxxx

  • Does anyone know what guitar Carl is playing?

  • @GameCrackerz Looks like a Les Paul Junior to me.

  • @RockManX9Productions

Thanks for the reply, I think it's a Les Paul Melody Maker

  • I LOVE THE PETE AND CARL'S ACCENT....

  • Gonna let Jonathan Ross slip with I Can't Stand You Now due to his understanding of Pete. ;)

  • pete and carl at the height of their beauty.... so much man love on one stage

  • @Balto92 if you check the dates, this was just days after the Brixton Academy gig in which pete stormed off stage, cut his chest and returned after 3 songs. he later said it was because carl gave him a funny look during "cant stand me now".

This one is such a heartfelt performance. I just wish they were back for good, they belong together no matter what.

  • 1:03 looks like they're having an argument, they even stop playing, Carl's listening really carefully, they're angry with one each other, but they're in love too. This video is amazing.

  • I don't think any band will ever beat the chemistery between Pete and Carl...

  • Nice! But Pete's microphone sux

  • they really did give that performance their absolute al, instrumentally...it was almost as if they knew..it would be their last before they disbanded!

  • the best version ever played!!

  • Comment removed

  • does Jonathan Ross look like a 50-something Carl Carl Barât to anyone else?

  • @strummerboyleo

Only now that you mention it :)

  • Looks to pete fucks on drugs while he says "I cant take you anywhere" LOL

  • This is honestly the most intimate song I've ever heard. The fact that they were able to bare their souls like that to the world is truly remarkable and makes for one the best songs I've ever heard...

  • Pete looks like Helena Boham Carter in Fight Club.

  • they're kinda sloppy

  • @Stillwater900 True but that's what I love about 'em...

  • @nikolaiklimanski I think he's better on his own, solo. Theres a video of him playing this song accoustic at Leeds in his hat and suit, thats a really great performance

  • anyone willing, plz give ma cover of this quality track a quick critique :] 'tis in the response to this ^^^

    thaank u

    x

  • hahah de pelicula...

  • officially the greatest band ever, wish they were still together...

  • hahahah "cant stand YOU now"

  • Awesome.

  • @Thebartenderandthetheif

Bassist a "dork"? Firstly: who the fuck uses the word dork? Unless you watch too much neighbours! Rack off, bouncer! You dirty mongrel!

Secondly: What do you want from a bassist? Mani? Flea? Paul Simonen? Or someone with less of an ego! Pioty has no place in rock and roll for you? All singing all dancing performing monkeys are we?

  • i swear ross just said cant stand you now? and then he goes and says my favorite the libertines. hahaha these hosts don't know shit

  • this take is the best of CSMN i think.

    too cool, words cant say.

  • anyone else has noticed that Carl and Pete give a high five with there guitars at the beginning ? :D

  • Turn up the bass!!

  • breaks my heart

  • they are singing that at each other ((((((can't stand me now)))))))

  • That was special !

  • e bassist is a fucking dork, look how he just stands there lol a shit bass to!!

  • @Bartenderandthethief

    Eh, fuck you man.

The Bassist keeps it together, suppose fuckin' John Paul Jones is a dork because he kept the sound together. The entirety of the Beatles stood around, but I don't see any hate going their way.

  • who the fuck decided it was a good idea to spread a rumor that pete's getting done for murder?

    idiots

  • Great. Fucking. Band. Ever.

  • pete's stare from 1:05 - 1:09 just shows how meaningful this song is

  • This is just the first performance now!

  • as a guy in university i can safely say that every guy would want to be in their shoes... playing in a fuckin band like the libertines would be the best job in the world, fuck university, lectures, books. i don't even want to be here, no chance for a job out of school anyways. drop out n start a fuckin rock band

  • @ButterfieldRadio just be aware that Doherty has read a little bunch of books before writing lyrics such as those. Anyway, rock n rolls not a job, it's a life.

  • @ButterfieldRadio Best comment I've ever seen on youtube. I'm doing that very thing

  • @ButterfieldRadio couldn't agree me as peter said " throw yourself into eternity and dont look back"

  • @ButterfieldRadio "drop out and start a fucking rock band." I just did. Good advice.

