As for the northern vote, it was to indorse a unionist veto or not. There was no vote asking people did they want to remain within the union or not, which was what the whole war was/is about. great Song. My Grandmother was from Donegal and I was brought up with the rebel songs which I always loved. Home rule was passed for Ireland in 1914 and it was understood it would happen at the end of the war. Most Irish wanted this. The 1916 uprising was not widely supported. It was vicious martial law afterwards that changed the mind and mood of Ireland. Most people wanted a peaceful transition it was extremism and brutality that changed that....as always.

The British didn't rule the world for very long actually and they did get invaded by France, sort of, Stormin Norman invaded and they didn't force them to speak French because they thought they were backwater douche bags who didn't deserve french, and they took their land and shoved them on a serf plantation and made them slaves. not to mention the wonderful Danegeld when the Danes forced the Anglo-saxons to pay them ransom or get smashed. Actually England was invaded by the Saxons (from Saxony) and the Normans (from Normandy), both regions of France.
