Do any of you know the real story of the "Burning Man" ? And from what I can see why not make it a "Mad Max' or "water World" fest. I think that this idea is a great release from the hectic world all around us, if you can get to one of these parties !!
burning man my fucking ass....thats like florescent vs natural light.....ive never been to burning man....i would never "go" anywhere .....to find what can be produced as a way of life..every fucking day..every fucking second of the "real".... of "real" life...in the punk days the word "poser" was thrown about....
Burning Man started as a party on the beach of San Francisco where a dude burned a scare crow sculpture of his ex girlfriend, and he described it as a ritual to free himself from possessions, both material & emotional. Judging by this video, Burning Man is now a slick orgy of ego, where the only thing that's been let go is any actual talent. It's a ridiculous superficial parade of self absorption & delusional theater. A grand expression of our world's ridiculous hubris. And SO many white people.
@KingKook What do you expect? Unfortunatley for them, white people in this country don't have a culture. The "culture" is that of materialism social class standing. I think this is a way for those people to try and discover something that they don't see in their "real world". Unfortunaley for them, they are missing the point completley by buying into the whole burning man theme instead of seeking true culture in the real world, true spirituality, and true freedom of expression
@egis27 Yeah, exactly what I was trying to say. You phrased it beautifully, as sad as the thought is. When I was there I felt like I was at Hippy Disney World - a forced alternative culture that is more fantasy and delusion than an actual viable direction. It was fun and wild and intense, but so were Dead shows. I wouldn't call either one a reasonable worthwhile workable life style, but they were great moments. That's what I'm saying. It's a nice diversion. Not inspirational, but weird fun.
@KingKook you are soo right...i used to want to go to burning man ... but footage from there just creeps me out ... for a place of peace and love it seems so cold O.o so self-absorbed.
this is also true for many raves...i've been to some that are pretty...well...cold and forced...a gathering of emotionally needy people trying to feed of each other's attention but failing most of the time because almost everyone else is preoccupied with themselves...creepy - that's the best description i can give
let's be children all over again! i mean not really. childhood was over rated and we were powerless for the most part. but lets pretend we are children on break! weeeee!
Wow, Jordan 8899 ... you do not represent or speak for religious people. I am very much a Christian and see nothing aethiestic about BM. In fact. last time I saw Jesus walk by and got to speak to God on the phone! And .... really don't think "animals" could create the techno inventions on this video. Sure am glad MY God approves of BM!!
@jordana8899. that really sucks, because most of us atheists are very nice people. And many of us are responsible for the many medical and technological advances that you enjoy. :)
@legend101zelda, not in our contemporary society there isn't. Citing scientists from centuries ago doesn't really have much bearing on what needs to be considered today. If you look at the statistics it's quite clear there is an overwhelming atheist/agnostic majority in the scientific community. I am getting ready to read a book from Francis Collins (who does believe in a Christian god), about mixing faith and science and how it works. This is how open-minded I try to remain on the subject.
@legend101zelda, which is something I can't get my own mother (a devout Mormon) to look into. It seems that the majority of theists that I personally have encountered are actually afraid of seeking knowledge that doesn't coincide with their beliefs. Where the whole method of science is to stretch your beliefs and possibly even shatter them in the search for truth. Something you don't see much in heavily religious behavior.
@itchykami Tax Refund = perfect timing to get a ticket. Then find a bunch of friends to ride with or fly out to meet and you're good to go. A years worth of planning can make it happen for anybody =)