  • @youhavegeniusshins me too *high five*

  • @adsyoffinch *high five reciprocated*

  • @ButterfieldRadio 14 people started university instead of a rock band :/

  • @ButterfieldRadio Well fucking said!

  • @ButterfieldRadio

That's the fucking dream man. just have a fucking good time playing music. And get paid for it.

  • @ButterfieldRadio lmaooooo i'll marry u

  • @ButterfieldRadio amen brother

  • if this song wasn't so great i might have been totally distracted by that hair

  • They are singing so far away from each other :c

Thank god things have got better <3

  • Is this Pete playing on Carl's guitar and Carl with Pete's ? I've seen this clip a thousand times and never noticed it before.

  • @Unkatietitled yeah think so

  • saw the both performing alone on stage and i have to say carl way better. dont get me wrong, i quite love them both and all the music they made but pete's peformance was just poor.dont know what kind of drugs he took before.. but that was shit

  • @rockchick18495

Pete's performance had much more heart, he was obviously emotional. This was a really bad time for them and Pete was obviously still sad when he performed Can't stand me now. It's a pity you can't see that.

  • I think this was a very hard song for both of them to play at the time.. Tension was high.. compare this performance to the one they did at Reading this year, what a difference!

  • Pete and Carl ♥

  • so good.

  • it's so sad this song.... if you know the story behind it....

    tears in my eyes... dude....

  • @chanchoenroca PATHETIC

  • when was this filmed

  • Every time i watch this i have to watch the vid at reading straight after. Just to know that now everythings okay and they love each other again.

  • @deadmandanny88 Hi - You are too funny... I do the same thing! I saw an interview w/Carl someone posted on facebook yesterday - it was really good. But the look that flashes thru his eyes - just shows how deep their connection is and always will be. I tried to post the link here for you, but it won't let me. Try typing these words in your search block and it should come up. muziek carl barat 2010

  • Haha did they like their guitars together at the start? :L

  • @steveraff01 you bet your sweet ass they did

  • fucking tune!!

  • 3 weeks ago @veplaini Chasing notes mate its called creativity and thats why this videos got 211,556 views and you've only got 5533 and before you correct me and tell me you've got 5534... i copied and pasted it and oh yes i am a guitarist and my mates think i'm the bomb lol.

  • what a bomb!

  • おじさん声大きい

  • Sometimes Pete sings out of tune, but I still love him.

  • this video is missing that libertine touch... aka out of tune guitars, screaming vocals, pete falling over...

  • haha lock up your daughters..

  • i think jonathan ross Looks like if he were carlos dad..jajajaj

  • only God knows how much i love them ♥ ♥ ♥

  • Ahh this makes me want to cry.. :/ Was so good to see them on stage again at Leeds on Friday, it's just a pity the sound was so fucked for it..

  • what's the problem with that guitarist? Chasing notes to see which ones fit? Call this musicianship? How awful!

  • @veplaini Well this is very raw music so you can expect that kind of sound, i think its a bit of a love/hate thing

  • @veplaini haha. funny comment but I don't agree at all

  • amazing!

  • reading reading reading reading <3

  • @04jobl READING READING READING !!!!!

  • @04jobl leeds leeds leeds

  • most literal song written since 'There is a light that never goes out'

  • cant wait for leeds fest only like 2 and a half weeks :)

  • pete in the seven ages of rock documentary said that when they were playing this it was like they were stabbing each other again and again... what they didn't realized was that they were stabbing the hearts of the fans

  • its times like these that i hate living in australia, ill never get to see the libertines live :(

  • the libertines are getting back together for 4 shows! so excited, i wish i could be there. it might never happen again. i wish i could go... :(

  • @WatchesVideosOnUtube 3 show, been and gone. i was privelaged to be at the reading set, and catch gary powells drumstick

  • i remember seing this on tv when i was about 12 fucking amazing ive not been the same since

  • brilliant. :)

  • Comment removed

  • The stories behind them, knowing they ended up splitting up, the emotions clearly visible on all of their faces... somehow all added up to such GREAT MUSIC! I so wish they could be comfy/trust eachother, erase the crap that happened when they were younger and just have a ball - have it ALL - be the best band there is - for our benefit and theirs. Here's wishing for the Libertines to reunite and relax and enjoy it! La la la!!!

  • such an inspirational band.

  • when carl and pete, were still in love :)

  • @clauditaluna more like: "when carl and pete were singing about the decay of their intense relationship, without (wanting to) realising it at the time" )'=

  • I LOVE THESE LADS!!!!

  • typical bbc. instead of showing both songs they choose to cut it off. probably had a repeat of some crap film they had to show. idiots!

  • It's a bit off track but...

did jonathan ross just call Busted Thras Metal?

  • Pete is damn near tears when he sings "I'm still in love with you"

This songs pretty much sums up the whole sad story between Carl and Pete, such a damn shame!!! But hey, great music.

  • are they back together for good or just for a few festivals?

  • @MMuunncchhiieess just for reading and leeds, but we are awaiting a decision on a full reform

  • what year is this from?

  • LEEEEEDS!!

  • Libertines i want you togther what broke you up i can fix it

  • what's the name for the song after can't stand me now?

  • @danielsabiondomaster its don't look back into the sun

  • @danielsabiondomaster Don't look back into the sun

  • any idea what bass john is playing here?

  • wish we could hear the full version of dlbits.

  • fantastico!

  • this is probably one of my favorite performances caught of tape.

you can see the tension between these two men, but instead of fighting over it

they put it into song form, fucking brilliant.

  • I hope they reform!

  • Have you ever seen so much passion in the first few lines of a song like this, the way pete was looking direct at carl when he said it......

  • @craigweir88 That passion you speak of is what most music misses:An actual meaning.Songs nowadays are just repetitive crap that tells a story that someone made up! This song is about real happenings and emotions, none of the mainstream crap should ever even be compared to this.

  • many emotions in this performance, never seen anything like it.

i have a hard time understanding what they meant by "you tried to pull the wool". what does that mean exactly? english is not my first language, so i googled it but found nothing.

  • @bokstavatillz I'm probably wrong but i thought it meant that lets say their relationship was a tapestry, pulling the wool would unwind and destroy it

  • @jacobplaisance iIt actually refers to an expression called pulling the wool over someone's eyes; to fool them or to conceal something.

  • I think this is the best sound my ears could ever hear!

  • how they could perform this together hating each other is amazing. Shame they split , i heard they may be re-forming please, please let this be true. One of the most under rated bands ever, just cos of Pete's bad habits. no band has ever truly loved their fans like The Libertines.

  • check out the song on my page

  • SHITTIING FANTASTIC.. THEESE

  • :'( watch my acoustic version

  • mother fucken ajjajaajajaj.....

  • i cannot wait to see them at reading!!!

  • @0Marl gahhhh jealous i live in australia theres no chance theyll come here :(

  • the libertines are amazin! im not really into indie rock but the libertines is an exception, their lyrics are wayyyy superior and genius to any band out today, its a shame that some people disregard the libertines because of the indie lifestyle they lead rather than listen to art of their lyrics. Carl and Pete are amazing song writers and I personally think they're veryyy underated. Most people today listen to any old rubbish as long as it has a beat.

  • Quite a hard tension between Peter and Carl. Watch Peter when he sings "you shut me up and blamed it on the brown" - he looks so deeply disappointed. Sad.

  • @Zoopersaz

pete actually sang y'ou cut me out and tried to blame it on the brown"

directed at carl meaning, he cut him out of earnings and the band and blamed it on the smack.. cause pete was always smacked up... and carl and the rest of the band were falling out with pete and kicked him out the band...

and pete sung that line cause in his eyes its his band.. and he should never of been kicked out.. carl just wanted all the limelight.. but carls nothing without pete, petes the star...

  • @quickmantan yaaaer, right mate - he really sings "cut me out" good interpretation of you, I guess. It's a weird bromance between those two guys, hard to understand.

  • @Zoopersaz

yer haha proper bromance,, shame petes gone waaaaayyy over the top now tho.. hes nothing but a dirty junky now, hate saying it but hes getting done for murder and doing some proper fucked up shit... shame cause he is such a gifted arsehole.

  • @quickmantan I don't think he's just a "dirty junky now",… Yes, he's taking drugs, and yes this isn't good but, man! It's THIS hard to get off. And he's trying. In addition I think he stayed on the floor, he's not one of these mediafools. He does whatever he wants to do and does what he likes, that's good! Even if everyone says his talent is wasted, he's living his life, not the life you or anybody else has chosen for him.

  • @Zoopersaz

i know what your saying, but he comes from a middle class family and before he was famous he was a nice lad. and the fame got to him,, fame gets to people and messes them up.. i mean id rather see pete sober making good music cause thats what his role is, a musician, but now he is junky first musician 2nd..

he was off the drugs for a while and looked really good.. pete is that bad a few months back he was going to any old pub and doing acoustic sets for whatever theyd give him.

  • @Zoopersaz what i mean is, its upto him what he does but when it stops you from making music then youve gone too far.. loads of ppl would wish they had his gift and he has wasted it and become a junkie instead of a musician that took drugs.. if ya get me..

loads of rockstars take drugs but you dont seem them mess their whole life up, and get involved in murders and stuff.. thats just gone too far. i just wish he sort himself out.

  • @quickmantan mhm possibly you're right, but I just can agree with you until a degree. Not everything you say is right, it isn't proved, that he was involved in this murderstuff, is it?

I guess it would be better for his fans and him, if he'd stop taking drugs. But I just wish him all the best I am able, because he's talented and I guess he has a good soul!

  • @quickmantan done for murder? where ther fuck have I been? What's supposed to've happened?

  • @crossybhoy

some lad called mark someone who is an actor turned up at a flat, pete doherty and his minder where getting high in.. and he asked pete to attend a play that he was in where he played the lead character in which a famous poet dies by acidentally falling to his death from a balcony..but pete dohertys minder and pete were all bullying him and setting fire to his hair and his hat, beat him up and threw him off a balcony.. and he landed on his head and died, its on CCTV

  • @quickmantan Absolute rubbish. The guy who fell off the balcony was the one hosting the party.

  • @quickmantan What the fuck is even wrong with you?

Yeah the guy died, but the only CCTV footage of Pete and anyone else is of them running down the street.

They did not do all that shit to hi-no hair on fire, no beating up, no throwing off. You absoloute twat of twats. They'd all be locked up now if that was true-and they're not. Why? Because he fell because he was off his head and they all ran off after they called an ambulance because they'd taken drugs and they didn't want to get arrested.

  • @RwoarMeansLoveYou

what the hell is wrong with you more like DENILE.. one of the admitted it.. do you sit at home making stories up in your head, pete doherty is a bellend

  • @quickmantan

No seriously how the hell do you think that is true/calling him a bellend is a justified argument?

Clearly it's not true or they'd all be in prison right now-you're the one who makes up stories

  • @RwoarMeansLoveYou

they woulnt be in prison cause their not. pete didnt kill him first hand but he was involvd, it was his minder that threw him over the balcony cause he admitted it... but it was petes being a bellend that got him killed.

  • Christ, Pete's guitar playing is scrappy as hell in this. Brilliant nevertheless.

  • Magique! <3

  • just for this i would like to be jonathan ross

  • que puta mare en vivo lo mejor!!!1

  • Not the best performance, but they are the best band since oasis

  • yeh rite wossy ur so impressed u cant even get the title of the song right

  • soooo good

  • I love the libertines! Pete and carl are great, don't care what anyone else says!!

  • Seeing how upset both Pete and Carl are here makes me a bit depressed lol.

  • fucking top class!!! get back together boys!

  • like pete's haircut :D

  • ahah carl looks all sorta angry and tired he barely gives a look to peter. peter looks out of it ,ashamed maybe? and quite empty lookin

  • you mean pete looks stoned

  • well thats the point of the song, its them having an argument

  • Best quality right here! Cheers!

  • @Fenvox79

im sorry did you say pete look dissapointed you fucking hispter trash? how about carl loooking like shit after playing all the gigs pete signed up for and never bothered doing. how about all the fans who paid money to watch them and pete fucked them off just like he done recently with what ever shit band he has now.
